- xOKxWhy, on 12/28/2008, -0/+47Looks like they'll have to franchise Cassel
- cl2yp71c, on 12/28/2008, -3/+47Blame it on his new fiancee.
- pumpelly, on 12/28/2008, -0/+21Did I just hear Matt Cassel's bank account go KA-CHING?
- reaper527, on 12/28/2008, -2/+23thats not good. matt is actually going to be looking for money when his contract runs up this year
- brsteve88, on 12/28/2008, -6/+26From what? What has he done aside from be good and win? And don't even pull that 'he left his kid,' because people split up all the time.
- IpecacNeat, on 12/28/2008, -6/+24Seriously, you guys know nothing about the guy. You thank an injury upon someone? You two are despicable human beings.
- JRW5061, on 12/28/2008, -4/+21He's also banging super model Gizelle Bunchen. If that's bad karma then I want some.
- inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+13OF COURSE his knee is in still bad shape, how can you expect the knee to heal when he's ***** Budchen everyday???
- aaronhoffmeyer, on 12/28/2008, -2/+14The speculation about his knee is just that. Tearing both side ligaments of a knee used to be a career-ending injury, and it often still is. Those ligaments are incredibly fragile and not easy to repair.
If he can come back, he will. If he does, it is highly unlikely that he will ever be able to perform as he has in the past. Peyton Manning was not that effective until about six games into this season, and he only had an infected bursa sac removed. The ACL/MCL replacement is a much trickier surgery.
Matt Cassel is a virtual Brady clone, and if Brady cannot come back and be effective, Cassel is a more than capable replacement. The Giants will keep him, and pay him what he is worth ... nearly as much as Brady ever made.
I think most people hope that Brady will be able to return. He is a good person, was in the middle of an incredible career, and has definitely been one of the best quarterbacks ever. That being said, I'm fairly certain that his knee will never be the same, and he may not ever play football again. Only time will tell.
And to all those who think that he abandoned his girfriend while pregnant, the evidence does not really support that. They broke up before she realized she was pregnant. My guess is that she may have decided to get pregnant when she realized that the relationship was probably over in an attempt to either save the relationship, or at least obtain a very valuable meal ticket for 18 years. Was he careless in getting his girlfriend pregnant during what had to be one of their last trysts? Of course. Will he be a good dad? Probably. Will the child have every financial advantage imaginable? You know it. - TheGreatHambino, on 12/28/2008, -8/+19You're ***** retarded if you think Tom Brady deserves this injury.
- jpie05, on 12/28/2008, -0/+10pats gotta franchise cassel. If it turns out brady's fine, then cassel's valuable trade bait, and if brady's out another season then no problem (except the cap numbers i guess)
- JamesBondJr, on 12/28/2008, -0/+9no, they're just joking.
- hrhs556x, on 12/28/2008, -6/+15Bad Karma? Douchebag? He goes from an underdog nobody to winning 3 superbowls and now he's a douchebag with bad karma? how did that happen?
- haroonie, on 12/28/2008, -2/+10 Tom gets down on one knee..
"Gisele, will you marry me-- arrrggggggggggggh my kneee!!!" - inactive, on 12/28/2008, -0/+6I'm a Chargers fan. Very unfortunate for a guy with so much talent.
- brewer, on 12/28/2008, -3/+9-lepetitmousse
What about them is smug and douchey? I'll tell you:
Randy Moss and Coach Belichick. - RevJonathan, on 12/28/2008, -4/+10What?
I would think that this season proves that the Pats don't need him. They just went 11-5 with a guy who hasn't started since high school.
The New England Patriots are a system that wins, whether or not Tom Brady is there.
If they just weren't so smug and douchey about it I might even be a fan. - enjo13, on 12/28/2008, -1/+6A franchise tag means they have to pay Cassell the average of the salary of the 5 highest paid QB's in the league.
That's a TON of money for a potential backup.
Either you keep Brady or you keep Cassell, you can't have both. - Ajajadude, on 12/29/2008, -0/+4His team was great last year. Previous years? They were a bunch of nobodies who happened to be on the same team as Brady and Vinatieri (I hate spelling his name). Prior to last year, Brady had talented receivers, sure, but the moment those receivers left for bigger and better contracts, they became mediocre. With the arsenal of receivers at Brady's disposal last year, we saw what a great QB can do. We also saw what a great WR (Moss) can do when he has someone like Brady throwing to him.
And, no, Brady probably wouldn't be able to enjoy the success he had if he were on some other lackluster teams. - nrvous250gt, on 12/28/2008, -1/+5Patriots have won multiple superbowls, Sox multiple series...the Celtics won it all last year and are on their way this year as well...oh and the Bruins are the best team in the NHL. So yeah, good call.
- jsavage58, on 12/28/2008, -2/+6Put a fork in him. He's done
- pixelate, on 12/28/2008, -2/+5I'm digging down all of the irrational anti-Brady hate comments, but I am comfortable with the idea of Bernard Pollard occupying his own special circle of hell. Maybe I'm just a bad person.
- inactive, on 12/28/2008, -1/+4He better get it while he can because if anyone thinks that relationship will last any longer than snow in Miami in August...they are dreaming.
- jc730, on 12/28/2008, -0/+3I'm pretty sure at one point or another every NFL team has lost a good player to an injury so I don't really see how that makes sense unless God hates all of the NFL.
- theragu40, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3no he isn't
- inactive, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3true. but they apparently need him to make the playoffs.
- davewashere, on 12/29/2008, -0/+3Gotta love the comments from people who clearly don't follow football. The Giants may or may not go down (they have a first round bye and home field advantage as far as they go in the playoffs), but it will not be at the hands of the Patriots, who were eliminated from playoff contention yesterday via wins by the Dolphins and Ravens.
- Claude1971, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2no that's was matt cassels' agents account
- reaper527, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2@jax
exactly. he needs to be mobile to scramble retard.
@bitmanx
i hate to agree with someone about getting rid of brady, but with complications on the knee, i would not only worry about if he will come back as good as he was (or if he would be another daunte culpepper), i would also worry about if he is more likely to injure it again. - davewashere, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2He also has to sell luxury boxes for next season.
- AmericanGunner, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2
- CraigKostelecky, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2
- theragu40, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Wait...what about the giants now? And I hardly think you can yet classify Brady as one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. His career has not yet been long enough. Has he been great thus far? Sure, but he doesn't have the longevity...and unfortunately he may never get the chance to show it.
- KDX200rider, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2Maybe Matt Cassel will be staying a Patriot for another year. Also we must consider the source here, ESPN, they can't even broadcast a simple Monday night football game.
- ncrev, on 12/28/2008, -1/+3For a moment I thought this article was written by Doogie Howser, M.D.
- ScottyAnimal, on 12/29/2008, -0/+2You think Favre is out?
- olsonea, on 12/28/2008, -0/+2$14 million, to be not so accurate.
- zioxide, on 12/29/2008, -1/+2Jonathan Kraft said that this report is false on the WBCN pregame show today.
- Claude1971, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1he reinjured his knee getting down on it to propose! Serves him right I say
- Ajajadude, on 12/28/2008, -3/+4Cassell has significantly more talent around him than Brady did when he took over. If Brady was playing this year, they wouldn't be an 11-5 team HOPING to get into the playoffs. They would have won 13-14 games and would have been a lock for the postseason.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1I know, im an ass, but this year's season has been extra entertaining due to the patriots decline, even though they went 11-5.
- aaronhoffmeyer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Oops. Patriots.
- CraigKostelecky, on 12/29/2008, -0/+1¿qué?
- satchthegreat, on 12/28/2008, -1/+2*****, sux for everybody, right? now cassel's gonna wind up staying with the patriots.
- matt.rubin, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1We MADE THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS DRINK! - Yegger, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1Jason Campbell is also a wannabe.
- BlitzTips, on 12/30/2008, -0/+1It is never easy. http://digg.com/health/Tom_Brady_s_Knee_Complicati ...
