- doobiebrother, on 01/11/2009, -2/+24Good to see Kurt Warner can still get it done in his 57th season in the league
- hawksfan03, on 01/11/2009, -0/+22SouljaBoySTFU I love your spirit. But your heart will be broken today when the Eagles beat the Giants.
- tmacfan123, on 01/11/2009, -7/+26this is a statement game from the cardinals for all those people who CONTINUOUSLY said that they just got lucky in the first game and for all those people who said that couldn't play on the east coast...cardinals are officially a legit contender
- MetalHead73, on 01/11/2009, -0/+15This 13-11 score isn't in your favor right now...
I'll be coming back when the Eagles win.
EDIT:
Oh hey, look at that:
20-11 - Dainjah, on 01/11/2009, -1/+16Delhomme was the Cardinal's MVP. I think he threw for more yards to the Cards than his own team.
- homescrubb, on 01/11/2009, -0/+14dugg, as a disgusted panthers fan, for the truth.
- fivenodes, on 01/11/2009, -0/+13Decimate: kill one in every ten, as of mutineers in Roman armies
Not quite... But the Cardinals did crush them Panthers. - Tw3ek, on 01/11/2009, -0/+9Yea, too bad the Eagles will end any hopes of another Giants playoff run.
- eeemart, on 01/11/2009, -1/+10i was planning on spending the time while the game was on doing things like cleaning around the house and doing my laundry. but, since the cardinals were victorious throughout the game and i couldn't take my eyes off the television, now i gotta do all that tomorrow. thanks a lot, cardinals, i was planning for you to disappoint me and you have to go and actually win a big game!!
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/11/2009, -1/+10As someone who watched it on TV and prob had a better read on the game, the cards defense had the panthers number the whole time. They knew exactly how to read Delhomme and thats why they got so many INTs.
- earthtoandy, on 01/11/2009, -1/+8I'm a huge Cards fan. I have been since they moved here in '88 and I was 6. And let me assure all of you us Cards fans are not getting an ego. We expect it to end at every second.
That being said no one is playing better than the Cards right now. This is getting interesting!
And enough Delhomme bashing. He was bad but clearly more due to the Cards D than his failure. They were jumping routes and controlling the run.
GO CARDS! I love how they have rubbed all the bashing all year in everyones face! - boydrew, on 01/11/2009, -0/+7Yeah...you might wanta concentrate on a game that happens to be on right now..
- Donnshin, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6Lol, somebody is bitter.
- Lotan, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6Someone held up a sign in the game that said, "Cats eat birds" A more accurate sign would read, "Cards pound pussies"
- hawksfan03, on 01/11/2009, -1/+7i still can't believe just over a year ago flacco was at delaware and he was playing my alma mater the university of northern iowa in the playoffs. In warmups my friends and I were asking who this guy was because he was huge, 6'4 and had a rocket arm. He tore our secondary apart. Extremely humble guy as well.
- earthtoandy, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6Give them full credit then! They were jumping routes left and right, took away their running game which defined them all year and controlled the game entirely.
Delhomme has a 95 QB rating for his career in the playoffs and is 5-2.
The Cardinals won the game, Delhomme and the Panthers didn't lose it. The turnovers, for the most part, were created. 7 interceptions in 2 games for the Cardinals! - Bub978, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6Uh oh, turnover. Hope you didn't place any bets on them beating the Cardinals.
- MogusMaximus, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6The five day forecast calls for continued temperatures well below freezing across the entirety of the Hell region...
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6worst quarterback performance ever.
- earthtoandy, on 01/11/2009, -0/+6Cardinals are playing better than anyone.
Cardinals are great at home.
We may have something special happen next week. Still not holding my breath but it certainly is falling into place as perfectly as possible. - noots, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5give him a break dude, it's been quite a while.
let him enjoy it. - Treason, on 01/11/2009, -3/+8Paragraphs are your friend.
- bobcat7407, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5Aren't a good team? No defense? Didn't they just beat the #2 seed who was supposed to kill them by playing excellent defense? You can argue all you want, the proof is in the win.
- Tw3ek, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5 The Cards still had to get 3 picks for it to be on the QB. Any D that gets 3 picks in a game deserves praise.
- Drakk0n, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5As a fellow AZ resident and cards fan i gotta say I totally agree - even if the season were to end right now they deserve a parade through downtown Phoenix, declare it a state holiday, because right now its like we have won the superbowl.
oh and Fitzgerald needs to be immortalized in bronze outside UofPhoenix Stadium. - jbhannah, on 01/11/2009, -0/+5The Cardinals defense did a great job, and Delhomme did a terrible job. Probably two of the interceptions and the fumble were completely Delhomme's fault, but the rest was the Cardinals defense—and the fact that the Cardinals offense turned around and got points off of nearly every turnover by the Panthers. Edgerrin James and Larry Fitzgerald have been amazing so far this month, and Kurt Warner is showing some of the flashes of brilliance that helped put the Rams in the Super Bowl several years ago.
If I were to go back in time to the start of the season and say these words to myself, I probably would have slapped myself, but: the Cardinals are in the NFC championship game, and they're playing like they deserve to be there. I don't think either team can beat either the Eagles or Giants; but I had also said the Cardinals would beat the Falcons and then get walloped in the divisionals, so I may yet be proved wrong again. - hawksfan03, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4i had the same plan during the vikings game last week. I knew they would lose since it was a big game though so I still got all my chores done.
- bobcat7407, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4Like that the Panthers were the #2 seed in the NFC and were undefeated at home until last night? How's that for some perspective?
- boydrew, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4This was incredible. Of all the playoff games, this is the only game I would have put money on and I would have picked Panthers easily. Definitely a sign of the Cardinals' toughness and the great coaching of Wisenhunt.
- joshefosho, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4Haha and I know this! Cmon Eagles...
- smacksaw, on 01/11/2009, -1/+5Damn them! Even though at the end of the season the Cardinals didn't have anything to play for, they should have tried harder. It's clear they were playing possum. Of course I'm a bit jaded because I had Warner and Boldin and after a season of fantasy domination I crashed and burned, LOL. I did stick with them in that NFL Playoff Challenge. I figured something like this would happen. A few analysts were saying they were not really trying hard once they knew they would be stuck in their seeded position no matter what and didn't want to give anything away to teams they might face later (Eagles, Falcons, Pats, Giants, Vikes). The rumour was they tried, but not very hard.
I'm not a Giants fan, but I am sympathetic to them. The Mara family are NFL heroes, IMO. Normally I'd root for the Giants, but I am rooting for them to face the Cardinals. I really don't like the way they did Warner. I think that was classless. You sign Warner, tell him he's the guy and then draft Rivers and trade for Manning? And it wasn't like they surrounded Warner with talent like he has now. It wasn't Warner's fault and there's a fair amount of Giants fans who hate him and he doesn't deserve it.
I would love to see him to into Eli's house and punk him. Especially because that whole Eli thing was a low-class operation with the Chargers. When you can out-low-class the freakin' Chargers, you know you've lost your way. They disgraced themselves that year. I'd say Eli was a punk, but it turns out now that Rivers is an even bigger *****. Jay Cutler is a great kid. He's an inspiration. Rivers is rude. He makes Eli seem nice? Amazing.
I can dream, but I'd like to see the Cardinals face my Steelers. I like Mike Tomlin, but Ken Whisenhunt should have been promoted to coach the Steelers. It was his turn. Tomlin may lose it for us because he can't manage the clock. He's too raw. He keeps making mistakes, but he is learning. However, it's time to win right now. Ken could vindicate himself if he could beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl. It would suck to see it, but I think we're a victim of affirmative action gone too far. With Dan Rooney being such a proponent of hiring black coaches it would have been hard for him not to do it himself. Tomlin isn't there yet. Ken was. We should be building a dynasty with people ready to win NOW. - sasbrb, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4I was at the game. After the Panthers easy first score, I turned to my son and said "Watch us lose 42-7." He yelled at me for jinxing us. It was horribly embarassing.
- mc_hambone, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4Delhomme needs to go. He has always had issues with lofting it into double coverage (having Steve Smith bail him out time and time again), not moving in the pocket, holding the ball too long, and making bad reads.
- Kumaku, on 01/11/2009, -0/+4The Cards have been getting a bad rap all season long. Every time I heard any commentary, it was always very critical and almost felt like they were saying, "It was a fluke".
- xienze, on 01/11/2009, -3/+6I disagree. After about 3 picks, it's on the QB. Jake didn't get picked off because of slick defensive moves, he got picked off because he was straight up throwing to defenders. I agree with the OP, this is more about Jake throwing the game than the Cardinals dominating on defense. They're getting blasted in the next round. I know people have been saying that for two games now, but the Cards really have gotten some good breaks in the playoffs.
- correy27, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3Delhomme threw into coverage because we had pressure all night and he was baited into most of those INTs. How many catches did Steve Smith have? At least we were nice enough to give him 1 TD with our 2nd string CB covering him. Don't delude yourself into thinking that you didn't get your ass handed to you by the Cardinals. Hey maybe you can still get a ticket to the NFC Championship I know that the NFL network is gunna have Peppers as a reporter there cause he really wanted to go to the game.
- Thekirby45, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3And I thought the titans had mistakes
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3i'll give the Cards credit. I was one of those people who said the Cardinals had no business being in the playoffs base on record and how they played. But this team seems for real.
In some ways they got lucky in playing against the worst post season QB EVER, who turned the ball over every chance he got ,but overall a pretty solid effort. - inactive, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3The Cardinals aren't even close to being in the same class as the Eagles or Giants, but don't forget what Kurt Warner did with the Rams. He's still shows those same flashes of brilliance every few games, and he's got a couple of really good receivers. Definitely a dangerous team. Both the Giants and Eagles are capable of not showing up, and the Cardinals will be ready to take advantage of that.
- joshefosho, on 01/11/2009, -16/+19Dear Haters,
HAHAHAHA, lets start off on how you all said that they were in a horrible division, which is true, but that is the only reason why
they were in the playoffs, not because they were a good football team. And in the first game against the Falcons they would get dominated and get the ball run up and down the field on them..UH OH! Michael Turner, one of the leagues best got nothing on the Cardinals defense, and the Cardinals dominated them in that game. BUT HERE COME THE HATERS! It wasn't because the Cards are a decent team its because they were playing at home, the crowd was loud, Matt Ryan didn't change up his snap counts and it didn't matter because next week the Cardinals have NO CHANCE in beating Carolina who is undefeated at home. UH OH UH OH!! The Cardinals defense DOMINATED the Panthers, 5 interceptions, 1 fumble. Steve Smith was no where to be found. Anquan Boldin being out for the game because of his hamstring meant that Larry Fitzgerald is would be on lock down and get nothing, his stats on the game eight catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. Yeah..Lock down.
Make excuses, drink your hater-aide, digg me down and GO CARDS! - Bub978, on 01/11/2009, -1/+4Oh man, gay jokes. I love these.
Do another! - Charlotte_Web, on 01/11/2009, -1/+4Nick, u got it exactly right. FIVE INTERCEPTIONS -- a game record for Delhomme. What the hell happened?!? An absolute disaster for the Panther offense.
By all accounts, the Panthers should have stomped the Cards last night. The Cards second best receiver was not playing, so they should have beefed up coverage on Fitzpatrick, who ran all over them.
I was among the many who sat there in the rain and watched that train wreck. Near the start of the fourth quarter, people were pouring out of the stands. The newspaper said that there were 3,000 people left in BoA Stadium when the game ended. - FallenWings, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3It was his birthday too :(
- jefbob, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3I thought about my comment for a few minutes and realized that I forgot to give props to Arizona for forcing and taking advantage of those turnovers. They did just that, which is part of what wins football games, so props to the Cardinals.
and Charlotte_Web, no worries. - FreddieD, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3As a St. Louis fan, I'm not necessarily happy for the Cardinals organization itself because Bill Bidwell can go eat a dick, but I think most of us are incredibly happy for both the Arizona fans and for Kurt Warner. That worthless owner gave you guys 20 years of futility, so you deserve all of the what you're getting right now.
- whatthefu, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3I feel so bad for Delhomme.
- FreddieD, on 01/11/2009, -0/+3He looks like he's wielding an invisible whip.
- bobcat7407, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2That is the most valid point I've seen on this board. What's the difference for the Cards offense over the last few games? The running game.
- jefbob, on 01/11/2009, -0/+2@Charlotte_Web - I hate to be a Nazi, but I am sure you mean Fitzgerald. Fitzpatrick plays for my lowly Bengals and unfortunately hasn't seen the field for a couple of weeks.
And you are right, the Panthers shot themselves in the foot last night, but thats part of the playoffs. The Cardinals were the beneficiary of that and live to see next Sunday. Lets just see what they do with it, its been an interesting year for the playoffs so at this point nothing will surprise me. -
