- ffingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Being from Chicago, and having witnessed both run-backs....I have to say, it's fun being a Bears fan sometimes.
For those who didn't see it, Hester's pause was absolutely classic. You can actually see guys starting to walk. A few of the Giants actually started making their way off the field. Kudos to Hester for the run-back, but kudos to the coaches for sticking him on the back of the endzone and and giving him the green light to run it out!!!
GO BEARS!!!!!! - jasnmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Madden said after Hester acted like he wasn't going to run and then took off for the TD: "I'd hate to play him in poker".
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14After I saw the video, I wanted to know more about this Hester kid and clicked on one of the YouTube links to the side:

This guy was one helluva return guy for the 'Canes. - wordsthatendini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I often wonder what John Madden would sound like sober.
- Chicagoland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12The bears are making me very happy this year!
GO BEARS! - Pluckie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11there were some solid blocks in that play...
hillenmeyer (#92) leveled a few guys - theotherme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10DA BEARS!
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Of course he knew he could do that...
Anyone with cursory knowledge of the rules would. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah, kinda like the headline says. Weird, huh.
- Pluckie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the video link is posted above... feel free to call out exactly when these "holds and illegal blocks" happened.
or, if you realize you don't know what you're talking about, feel free not to... - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+7HA... the "green light to run it out..." You obviously weren't watching the same game I was. The Bears coach was SCREAMING for Hester to down the ball, and didn't start cheering until he reached the 40 yard line or so.
"NO NO STOP $@#$..... GO GO GO GO!!!!!!" - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -2/+8It's not that hard to block a bunch of linemen. These guys were on the field for one purpose: Prevent a blocked kick. You don't exactly have coverage guys in a field goal formation.

Without the music & with commentary - connizzle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Super Bowl bound baby, i don't care what anyone else says, i've been a dedicated bears fan all my life and every year i have faith in them, and even when grossman sucks it up i still have faith, like the cardinals game, i still had faith in them and look what happened....Super Bowl Shuffle 2006 here we come!
- weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+4Done.
- ffingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't watch football then sir. No sport is perfect, but to take away from what both Vasher has done and what Hester just did because you "assume" there was a holding or a violation just because it was a great play it just downright silly and disrespectful. Go do something else and let the lovers of sports be the judge of what is truly amazing and what is not!
- zirtbow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Was that the kicker that 92 laid out? I saw that thinking from the Friday movie "YOU GOT KNOCKED THE F* OUT!"
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Basically the only thing he did was a very gutsy fake-out. Everything else was done by his blockers, who did a great job.
- ffingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It wasn't 108 yards. Hester and Vasher hold the record with 108 alone. It was 107 yards.
http://www.nfl.com/history/randf/records/indiv/misc - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -2/+5Whoever dugg me down either has something against me or has zero knowledge of football.
- Future2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As Madden said, "That's what coaches call a No No Go Go."
- shirtninjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I saw the video, I saw those nice blocks by 92! I hardly know anyone on the Bears, (except Grossman, Berrian, Muhammed, T. Jones and Urlacher) but I was like, "Wow, nice job 92!"
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great video. Horrible song.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy ***** I didn't notice that until now. It was like a wall of Chicago Bears crushing people. Hester will go down in the books but without a doubt they deserve some major credit.
- dracostimpy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5According to NBC5-Chicago, it was 108.4 yards. Flagged as inaccurate.
- sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did you read the description? His teammate did the exact same thing the year before. Later he goes on to say ~ "That was the only play I remember about the Bears from last year".
Go Bears! Too bad they lost to the Dolphins. - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That was a great bluff.
I love my Chicago Bears! - igjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Having faith gets you nowhere in football fandom... I've been a dedicated Vikings fan all my life and faith is all I have every season. Don't count your wins before they are recorded.
- weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+2The Giants will play the Bears again for the NFC championship, and you can bet you won't be falling back on a horrendous coaching error resulting in a botched field goal for a touchdown. The Giants owned the bears until about 1:30 left in the second quarter... but the field goal run back for a TD was a killer.. A great game though, the flex scheduling is definitely a great addition to Sunday night.
- weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -0/+1This comment is a day late and therefore will never be read, but I'd like to respond anyway. My only "point" was that I was disappointed the second half played out the way it did, because I would have loved to see both teams grind it out to the very end - a true test of wills.
As to your point that the long 3rd down run at the end of the first half was the turning point... I don't disagree. In fact, I specifically said the domination ended with 1:30 left in the first half, so I basically already said that. It was a great run by Jones to pick up the first given the situation, and Coughlin's fault for playing such soft Defense. I don't believe the Bears were "dominant" at that point, though. I think the playing field was leveled. The botched field goal put the Giants up against the wall... and anyone who knows the Bears knows... if you're up against the wall with them, you're going to lose. - kinchknifeblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It also helps that he is one of the fastest players in the NFL.
- Brightside, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13rd time I've seen this type of play happen.
The past two times with the Bears. First time I was actually there in 2002, when the Ravens beat the Broncos on Monday Night
From The Baltimore Sun:
"Fielding a missed field-goal attempt 8 yards deep in the end zone, McAlister slowed up near the goal line but decided not to take a knee. Breaking free to the outside after a crushing hit by Lewis on the Broncos' Keith Burns at the 5, McAlister went 108 yards untouched and starting high-stepping for the final 30 yards as Billick followed him down the sideline with his hands raised." - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's exactly the kind of blocking our Special Teams on the Colts could never dream of doing. >_>;
- TheEgghead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@sulthernao
Right.. because we all know that it has to be a crappy season when the Bears go through the whole season with only one loss to Miami.. ;)
Indy may end up with a perfect regular season, but it won't fill the space on their finger. - szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cannot believe that Jay Feely is still employed. How many game winning field goals did he miss last year? And I'm talking < 45 yarders too. And now this? He couldn't even clear the endzone on a 52 yard kick? He is absolutely terrible and it is costing the giants games. And I know there are other mistakes in all of the games making it not entirely his fault, but at the same time he only has one straightforward job. There are plenty of kickers in the league who don't miss. The giants need one.
- SvnX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They lost to Miami? Whatever! That is of no concern to me at all. All I have to say is....
They ALSO LOST TO MIAMI in 85!!! Hmmm....history seems to be repeating itself...no?
Ok...one more thing (that makes 2)...Grossman is about as good as the Punky QB of 85...and he wasn't 'All That'...but had a great cast of characters...just like this 06 team does. - cwl157, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1last year the bears did this also and that was also a long field goal that fell short. It really is a genius idea to put a man deep on long field goals like a punt return in case the ball falls short because if you think about it the kicking team has the field goal unit on the field so they are all bigger to protect for the field goal. So the fastest player would be maybe a tight end right. That means all you gotta do is get a couple blocks maybe make 1 man miss and your gone becuase your so much faster then everyone else.
- Brightside, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Appears everyone originally reported it as 108. But you're right its 107.
- Sparticuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i love how he sat in the endzone for like 5 seconds
- LordHalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is cool to be from Chicago. WE"RE happy people. Vasher's run is more impressive. The bluff from Hester is awesome.
- standalonematt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your right - I didn't see the video - I was referring to the play last year when everyone got all excited for a 108 yard return.
I may have ranted a bit, but I guess I committed the ultimate sin claiming that pro-sports and records might not be worth anything - with so many varying factors.
I also don't understand myopic fanaticism - but I doubt either of you could explain it - just call me a loser who doesn't "understand sports". True nothing wrong with people who enjoy it - but people still have the right to comment on it and ask those questions.
and I just think the NFL is more theater and less football - falling closer to what the WWE did with the sport of wrestling - which does sadden me. - NumberFour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I won't lie, Vasher's run was much more impressive then Hesters. While Hester kindof just ran up the sideland, Vasher actully had to throw some guys, he really fought for those first 40 yards
- NumberFour, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@crweaks
and the bears owned the giants for the rest of the game. Whats your point?
and I dont think the field goal for the TD was the turning point, it was the final drive of the second half, Where Jones got that 22 yard run for the 1st. - OrcaCSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's Vasher's run from one year ago today:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2607626819874853693&q=vasher
Unfortunately, that doesn't have the game audio. He was mic'd that day, so there's a tape somewhere with the sounds of him running all that way. The winds were ridiculous. Great calls by the coaching staff, both then and last night, to have the players fall back into position to catch those misses. - Msmith7795, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aside from those two huge blocks down field, the best part of the play had to be Hester's ballin celebration.
- krecker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
Check out his run against Duke - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Da Bears!
Btw it was badass the expression on Manning's face - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -1/+1I'd love to play tom coughlin... I'm in awe of the bad coaching in that game.
