Do you ***** see that? It's called the sports section. Did you know that he posted this in the sports section?
Good, now shut up. - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"I'm sure there's a section for all your freaks to circle jerk your brain cells out.
Just leave it off the front page."
Learn how digg works before you talk. Its not on the technology front page; you're viewing the "VIEW ALL" front page. View All does just that, it views *everything*. - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9To all of you n3wbs who don't like sports:
Please set your preferences to ignore any sports stories. Then, even if they make the front page, you won't see them. If you are too ignorant or lazy to do that, please STFD and STFU. - wjadams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah...a 3 year sentence to...the Arizona Cardinals! dun dun dun!!!!
- sinurgy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8You know most of us have left the whole "jocks vs. nerds" thing in high school where that silly crap belongs. Grow up and let it go ted, just let it go!
- sinurgy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@wjadams
Have you no soul? How could you wish such a thing on anyone!!!! - jpop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think his main problem was the big fight on national television earlier in the year. If he had just had the season he had, he might have survived it. But the big big black eye he got from that fight finished him IMHO. It's probably not really fair, but if he'd have a winning season, he'd probably have gotten off with it. A mediocre to losing season and you can't weather that much bad PR.
- NewChar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Who's the next coach of the University of Miami Thugs?
- whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He's a mindless troll. Don't know why I didn't block him yet. Done. :P
- commiecat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9I suppose that the $3M buyout isn't enough thanks?
And why "***** Miami"? You just another person that hates UM because they've been the most dominant program in the NCAA over the past 25 years? Do you hate how many all-pro NFL players have come from Miami? Get over it. Make your case for or against Coker and leave it at that.
I stood by Coker up until the GT game - not knowing that he needed an onside kick just killed me. We threw more deep balls against BC than we did the rest of the entire season - and if Coker had made calls like that all year and had been as animated as he was that night he might have a stronger argument.
The talent is there. We probably outplayed our opponents in all of our losses with the exception of Louisville (and we were a goalline fumble away from being up 14-0 in that one). The UM receivers were horrendous all year and they were all touted recruits - at some point coaching plays a role in keeping players focused.
Coker inherited a great team and played for two titles right out of the gate. Since Davis' players have left and Coker's players have came in our offense has sputtered and our record has declined. I appreciate the job he's done but I think it's time for both parties to move on.
The only good thing about this year is that FSU sucks just as bad as we do (I guess a bit less since they beat us...). I'm hoping they make strong offers to Schiano and Spurrier. As long as we don't get Barry Alvarez or Ron Zook I'll be content. :) - chunlin66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The "U" President Donna Shalala:
"We believe and have demonstrated at Miami that it is possible to have the finest program, play by the rules, and have high graduation rates."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No coach named "Coker" should be coaching at Miami.
- BigManOnCampus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Don't worry about Miami, their players are soldiers, defending their school on the battlefield. They'll continue to try to harm their opposition on the field, so they'll be fine, they'll be just what they intended to be.
Imagine, a bunch of humanities majors starting a fight during an organized sporting event and then acting like it's their right to defend their school in battle. Truth is stranger than fiction.
DIV 1 football is a joke. Players are recruited to be dumb thugs to please lots of rich alumni in what Miami has turned into gladiatorial contests. If such a player gets lucky enough to get scouted by the NFL, then agents knock on his door and make him very afraid of the silly ***** major he chose just for paperworks-sake. They tell him all sorts of horror stories of him becoming a lowly high-school football coach and earning - meshmdz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Corker was the coach of a bunch of thugs. The Miani Canes are a sorry group of players. They have had problems staying out of trouble for years, hell one of their playerswas killed the other day as a result of drugs, and foulplay. Glad this guy is gone but then again, I hate Miami so i dont care
- Vectorvega, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you honestly think that going 6-6 is an "average" season for a powerhouse program you have no clue about college football. This isn't the NFL where you can lose any week. In college football there are games that would be next to impossible for a team to lose (ie Miami vs Florida A&M, Miami vs Florida International).
Frankly, given the talent discrepancy, neither Houston nor Duke should have had a realistic chance to beat Miami, yet Houston did and Duke (0-12) nearly did. Coker took over a program that Butch Davis had built back up despite sanctions. Coker was also surrounded by great assistants (which any head coach needs to be successful)...many of which left Miami (ex: Kehoe).
When Coker took over the Miami program they looked like USC does today. They had become a power without top recruiting classes yet were sending more players to the NFL than any other team and kids all over the nation wanted to play for Miami. Now look at Miami. It's a joke.
I'm no fan of Miami, but they are making the right choice. Coker is a nice coordinator and a very average head coach. Given the resources at Miami, at the very least they should always be in contention for an ACC Championship, and should always be in the top 15, even in down years. - zymosis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I didn't know people were still fans of those over ranked Florida schools, but I guess so.
And I have been trying to figure out all year if Miami is more worried about playing football, or their gang? - zoombusa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4http://www.zdot.com/ThugU/
enough said! - Tralfaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This guy has nothing but thugs on his team! He should be fired for his recruiting...and these thugs aren't even good athlete thugs, they're just thugs.
He's what's wrong with sports! - solodude59, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol. when i saw this digg story headline on my firefox live book mark it said 'Coker fired by Miami'. HA! At first I thought it was a city worker for Miami that was fired for doing cocaine. Wow.
- softwizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They have not been the same since they lost to Ohio State in 2003 National Championship... good thing THAT was a fluke (not!)
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I hope the next coach falls flat on his face. Coker deserves better than to be let go after having an average season. You can't expect a team to be in the top 10 every year without at least one of these occasionally.
- Spiffjiggins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I disagree with you devilshark. He had control over the team. They loved him. But the problem was they didn't fear him. In his time there, Miami had but two occasions involving police. Scholarship players that is. Compare that with Ohio st, Tenn, Texas, and Nebraska. If he had no control there would be the same crap we went through in the 80's. But that's not the case. He also had enough control to have a graduation rate of 68% last season with the rest of the school at 71% I'd say that's damn good. Compare that with the SEC...
- Spiffjiggins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I definitely am glad that they finally axed Coker. The decline in offensive production was never more apparent than last nights game when they posted on ESPN the Canes' offensive ranks. From 6th to 80th in his short time here. Unbelievable.
And commiecast, I agree with you. He would still have his job had he called more games like last night.
Ever notice until that game, the offense looked surprisingly like last years offense? - kidford, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Well, all I can say is I hope Miami gets what they deserve - a horrible coach who has absolutely no interest in cleaning the program up. With any luck, they'll turn into the Colorado Buffaloes of old.
- bpartridge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1How does Miami deserve that? I'm curious about your logic in deducing that conclusion...
- devilshark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1No surprise. The guy had little-to-no control over his kids. Had he not inherited the team that he did, he would have been gone before the year started. Yes, Miami is a hotbed of sports and recruiting, and yes, the program has a long, CLEAN history. However, Coker did more harm that his winning percentage allows.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8***** Miami. You think they could have at least thanked him.
- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3What the hell? Have you guys never listened to Will Smith? You know, he is a rapper as well as an actor...
- pamon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0should've been fired after this years performance... much better athlete's on that team and deserved better coaching... he'll land an NFL job by next year....
- PatrickFisher, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Fired by the city where the heat is on...
Just sittin' on the beach till the break of dawn...
Say goodbye to Miami...
