- iceman0113, on 01/17/2009, -3/+10"Gruden, who had three years remaining on a contract extension he received after winning the NFC South in 2007, leaves as the winningest coach in franchise history at 60-57, including the postseason."
Complete idiots for firing him. Then again, they went and fired Tony Dungy. I can't wait to see where Gruden goes next, he's an outstanding coach. - TheSwashbuckler, on 01/17/2009, -0/+6Gruden is an average coach.
- FearlessFreep, on 01/17/2009, -1/+7Whoever hires him will beat Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl next year
- saygen, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5A lot of people in Tampa have blamed Gruden for his play calling, and I agree it wasn't great, but they just got room in the salary cap and it was Monte Kiffen who stopped coaching defense in December.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+5But you still cared eno ugh to click the link, and let everone know you aren't into sports? You are aware that you can filter the sports section, right?
- callanpalooza, on 01/16/2009, -3/+8Dumb.
- jba68, on 01/17/2009, -2/+6He definetley didnt take any *****, so I do like him for that. But his mind ***** ***** games with his qb's were just nutz. Of course he never had a stud to work with down there....
Just a few good qb's,.... - Alleran, on 01/17/2009, -3/+7As a New York Jet fan, this is probably the best opportunity to pick up a solid coach, rather than one of Belichick's retarded stepsons.
- WHUFCIrons2, on 01/17/2009, -2/+6We're having a party when Glazer dies! Having a party when Glazer dies!
We never should have fired Dungy, and we never should have gotten rid of Warrick Dunn. But, it wouldn't be Tampa Bay without getting rid of it's best. - WHUFCIrons2, on 01/17/2009, -0/+4Monte Kiffin is a god.
- rillo561, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3As a Jets fan, stay away from Chuckie. I live in FL and NO Tampa fan liked him, he ran that team to the ground. That Super Bowl was Tony Dungy's.
- Chirp08, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Tampa Bay will be lucky to make the playoffs.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Buried for being a Jets fan.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Actually, it is his fault that the offense doesn't know what's going on. Seeing as he's the coach and all.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -1/+4What, the front page article last night wasn't enough? Buried.
- Chirp08, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Garcia is good at improvising but he absolutely sucks at analyzing the defense and doing the play as it should be done in the book. He starts scrambling when there is no pressure on him, and he throws horribly. He is a great temporary QB but he is not a Superbowl caliber QB.
- g8trGTO, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3Raheem Morris has already replaced Gruden as head coach. He was promoted not too long ago to defensive coordinator and a few weeks later after that, head coach. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. As a Bucs fan, I would have definitely fired Bruce Allen (the GM) because he failed to bring quality players to Tampa. They have $44M left in cap space and that idiot refused to spend it. So I can't really blame Gruden because Allen refused to provide him decent players.
- jeremyadam, on 01/17/2009, -3/+5Living in Tampa, this is huge. Yes, he did bring us a superbowl title, but Dunge put that team together the previous season and Jon just finished what Dunge started.
- Roboting, on 01/17/2009, -3/+5"Gruden was overrated anyways. He won a Super-bowl with the team Dungy built and didn't do ***** after that."
Ill agree with that 100%.. I cant wait to see who will be his replacement! GOOO BUCs!!!!!!! - Volatile36, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2I think they're just ***** players.
- Ewingo401, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Most of his QB problems were a result of GM Bruce Allen not wanting to bring in the QB's that Gruden wanted. For example Gruden wanted to bring in Trent Edwards, but Allen nixed the idea, and we see that he's turning out well in Buffalo. Allen also insisted that Gruden work with Chris Simms, Gruden was against the idea and for good reason. I think Gruden has a great eye for QB's he just has to allowed to bring in the ones he wants.
- acknotSW, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2Detroit? Right about now, I would kill for a few years of .500 or even near .500 play.
It's probably hard for someone who isn't a long time lions fan to understand, but it can get so much worse. - NaziHatinChimp, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2I was going to comment "That was dumb." but your comment will suffice. Hell, they would of seen the playoffs had they beat the Raiders in the fourth quarter, which is the players fault.
- emptyo, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1yes, he will.
- quibian, on 01/17/2009, -2/+3You think Mike Shanahan would replace him?
- WHUFCIrons2, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1That would be a good shout. Personally, I'd like to see Dungy come back! Doubtful since he retired and all. But, here's to hoping.
- Nintendesert, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2He'll look good as the Cowboy's head coach.
- upstream1, on 01/17/2009, -2/+3Tampa should bring back the pumpkin orange, maybe that would be as symbolic a move to show fans they are "making changes" to improve.
Doug Williams baby- - jhusker4, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1He also built a Super Bowl team who he faced in the Super Bowl so the argument that he can't built a team appears to be invalid. Gruden is a great coach, as said in an early post the main prob Tampa Bay has always had much like many NFL teams is the quarterback position.
- kenyadoit, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1I'm glad somebody finally said it!
- Ewingo401, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1Bringing in Jon Gruden would probably give the Jets one more year of Favre. They should do it.
- du1834, on 01/18/2009, -0/+1Yeah, but to be fair, the team he did put together played Tampa in the Super Bowl that year. You get the feeling watching Indianapolis all of these years that they could have won more Super Bowls with another coach. Dungy strikes me as more of a builder of winners and not necessarily a great playoff coach.
I would have loved to hve seen Gruden follow Dungy to Indy this year and see what he could do with them. I'm not saying he'd do better..but it would be fun to watch him try. - jedinate, on 01/17/2009, -1/+2Not only did Dungy build the team, but Gruden created the playbook for the team they defeated...
- AmnesiacJack, on 01/17/2009, -5/+6Go ahead and bury me but I happened to like Gruden. I thought he was one of the few coaches who didn't take a lot of ***** and told it like it was. He should have done a better job on the QB situation but I'll still be sad to see him go.
- inactive, on 01/17/2009, -2/+2"Hey, you're doing better than any coach we ever had, but you're fired."
Idiots. - upstream1, on 01/17/2009, -3/+3it always boggles my mind when NFL teams, or any sports organization really, fires a coach to show some symbolic move.
- Volatile36, on 01/17/2009, -4/+3Not Gruden's fault the team is without talent worth mentioning, the defense just got tired, and the offense has no idea what's going on.
Go Bucs! Maybe next year? - syntaxgs, on 01/17/2009, -17/+3Still not a fan of base balls =D sorry buryied
