- tloftxj, on 03/01/2009, -3/+36I am a pissed off Eagles fan. Enough said.
- nickels, on 03/01/2009, -2/+32Doesn't matter what colors he wears, to me Dawkins is an Eagle for life.
- visionsofhoff, on 03/01/2009, -4/+25If I didn't already, I officially hate the Eagles ownership. Bunch a dimwits.
- Phocion55, on 03/01/2009, -2/+18Foregoing business casual and wearing my Dawkins jersey all week at work.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY - EvilJelloMan, on 03/01/2009, -3/+17As an Eagles fan, I only have one thing to say.....
FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU - KnightMareInc, on 03/01/2009, -1/+13WEAPON X
- blinker265, on 03/01/2009, -2/+12Dawkins, you will be missed *tear*
- Zanarkand, on 03/01/2009, -3/+12WTF....he was a perfect canidate to retire as an Eagle...I didn't even see this coming. I thought he would just retire on top rather than going to another team to fade away. This ownership either way you see it hasn't really made too many mistakes when it comes to letting people go. I don't think I have heard too many players that have left the Eagles and have gone on to be pro-bowlers.
- inactive, on 03/01/2009, -3/+12I can understand letting players like Jeremiah Trotter, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor, and even Duce Staley go because despite their overwhelming popularity, they were aging and their play was diminishing. Although he has some deficiencies in coverage, overall Dawkins is still performing well, having just earned his 7th pro bowl nomination, the December defensive player of the year, in addition to being the very heart and soul of the Eagles defense. The Eagles' business first, loyalty second philosophy has served them well in the past, but this move is sure to backfire on the Eagles. Even if Dawkins doesn't play that well in Denver, how the Eagles treated Dawkins will be in the mind of every current player and free agent that they try to woo. The fans are livid at losing one of the greatest Eagles in franchise history. The Eagles front office really messed up this time.
- roxgod666, on 03/01/2009, -3/+11I love the Eagles but they are the greediest and most heartless team in the NFL. They couldn't let the guy stay for another 1-2 years? He was the heart of the team and should have retired as an Eagle as a true franchise player. ***** Andy Reid and ***** the owners. Not only can they not win a superbowl, they just pissed off every Eagles fan.
- StephenIscool, on 03/01/2009, -2/+9Dawkins was the heart and soul of the Eagles, the team leader McNabb could never be. Good luck in Denver, Dawkins, we'll miss you.
PS-Good job Eagles FO, you have succeeded in being complete dumbasses. - FeloniusMonkey, on 03/01/2009, -1/+7As a Philadelphia and lifelong Eagles fan, I'm damn sorry to see him go. However, I'd be downright appalled if Eagles management made him the same offer Denver did.
Good luck, Denver. I can't believe you signed a 36 year old safety to a 5 year contract for that much money. - ell0bo, on 03/01/2009, -0/+6I just died a little inside. This week has been hell... now I loose this. Hell, I need to go get a new jersey now, and damned if I have money for that.
- ticonderoga321, on 03/01/2009, -3/+9Long time eagles fan but... ***** the Eagles
BTW whats with Denver giving him a 5 year contract - matt.rubin, on 03/01/2009, -1/+6stupid move
http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0bthfi34Udelb/ ...
look at his damn face! - smacksaw, on 03/01/2009, -0/+5No *****. With all of that money, talent and fan support, to have won nothing...you have to look at the ownership.
- davcross, on 03/01/2009, -2/+7So what is Andy's excuse this week?
- deadlyrice, on 03/01/2009, -1/+5http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe5B8W8ZyR4
This is what we're losing in Dawk. - vikingkory, on 03/01/2009, -3/+7The eagles are trying to upset their fans. You don't make that many dumb offseason moves without your fans becoming upset.
- edmoser, on 03/01/2009, -0/+4I'll always be a Dawkins fan, wherever he plays. It's a shame to see him leave, but it just wouldn't be smart to put up that kind of money for a player at this point in his career. The one thing that makes me feel better about it, though, is that I know he'll go into the Hall as an Eagle once that first ballot hits.
- edmoser, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3It's an American website, idiot. Who cares about European football?
- ell0bo, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3He will come back home with Denver this year. I really need to get a ticket for that game.
- LoungeActx, on 03/02/2009, -0/+3Amen to that. He was my favorite Eagle. They let the heart and soul of the team go.
- IKORKYI, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- FeloniusMonkey, on 03/01/2009, -0/+3Yeah... well we'll have to see where his loyalties lie when Denver comes to Philly in Fall 2009. $500 says he'll be more a Bronco at heart than an Eagle.
- madctch, on 03/01/2009, -4/+6This is sad.
- kolop1, on 03/01/2009, -2/+4The Eagles seem to always get rid of their players at the right time. Deuce Staley is just one example of that.
- DrWho520, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2Jeremiah Trotter, Troy Vincent and Deuce Staley are examples of players that parted ways with the Eagles due to finding bigger money elsewhere. None of them had success elsewhere. Trotter even came back to Philly and had success. I think Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas will be added to that list. You may not like it, but the front office has a proven track record when dealing with aging players. They offered Dawkins a fair deal that, when all is said and done, will only differed in guaranteed money. BDawk will have personal success, but he is leaving a much better franchise. He gave up the Eagles, playing at home in front of a crowd that loves him, competing for a Superbowl contending franchise and retiring for an Eagle for a few extra dollars from an 8-8 franchise with no RB, a bad defense, a rookie head coach and a QB controversy. Oh, and do not forget, their number one WR will probably sit for 8 games because of legal troubles and substance abuse policy violations. BDawk is great, but he made a bad move.
- strafefire, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2I don't get why you are being buried, that is the truth. Now they have McNabb and....Kolb!!!
- blinker265, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2i hate to admit it, but its true. dawkins was getting older and he didnt play as well as he should have last season. but it still makes me sad that he is going since he was the heart ad soul of philly
- jankind, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2You can still proudly wear that jersey, he'll always be loved here. I still see dudes in Trotter jerseys, I'd wear both of those numbers proudly!
- LogitechG15, on 03/01/2009, -4/+6This was such a bone headed move by the Eagles. Dawkins isn't just great player, but a leader who has represented the team for over ten years. Dawkins, in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas, is to Philadelphia what Favre once was for the Packers. The only person who should be leaving the organization is the idiot who didn't do what he could to keep him on the team. He was one of the very few players left who was so close to having their whole career with one team.
***** EAGLES MANAGEMENT. ANDY REID, ***** YOU AS WELL, LOSE SOME WEIGHT YOU FAT PIECE OF *****. - Phillycat81, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2I'm not afraid to say it. I shed a tear when I heard about it.
Who am I supposed to use when I flatten players in madden now? Demps?
Guess I'll be using denver from now on. - DrWho520, on 03/02/2009, -0/+2He did not have to retire. The Eagles offered him a deal. Dawkins went with the money and the longer contract, 6 years vs 2 years. In 6 years, Dawkins will be 41 years old. The Eagles were not going to offer him that long of a contract.
- emoneyd, on 03/01/2009, -2/+3Dawkins will be joining Renaldo Hill and Champ in the secondary. It's a step in the right direction to correct our piss poor defense, and I'm excited about it.
- Joshper85, on 03/01/2009, -1/+2your not alone
- EvilJelloMan, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1LOST lito? He spent more time on the bench than the field. No big loss there.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1"I'm sorry... It's my fault..."
- Talguy, on 03/01/2009, -1/+2This is a sad sad day here is philadelphia. He maybe getting up there in the years but he is still performing at a top level
- inactive, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1It's technically a 5 year deal, but the Broncos can void it to a default 2 year deal if they want to.
- lollapaloooza, on 03/01/2009, -3/+4I say this as a diehard Dawkins fan for a long time now. Yes, he's a great player, but he is getting old and there are other people out there. It's just not worth it anymore. Him leaving the team isn't the Eagles shoving their foot up his ass, it's simply the business of the sport.
On that note, I will miss the devastating hits he delivered so well for us :( - smacksaw, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1It's just salary cap magic. It's really a 2-year, $7.2m-ish deal. The salary can count in later years by structuring it this way.
- DrWho520, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1If by lost you mean TRADED him for something more valuable than an whiny, bench rider, then, yeah, they lost.
- strafefire, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1You should check on what the Bucs are doing. I think they are pissed that Detroit took their record from them!
- jamesmcm, on 03/01/2009, -2/+3I originally read Richard Dawkins signs with Broncos and was like WTF?!
- strafefire, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1"I love the Eagles but they are the greediest and most heartless team in the NFL"
Ummm...I think that the Bucaneers have you BEAT:
Fired head coach late and for no reason so he cannot get another job elsewhere, although he took a team filled with nothing and made something work out of it.
Fired almost all veteran players, including Tampa community service and charity leader, Derrick Brooks...
Allowed awesome defensive coordinator to leave.
And, it could be worse! At least you are not a Lions fan...*hangs head in shame* - DrWho520, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1I love Dawkins also, but they did offer him a 2 year deal. Dawkins wanted more money. Who is greedy?
- BigPixel, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1As a Redskins fan, I couldn't be happier now that we no longer have to play Dawkins twice a year :)
- DrWho520, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1You just cited four examples of how the Eagles deal with veterans in free agency, and you are surprised this is the results? First, the Eagles did not let Dawkins go. They offered him a contract at a fair price. Second, Dawkins left to get more money. So the money was worth more to him than being an Eagle. Third, signing a 36 year old player to a 6 year deal in the NFL means absolutely nothing. The deal can be voided after two years. It might as well be a two year, 9 million dollar deal. The Eagles offered BDawk a 2 year deal with less guaranteed money. It was all about the guaranteed money. Dawkins will not be playing after 38 years of age.
