- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -10/+90Negative Favre comments are against the digg terms of service. :)
- badfrog, on 10/12/2007, -12/+46Woo! Go Pack!
- gengisPhat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I am a huge Packers fan and I have no problem with this. With what they have I think they did a good job going .500 and Favre helped (hell, if the Giants would have lost their last game they would have been in the playoffs). There isn't anyone better they can get so I am all for it.
- blackbelt88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Maybe he just wants to play because he enjoys the game, you ever thought about that?
- blackbelt88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22You don't want to hear another season of hooplah? It's not Packers fans, or Brett Favre that starts this crap. The media has turned it into a huge event every year ever since he turned thirty. They barrage him with questions and make it into a big deal when all he really had to say was "I haven't really thought about that yet. Maybe in the offseason," and it goes from there. I am sick and tired of everyone criticizing Favre for this when it's not even him that makes it a huge issue.
- Scagli3tti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17not when you can write the terms of service yourself :)
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I'm currently sitting in my office in Green Bay, about 2 miles from Lambeau Field. I don't think anybody is working right now... in the entire city. He's sort of a big deal around here.
- johngardiner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Haha isn't lying about the terms of service also against the terms of service?
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I really don't mind. We are a simple people with simple values. We eat meat, drink beer, and football makes us happy. Farve and Lombardi are local legends and we have more sports bars than night clubs. Also, it's Friday and I didn't feel like getting much done anyway.
- gladding, on 10/12/2007, -23/+31This guy needs to hang it up... he has nothing left to prove and an excellent backup QB who deserves a shot.
- grendelboogie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm kinda thinkin' the receivers on the Packers would much rather have Favre throwing to them than Rogers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10ESPN is reporting Favre as coming back!
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2752040 - imnojezus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Favre is one of my favorite players of all time and of any sport because he HAS FUN. It's a game, and he understands that.
But even I think he should have hung it up a couple of seasons ago. - philski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Flaw in that argument is, he has 20+ rookies around him. There is plenty of fresh talent around him. It took a few weeks to get that talent up to speed and then look how the team wound up in December - 4-1. He is one of the better quaterbacks in the league right now - not the best, true, but at 38 do you really expect him to be? I think he can top last season and give the postseason a run for its money, and then hang the cleats up.
- philski, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Tell that to Rex Grossman and his 0.0 passer rating, Packers at Bears, DEC 31 2006. He made more completions to Packers' defenders than he did to Bears' receivers :)
- fober, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For all of you people digging down negative comments, remember that if Favre retires, John Madden will finally have nothing to talk about.
- gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8yeah if they think he's good enough (and he is) then they should have him as the qb for as long as he can perform. qb's retiring and half backs retiring are completely different just as their positions are. i hope a year from now we're talking about the packers in the super bowl because they are a team that just epitomizes class in the NFL. good for you favre
- berfmurret, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10awwww brett. you love your sport so much. it kind of puts a little tear in my eye. best of luck.
don't get hurt, old man!!! >:O - minapolos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10You clearly do not know what your talking about. Sure he has nothing to prove but I am pretty sure he would rather go out on a high note. There is no better way to retire than after at least making it somewhere in the playoffs. His backup played in the pre-season and did not show anything that warrants not wanting Favre to come back. I am starting to think that you are a Bears or Vikings fan because any Packers fan in his right mind can see that Favre has a lot to offer to the team and that there are very few quarterbacks in the NFL that come close to how good he is.
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9which is why they beat the bears at home?
- RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I never understood the negativity around Favre. Anyone who says he is holding back the team does not watch football. Farve is still better than 50 percent of the QBs out there right now. What other QB can take their team in the playoff run with an offensive line that is mostly rookies, the youngest receiveing corp in the NFL, and dinged up running backs and tight ends. He has ONE weapon in Donald Driver and the rest of the weapons on offense would have a hard time starting on other teams.
Yes is he careless with the ball at times, but if he doesn't take chances, then the ball would never get down the field. At the beginning of the year he threw less INTs and they were losing more than at the end of the year when he aired it out more. Coinsidence?
Yes he is aging, but what about is game is showing that? He is still able to move around quite well, and he still has an arm stronger than 90 percent of the QBs out there.
The dude enjoys playing and he is still good at it. Enjoy watching him play and tell you kids about him when you get old.
BTW... Anyone who thinks Aaron Rodgers is a great QB, please watch the tapes of when he stepped in for Farve. He is a serious work in progress still. Plus, he is injured.
[/rant]
- philski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7yeah, but Rogers sucks. What halfway decent play has Rogers pulled off? I can't think of anything, preseason, or in the (almost) half of a game he played when Favre injured his shoulder. A couple meager passes, mostly handoffs and interceptions. Rogers is nothing special, or if he is he hasn't shown it when he is given the chance (that's his problem...)
- Doug_E_Style, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The day he retires their should be a parade............... in downtown Chicago!
He's been a pain in our ass since day 1.
Go Bears - coastyvet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7But I do believe the Bears beat the Pack by a larger spread at Lambeau
- Nytemare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Aaron Rogers is overated at best, at worst, he'll be another Ryan Leaf.
The Pack needs Favre and Favre needs the pack. It's a ying and yang thing.
He brings balance to the force.
The last gunslinger.
The end of an era... - Nytemare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Rodgers blows...
My concern is that they resign Green. Vernand Morency is a very capable back. Runs the counter like no other back in the league. Can move between the tackles with ease. Good cuts and hits the hole fast. Plus, he has the speed to get outside and make something happen. Invest time in Morency, Let Favre play the way he plays, and shore up the defense a little more and the Pack is a nasty team to have to play. Driver and Jennings will be a great duo next year.
It'll be a great year. - The1337Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well I think Brett Favre will just win the Super Bowl by himself.
- shickey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As a vikings fan, I get to see plenty of old Brett. A great competitor, and a great player. I'm tired of him a bit, but I'm mostly tired of the incessant comments about how he is a "warrior", and general constant ass kissing by commentators.
Again, before you digg me down, I respect the guy....it's the commentators that are annoying. I only want to see him retire to shut up the big mouths. - KayIslandDrunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah what's chapter 1 called: How to break all-time QB records?
Out of all the quarterbacks in the NFL there are many many that should have stopped playing at the end of this season before Favre. - bwhancock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He throws picks because he makes poor decisions or the communication breaks down between him and the receiver on the route that's going to be run based on the defense and sometimes a ball is tipped, etc...I've seen virtually every game Favre has played in and I haven't seen him throwing picks because he doesn't want to get hit. He is a much better scrambler than David Carr and has avoided many sacks with his feet. The better QBs find a way to avoid sacks and have less injuries. It's not rocket science. I don' t think David Carr is tougher because he has been hit more.
And you are correct, it takes a team to win a Super Bowl and not a player, but Favre's ability has won more games for the Packers than his mistakes have cost them to lose games. He only has one losing season as a starter in 2005 out of fifteen years being a starter.
He played a season with a broken thumb - he played a season with 'tennis elbow' - he's has played through pain (and he cannot take anything more than tylenol 3 for pain - due to his early problems with addiction)
You can be a hater, but the man is tough. - marcduke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@condylura
Holy cheese and rice, do you even watch Packer's games or do you simply follow your fellow Favre Haters and point to a handful of games in the past 2 seasons to suggest he's a has been? The guy is still better than at least half the QBs currently starting in the league. And when a guy like Rex Grossman makes the Superbowl, I feel pretty happy with the Packer's current QB situation. - sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@philski
In regards to Grossman I'm sure you meant "remain" in mediocrity.
Let's face it. The Bears Defense, Special Teams, and Running game got the Bears into the Super Bowl. Grossman just had the best seat in the house. - DTJunkie07, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hell Yea! This made my day! I'm a HUGH Green Bay Packer fan. And stop it with all the negative comments...all you negative people have no idea what your talking about.
- manova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool, probably the only time the Sun Herald will ever get a digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Brett Favre over the Bears?
http://digg.com/football/The_Green_Bay_Packers_and_The_Chicago_Bears_An_Analytical_Comparison - Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed...He did say that he had more fun this year than last year, and thats what makes him feel like he could play a 100 more games. But he also had another year left on his contract too, so there was an obligation there I am sure.
- Scagli3tti, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4ugh...they already rebuilt. They were the youngest team in the league this year, and all of their young talent finally started to mature, which could be seen by them winning the last four games of the season (thus doubling their win total from the 4-12 season of '05) and finishing second in the division.
They set their rebuilding process in motion at the end of last season, and everything, in a realistic sense, is pretty much on schedule in terms of bringing the team back to contender status. The last thing they need right now is their hall of fame quarterback to throw in the towel and leave the team in the hands of an inexperienced and unproven amateur. - rabidrooster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I'm in town to play the Dolphins you dumb@ss."
- Zol74n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow, so much negativity!
Why is it that all of you find it so hard to understand why he's coming back? Sure he's not as good as he used to be, but he still has a better arm than almost all of the quarterbacks in the league. But most importantly, he just loves the game. I think that's reason enough for him to want to play another season. - cool7cap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@pooper
how can you not say he is the toughest QB he holds the record for most consecutive games, and you cant be a position player in the NFL without getting hurt. and don't give me this crap that the defense won it for them in '96 you cant have some one win 3 consecutive MVP honors and claim that the defense won it for him. - philski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Pack was 1 game from winning wildcard this year (giants got it instead) ... and actually there were 2 tiebreakers that would have gotten the packers into the playoffs had the right teams won/loss that weekend.
Lions will always lose - that is a fact. I don't worry about the Vikings (anymore). Divisionally, it comes down to packers-bears. We will see if Grossman steps up and becomes a real quaterback or if he fades into mediocrity - SuspectDevice, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7And who's going actually in the Super Bowl? The Packers? No that's right the Bears.
- troyfoley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Actually, until the last few games, the Favre retirement talk had been minimal compared to the year before, and I live in Green Bay. Therefore I diggeth you down.
- philski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4in the superbowl IN SPITE of Rex Grossman.
Now imagine if they had a halfway decent quarterback. - shickey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3actually, he pronounces it FAR. I've actually heard him say it. So there.
- ggypsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm divided. On the one hand, he's got a good shot at tying up some more records before he retires. On the other, that Bears game was about the best send off he could have asked for (and I'm saying that as a Chicago born-and-bred Bears fan.)
I can't imagine it's easy, dedicating the entirety of your LIFE from pre-adolescence on developing your skill in a sport you're passionate about, and being told that you're too old and broken down to pursue it anymore when your pride tells you that you still can... must be a big blow. I can totally understand why Jordan left/came back/etc so much, despite the walloping he took from all the fans and on the talk shows.
Thankfully, it's not my decision, it's Farve's. I wish him the best with whatever he chooses, and hope that if he continues he doesn't get hurt. - 04TL, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11damn, most of you are full of negativity...
i'm extremely glad he's coming back...it's not that he needs to, like some of you have stated, but more so that he likes to play...besides, i think being one victory away to tie john elway and needing seven TD passes to pass dan marino is good enough reason to keep playing. he's come this far, might as well finish what he started...unless you all are against that too...
and concerning the reply to the comment about the team going .500 last season...the original post didn't say he enjoyed any team going .500...it said they did a good job getting to .500, since they had a bad start...and that analogy about telling your son he's doing great with a C average is completely stupid...there's a difference between a game and reality, which you (ngmcs8203) obviously have yet to learn...
favre isn't destroying a legacy...he's not bringing down the team...and he isn't trying to prove anything. if he's having fun, helping the younger players, and pissing all of you off by coming back another season, then i encourage him to come back next season as well... - RIPtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am a huge Packerfan. This is good news. They had a very strong 1/2 half. I remember most experts had them with a 1st round draft pick. They pulled it together at the end.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm ok with the man enjoying his time on the field. I think Packer fans need to take off the Gouda and look at a reality. Every great athlete goes through it at the end of their career, and Favre is no exception. If they think they can still physically play than they will as long as they are allowed to.
To defend a hall of famer is useless because we all know that is where he's going. But just like Giants fans will be doing this upcoming season, there will have to be a point in the year when Packer fans say... ok, let's give the kid a chance and let the veteran retire. He's a living legend, much like Jerry Rice was... but when do you say enough is enough? When he gets knocked out of the game and ends his career on a stretcher? - marcduke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"What the hell is Brett Favre doing here?"
