- SooperSonic, on 11/02/2009, -7/+145A few plays later, Tim Tebow came on the field and miraculously restored the Georgia RB's sight.
- BallistiCrayon, on 11/02/2009, -5/+89I think he should have been suspended more than just half a game. A full game at least.
- bbbreak, on 11/02/2009, -5/+68That's just a sad move to make. You're the number 1 ranked team, but you have to eye gouge opponent team members? That's just disgraceful to football and I agree with BallistiCrayon. Even 1 game seems too low of a punishment for eye gouging.
- HeyyyJoe, on 11/02/2009, -5/+42No, why Florida players should get their fingers cut off.
- newerakb, on 11/02/2009, -10/+39The concept of 'penalizing' here seems too soft. Why is this not an assault case?
- dagnabbit, on 11/02/2009, -6/+33Could've blinded a guy, so yeah a HALF game suspension against Vandy sounds about right.
/s - kooch888, on 11/02/2009, -1/+20wise guy eh?
nyuk nyuk nyuk - jordanlgta, on 11/02/2009, -9/+25HALF GAME SUSPENSION AGAINST VANDERBILT? WHAT???
I hope Alabama knocks the ***** out of Florida in the SEC Championship. Alabama will be ready for that game. Just wait and see. - snasu, on 11/02/2009, -1/+17The NCAA or SEC should do something about this type of conduct. Shouldn't just be up to the coach.
- SLSSNAKE, on 11/02/2009, -0/+16Wow, it's really strange that so many people commenting here were taught that two wrongs DO make a right!
- moo113, on 11/02/2009, -1/+15Suspended? Isn't that a form of aggravated assault?
- Demaskee, on 11/02/2009, -16/+30Typical SEC style football.
- JohnFredC, on 11/02/2009, -8/+20The same thing was done to Spikes (by a Georgia player) earlier in the game... because of which he had to sit out some plays. Didn't you guys even watch the game? There is film of that incident, too.
Poor Georgia. A program in a long slow slide to permanent residence in the basement of the SEC. - IHaveCrayons, on 11/02/2009, -14/+25Florida is overrated... they almost lost to freaking Arkansas. ARKANSAS
- bjs3171, on 11/02/2009, -1/+12that's nice of you. i'd have him kicked in the balls without a cup, and forced to wear a skirt for the next few games.
- newerakb, on 11/02/2009, -0/+10Sure have mr assumptions. And when a player does something that would be illegal if it weren't during the game, and the game doesn't allow it either...it's still illegal. And eye gouging is definitely assault.
- subliminali, on 11/02/2009, -2/+11he got a half game suspension.... here's the link--
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=461658 ... - Snoogs, on 11/02/2009, -6/+15Um, shouldn't this be jail time? Attempting to permanently damage someones vision over a ***** game... That piece of ***** should never set foot on the field again.
- stilesja, on 11/02/2009, -11/+18That was a obviously a mistake. He clearly thought he managed to get his fingers stuck down another players pants and became sexually aroused. Everyone knows Brandon Spikes loves ass play.
- bphicke, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7"Are you that weeny?"
Are you honestly trying to claim that intentionally gouging out someone's eye is just a part of the game? - cruelsniper, on 11/02/2009, -1/+8@superman
What the hell is your deal? This is the second moronic comment from you I've come across in this single submission. Just because something is more competitive, it has to be more violent? You're using the level of competitiveness in NCAA as an excuse for a Florida player to attempt to permanently damage someone's eyesight. Do you not see something extremely morally wrong with that?!? Geez, at least have enough respect for your opponent not to injure them for the rest of their life. - SkilledPrestO, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7You've got to be kidding me...
- getjustin, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6Just like Alabama almost lost to Tennessee? It's the SEC. Any given Saturday.
- Kungfumantis239, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6Demaskee, don't be hating because every other conference besides the SEC and PAC-10 sucks right now :P(in comparison, they're all amazing athletes)
- mangina, on 11/02/2009, -1/+7i think there's a difference between not helping tebow up to wear him out and purposefully sticking your hand into another player's eyes when they're at the bottom of a pile.
- trizzleatl, on 11/02/2009, -7/+13Both teams were playing dirty. Spikes just got caught.
- HeyyyJoe, on 11/02/2009, -1/+7players shouldnt have to wear eye protection because they might get their eye poked out by a dirty player. if gauging eyes was permitted by the SEC, then maybe players should wear visors.
- SuperSneaks, on 11/02/2009, -8/+14Seems the Gator Haters are out in full force. While Spike's actions are inexcusable did we all forget the stuff Georgia pulled during the game. Late hit on Tebow, multiple facemasks (like the one were Spike's helmet got ripped off and he got poked in the eye and the pulling of his dreads). For a team that never led in the game they were talking a lot of *****. Also the running back who got his eyes "gouged" kept playing after that and acted like nothing happen. I would think that if his eyes had been "gouged" he would of wanted to start fight with Spikes. At the post game press conference he said nothing about getting his eyes gouged. Face it he didn't get his eyes "gouged" and if you have ever played football at lot worse stuff happens in the pile than you see. Perhaps the running back shouldn't of spit in Spikes face and then have Spikes wipe the spit back on him.
- matt.rubin, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6If I was that running back I would buy a visor now.
- snagglefoof, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6That's a stupid cop out. It shouldn't be happening. Players should be mature.
- beerhound, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6So that justifies it?
- mandraque, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6they had 4 red zone turnovers and still won. I don't think that many teams could pull that off.
- Kungfumantis239, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6Exactly what I was thinking, how many of you actually watched the game?
Georgia was doing the same *****, every team does. Ever been at the bottom of a dog pile? People spit in your face, grab your nuts, pinch, pretty much anything and everything out of sight of the refs.
Georgia, however, was doing it clearly for the entire nation to see. Florida is just smart enough to do it where it's hard to see. - schmons, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5the SEC has already said they agree with the punishment. don't look to the SEC for any reasonable logic here though, there is a clear favoritism to florida.
you cant complain about the ***** officiating in the SEC or else they will fine/suspend/whatever they want to you but you gouge a players eye and a half game suspension is fine. - DaneGleesac, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6i mean eye gouging in football is like "checking the oil" in wrestling. its something that goes on all the time but is rarely reported.
Edit: and by wrestling i mean real "rasslin" - TheBigBad, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5If you think stuff like this doesn't happen in every pile from high school to pro you are delusional.
- jordanlgta, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6What?
"But mommy he started it!"
Doesn't matter. We've got video of Brandon Spikes...not anyone else. - bphicke, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5What does it take for gouging out an eye to be considered an appropriate response?
I am interested in future eye gouging opportunities that may be lost without this information. - jordanlgta, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6He was talking about this season. IHaveCrayons referred to a game from THIS SEASON. What don't you get about that?
- skimikaze, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5Video or it didn't happen.
- jordanlgta, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5Let's place bets on how long until JohnFredC and SuperSneaks start making out.
- Fleagleman, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4and that reason is...eye-gouging?
- worldstoaster, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Let's see you beat LSU before you start looking toward ATL.
- SpruceCaboose, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4I thought it was more Mike Tyson has no control over his impulses and/or was hungry.
- sealink, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Dugg for "rasslin"
- chrisdodges, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Pieces of ***** run in the family. His brother is serving life in prison for first degree murder.
- ilovelegos, on 11/02/2009, -6/+10I thought Gators ate Bulldogs not gouge their eyes out like girls in a cat fight.
- newerakb, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4Yup, you nailed it. Hockey refs allow fighting, they just give it a minute before stepping in. And believe me, if players started eye gouging during a hockey fight, they'd be ejected. If you don't see a difference between violence the game allows, and things like this, your brain isn't working correctly imo.
- rockytop9808, on 11/02/2009, -2/+5They're overrated too.
- sleeknerve, on 11/02/2009, -5/+8Stay Classy Florida
