http://www.stampedeblue.com/2009/7/12/946820/begga ... - yeeaauuh, on 07/14/2009, -45/+108***** Tom Brady for not doing something about this. Break another leg *****.
- ricker2005, on 07/14/2009, -12/+60He's not paying Brady. He's paying a realty trust. And they make specific mention that Brady is unreachable on vacation, presumably plowing his supermodel wife.
Brady definitely comes off as a dick sometimes, but there's no evidence that he's being one here. Hell there's no evidence that he even knows this is happening. - EquesArdor, on 07/14/2009, -5/+43Everyone complaining about Brady: RTFA&STFU
I don't like how they saved the bit about Brady possibly having no idea about this whole thing for practically the last 2 sentences. - blitzwing85, on 07/14/2009, -2/+38Let me give some background into the neighborhood that Tom Brady lives in. The "back alleys" that they mention are not public alleys. They are privately owned routes that allow access to the rear of the townhouses. Garbage goes out front by the main street for collection. This is the equivalent of someone going into your backyard and stealing your grill and patio furniture because there was a garbage can next to it. This guy is a thief. Brady should not be subject to separate justice system because he is rich.
- alanocu, on 07/14/2009, -5/+38After living in Suffolk county for ten years, I can say without hesitation that the system is ***** here, especially municipal court. This is the kind of ***** that goes on all the time. Some of the cops are afraid to get their hands dirty and focus on ***** like the drive-by shooting that happened in front of my condo in Roxbury two weeks ago. Instead, you have a ***** focus on nonsense like this - a homeless guy is out on the street trying to find food to eat while ***** are driving around shooting people.
- ADifferentUsern, on 07/14/2009, -1/+33"One man's trash is another man's larceny charge."
- OLTP, on 07/14/2009, -14/+46I'm having trouble feeling sorry for this guy. He steals some big metal planters from behind someone's garage and sells them, then gets caught. So what if Tom Brady can afford the loss? The guy should not be taking other people's stuff, whether he thinks it looks like trash or not.
- cygnus2112, on 07/14/2009, -8/+38True. But it's not like he entered Brady's house with a gun and started taking things. Some people just go around and take trash - it's their living or the way they refurnish their home if they're just starting out.
He served his time though. Why keep punishing him? - decapitor, on 07/14/2009, -4/+32A lot of Robinhoods posting today, but if somebody stole your *****, regardless if you were rich or not, you wouldn't be so sympathetic.
- methdwman3, on 07/14/2009, -7/+32Brady had nothing to do with this. The court ordered him to pay back because the guy STOLE FROM HIM. Leave it to Digg to have sympathy for a common thief.
- DavidCEisen, on 07/14/2009, -0/+23wtf? Where do you think the money for FDIC comes from?
- methdwman3, on 07/14/2009, -1/+24BY the way, he took it off private property. Last time I checked, I can leave whatever I want on my private property, whether or not it is near trash, and have a right for it not be stolen.
- DavidCEisen, on 07/14/2009, -0/+21The guy served his time and seemed to be trying to follow the law. People make mistakes. He probably learned his lesson.
- Ajajadude, on 07/14/2009, -6/+23Yeah, why didn't Brady use his judicial powers to overrule the judge in this case?
- klooper, on 07/14/2009, -22/+35Tom Brady taking video of someone stealing from him? Oh, the irony....
- ImYourRealDad, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13I have a feeling most of those who commented didn't read the full article. It is highly doubtful Brady even knows about this situation considering the fact that it's still the off-season and he has been vacationing. Regardless if you're a fan of his or not Brady is well known in Massachusetts for actually being a very nice guy, it seems everyone OUTSIDE of New England hates him. I'd bet once Tom gets wind of this incident he'll have it completely straightened out (don't forget it would be a wonderful PR opportunity, too).
- thegreenspanput, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13Presbyterian? For real? That's retarded.
- PatsFan78, on 07/14/2009, -4/+14I doubt it Brady even has a clue, he only knows what his manager and press secretary tell him.
- sprkoolguy, on 07/14/2009, -5/+15if it was just a normal person and not Tom Brady who had a delivered package taken off of their back porch and sold for scrap by a vagrant would you be saying the same thing?? What if it was you? That is *****, you go around dumpster diving and garbage picking which is illegal in most places anyways, you better be god damned careful about it.
and FTR I have no love at all for Brady... go Bears - Shawn4168, on 07/14/2009, -11/+20I know, but this is Digg, where socialism is a way of life. The poor stealing from the rich is okay, it's just redistribution of wealth.
- andyb747, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Who reported the theft to the police ?
- zzzBrett, on 07/14/2009, -2/+11Nowhere does it say that Tom Brady took a video of the guy. Could have been any security camera.
- black27696, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Caption: "IN NEED OF CASH: Dennis Paiva, who lifted - he says mistakenly- tow flower boxes worth 8,000 from Tom Brady, panhandles on a Hub Street in order to repay the Patriots star."
I hate, HATE when there are misspellings in a news article. Really? - Ajajadude, on 07/14/2009, -0/+9Depending on local law, "dumpster diving" might still be illegal. Besides, if they were recently delivered as the article suggests, I don't see how anyone could mistake those pots for trash. Don't you need some sort of shipping/billing info on things being delivered to your house?
- jessemoya, on 07/14/2009, -3/+11That's not quite the point.
Here's a guy who made some really bad decisions in his life. What would you have him do? Pay his debt to society and then try and live an honest life? Stop me when I start to sound Socialist here.
The point is that this was an honest mistake and he's trying to pay the consequences. The problem is that his whole life is ***** when really it should be no problem for the guy who was wronged to say hey, why don't you recover from your injury (Lord knows I've been in a similar situation!) and pay me back when you're able to work. - PaulPi3rce, on 07/14/2009, -4/+12Not bad, although there is one thing you forgot to add in to your logic there...
Common Sense - Suzilla, on 07/14/2009, -1/+9In what places is garbage picking illegal? In fact, courts have traditionally ruled that there is no property interest in garbage -- pick away. (Businesses will use locked dumpsters as an exception, but otherwise, if trash is out on the street, it's fair game.)
- Sideshowslob, on 07/14/2009, -1/+9@agow86
Wow, you are a tool. - sprkoolguy, on 07/14/2009, -2/+10Pretty sure Tom Brady didn't come up with the idea to film other team's signal calls...
- reuscel, on 07/14/2009, -0/+7Reading the Boston Herald makes me realize how important it is that the Boston Globe not fail.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -2/+9I would have some sympathy for the guy if he were just a loser, but he is an ex-con, a bank robber. I do not believe his sob story. He claims he can’t work. If so, why is he not receiving Social Security disability benefits? Is it because the bastard never had a job and spent most of life thumbing his nose at, and stealing from, suckers who worked for a living? People like these belong on the street.
- keyforce, on 07/14/2009, -1/+7Especially if he'd robbed a bank before too.
This guys an *****, but go fight some other crime (like the aforementioned robbing of banks) - blitzwing85, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Right, there are public alleys in Boston, like any city, but Brady doesn't live on Comm. Ave. He lives on Beacon St, on the side closest to the river. There are no public alleys on his side of the street. I'm guessing the guy was on Back St (adjacent to the Charles River) and accessed the pots from there.
- BigSabowski, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5I can see both sides of this story. On the one hand, here's an ex-con who apparently made another "mistake." On the other hand, it does seem that Dennis was caught red-handed. I would think that if he was truly trying to go down the straight and narrow, he wouldn't steal. And if he really was stealing these flower pots, you'd think he'd just rob another bank. He's got enough experience to re-enter that line of "work."
Brady really doesn't figure into this much (personally, I don't care for him) but its tough to call him a jerk when he's quite possibly not even aware of the situation. It does beg the question though of who contacted the police/filed the report...
Its disappointing though, that many won't entertain the ex-con's explanation of the situation. He's an ex-con! He'd be denied most any job that he applied for because of his record - what do you expect him to do to survive? Society wants him on the straight and narrow, he seems to want to be on the straight and narrow, but that's pretty tough to do when you're an ex-con and most every door is slammed shut before you can even knock (figuratively speaking that is). - veriix, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5OK, ONCE AGAIN RTFA!
“I said, ‘You’re kidding me, they were in the trash!’ ” Paiva said. “The police talked to the people in the building and they said that deliverymen had left the planters in the back because there was no one home. Everyone agreed it was a mistake.” - Prayformojo777, on 07/14/2009, -0/+5Douche or no douche, he's an incredible quarterback.
- dball48, on 07/14/2009, -7/+12I'm sure he told the police that he thought the money he stole from the bank was trash too.
- Ajajadude, on 07/14/2009, -4/+9Tom Brady not being anywhere even near there? Kills your irony...
- heathuff23, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Wow...this article was submitted a little over an hour ago, yet this whole thing was resolved like 2 days ago by the businessman paying it off for him and is now a moot point. Way to keep up with the times digg!
- BahamaBreeze, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4I use to live in a house where homeless/bums would go through my trash everyday for cans and bottles. Every morning I'd walk out of my front door and there would be 3 or 4 guys standing right next to our garbage can. WTF I understand if you're poor and need some extra cash but you don't make money by illegally harassing my trash and recycling bin. Also, I don't want to worry about being stabbed in the back on my way to my car in the morning. And to the crack heads that stole the top part of my grill, ***** you!
- AdamOKane, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5Dug. Your sarcasm was not lost on me.
- TwistyMcFister, on 07/14/2009, -1/+5Dammit!! I go to Disneyland all the time and I missed Gisele Bundchen.......... FML
- gmiley, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Granted it doesn't excuse it, but spell-check doesn't catch that one. That misspelling, however, is one of the those that really should have been caught by even just a simple once-over review. To be even more picky, I don't understand why the author used hyphens there instead of commas or parentheses.
- greggerm, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4Skunkman - this very story is what prompted the businessman to front the money in the first place... the article you linked to says this very thing. Check the dates - Friday, 7/10 for the panhandler story, Saturday, 7/11 for the businessman charity.
- schickfu, on 07/14/2009, -6/+9All these people hating on this guy, what about the idiot deliveryman. No matter where you are, if you put something out with the garbage it's fair game. Maybe if the deliveryman had an ounce of intelligence he would have put them somewhere else.
- josh42042, on 07/14/2009, -1/+4screw this guy, he says "“I saw these two stainless steel metal containers behind a garage next to the trash,” Paiva said
that's not in the trash or on the street. that's on brady's property. - chesterogilvie, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3So he's going to suck from here on out, but even Cassell put up huge numbers with his current surrounding cast........................
- Rodskii, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3Brady really didn't know? Then who pressed charges for the theft? It is my understanding that only the owner of the item in question can press charges. How was the judicial system to know Brady didn't give him the pots as a gift unless Brady himself was questioned.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -2/+5this just goes to show you what few people read the article. good for you moron.
