- ManUnitdFan, on 05/07/2009, -0/+55In other news, ESPN scrambles to fill new giant hole in news coverage.
- rwbrinso, on 05/07/2009, -0/+40Vinny Testaverde has expressed interest, however.
- KrisStrong, on 05/07/2009, -2/+22Thank god. I don't think I could stand seeing him crying on ESPN anymore.
- stevgex, on 05/07/2009, -0/+18I guess this means John Madden will stay retired too.
- FirstCuts, on 05/07/2009, -0/+16Somewhere, Big Daddy Drew is running around pantsless with joy. But really, who is to say he won't change his mind in 48 hours? He's already done that this offseason.
- dagnabbit, on 05/07/2009, -0/+10I had hoped the Vikes would get him just because the idea is so crazy, but I'm glad we won't have to deal with the Favre circus from now until September (and beyond).
- SkippyDoorknob, on 05/07/2009, -0/+9This just in: John Madden hired as coach of the Vikings
- ell0bo, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Yeah, Manny just helped them out for two weeks at least.
- Fisk, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8Favre retires than Madden? I think Madden had a lot to do with Favre not returning. If Favre returns then so does Madden BOOM!
- stopbrorape, on 05/07/2009, -0/+8I think the "Manny testing positive for performance enhancing drugs" story is good enough.
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -1/+8I am a Bear's fan. Would have loved to see the Vikings sign him.
- Polycarp87, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7Thank god my life savings which I have invested in 10,000 Limited Edition Commemorative Collectible Official Bret Favre Retirement Issues is safe!
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -1/+8It was kind of embarassing for the main local sports radio network here in the twin cities.. they had been talking and speculating all day since it was all but certain that Childress was going to Mississippi.
Then, at 9AM today, Childress was seen on camera going into the Vikings' training facility. Oops.
It would have been nice, and it would have sold a lot of tickets (they sell out anyway), but I still think they've got a great chance this season. - AlyxVance, on 05/07/2009, -0/+7I live in Minnesota surrounded by super annoying packer fans. I wanted this to happen SO bad just to see them pissed off.
- Bologner, on 05/07/2009, -1/+8Us Packer fans have two words to say to Brett Favre:
Smart move. - vondrak, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5The problem is that he doesn't always want to play. For years, after the football season was over, he would flirt with the idea of retiring. I think Favre wants to play football, but doesn't want to deal with the mental or physical preparations required.
And once he finally told the Packers he was done playing, we had to move ahead.
I can't believe I'm still discussing this stuff! - oo7evan, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Because he'd be worse than Tarvaris Jackson?
- grendelboogie, on 05/07/2009, -0/+5Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!
- whatthefu, on 05/07/2009, -4/+8Am I the only one who thinks Favre should still play if he wants to? People were saying he was too old when just two years ago he got his team to the NFC Championship. He's still a great player.
- TheShagler, on 05/07/2009, -0/+4Think about all the passes Brett would have been throwing to the packers if he was playing for the Vikings.

I'M NOT LISTENING. - Zera, on 05/07/2009, -1/+5As a life long Packer fan, I am honestly disappointed that Brett won't play another year. I don't care who he plays for, but I feel that if he wants to play, he should be able to play as long as he can earn the starting role.
It was a mistake for the Packers to let him go, and it was Brett's mistake for "retiring" preemptively. I will always be a Packer fan, but I'm a believer that you let your legends do whatever they want, as long as they want. Montana should have always been a 49er, for example. - jawni, on 05/07/2009, -1/+4http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistics?stat=rush ...

I bet a lot of people are in a world of hurt then - inactive, on 05/07/2009, -2/+5It doesn't matter if they make it to the playoffs because they'll choke. The Vikings are the Chicago Cubs of the NFL. 0/4 in superbowls, always lose in the playoffs even when it's in MN and against a crappier team...
They should just give up now. - TheShagler, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3bummer... I would have loved to see this.
- scottsdot, on 05/13/2009, -0/+3Neither Favre nor anyone from the Vikings have said that He will not be part of the team next year. As we all saw last year, until its done no one will really know. As for his ability, until he got hurt last season he was a top 15 qb and thats what the need.
- Brassbud, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3At this point I won't believe anything that isn't sung by a 300 pound woman.
- Fistdantilus, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3I think all the vikes fans here in MN were excited at the idea of him being our QB. Squandering AP's best years with Tavaris at the helm is nothing short of depressing.
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3Good. Let him retire with at least the remaining shreds of his dignity.
- windycityhxc, on 05/07/2009, -0/+3The second sentence negates the first.
- Lefts, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Tomorrow: Brett Favre signs with some other team.
Oops. - dehn, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2good because if farve came out of retirement then madden would be forced to also come out and i cant listen to him anymore
- sprNmgcHlmt, on 05/07/2009, -1/+3so i guess we can now all assume he will be coming back.
dude is super flake wishy washy. - DecoyQ, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Sucks for those of us who invested in Micheal Jordan
- OasisR123, on 05/08/2009, -1/+3It is hard, because when you have no QB like the vikings, the defense stacks the box with 7-8 players
- stopbrorape, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2They have a really good team besides a QB and pass defense.
- flippedcracker, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2what's there to explain about his decision? he retired, isn't that explanation enough?
- jawni, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Or all the flagrant fouls in the NBA playoffs, or the ovechkin/crosby showdown but besides that....ya there really strugglin.
- thurows, on 05/08/2009, -1/+3No he's not, yes he is, no he's not, yes he is. . . 2008 again?
- dantheman733, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2giggity
- mlvassallo, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2Ya know, he could have said that with a phone call. From his home. Weeks ago. Dude just loves the spotlight.
- CoronaVegas, on 05/07/2009, -3/+5Who needs Favre ?
How hard is it to hand the football off to the best Running Back in the NFL?
Adrian Peterson! - aliengoods, on 05/07/2009, -0/+2If the Vikings signed Favre, I would take the Bears D in fantasy. That's gotta be at least 4 interceptions per game.
- michelebot, on 05/07/2009, -1/+3Chris Mortenson manufacturing news again. Surprise, surprise.
- stopbrorape, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-playbook/090 ...
- tMANwi, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Rodgers is a great quarterback. Now go back into your hole
- momedefome, on 05/08/2009, -1/+2I'll believe it when I see it
- inactive, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1It's different than before because he has injuries now. He has torn tendons in his throwing arm, it isn't just an issue of whether or not he's got the stuff. Well... it is an issue of whether or not he's got the stuff but that's influenced by his torn tendons.
- aliengoods, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1>they sell out anyway
Since WHEN? Last year the local TV station had to buy tickets to 4 or 5 of the Vikings home games to prevent a blackout. About the only time they sell out is when the Vikings play the Packers or Bears, because fans from both of those teams will travel to see their team play. Favre would have sold out every home game and would have sold insane amounts of merchandise, so this is definitely a loss for the Vikings. - blah247, on 05/07/2009, -0/+1Care less about Farve... +1 for Bears!
