- Trekhawk, on 12/02/2008, -1/+12Ugh. As an MSU fan...it's embarrassing that our best football alumni came within inches of shooting himself in the dick.
- hobojohnn, on 12/02/2008, -0/+10100k? That's nothing to a NFL player.
- jaywag, on 12/02/2008, -1/+11I wonder what goes through your head when you accidentially shoot yourself out in public.
"Oh God, I shot myself...maybe nobody noticed...nope, too late, everybody hit the ground...maybe if I go down on the ground, too, they'll think it was somebody else...*****, I'm bleeding...bleeding all over the place...all over...maybe they'll think somebody shot me...except there's no bullet hole in my pants...*****...just blood gushing out down my pant leg...*****...***** ***** *****...I'm ok, walk it off...walk it off...*falls over*...*****...***** man *****...***** I can't walk...***** and I'm going to get arrested for possession of a concealed weapon...*****..." - MMP33, on 12/02/2008, -0/+63 1/2 years is the mandatory minimum sentence for a Class C felony in the state of New York. If he is convicted or pleads guilty, Burress has to spend at least three 1/2 years in jail - minimum. Anything other than a not guilty verdict or a guilty plea to a lesser charge and Burress is going to prison.
- m8ymerc1, on 12/02/2008, -0/+6Apparently the hospital he went to for the injury is now under investigation for not reporting the the incident and trying to hide it.
- scheibs14, on 12/02/2008, -0/+4How you gonna pay that Randy?
Straight cash homie - MapShatter, on 12/02/2008, -3/+7Why is it that in New York it is a crime to bear a pistol?
I can understand bringing it to an alcohol-serving business is condemned, and I can see why a concealed carry license is needed, but 3-3.5 years as a MINIMUM for owning a pistol? Does the state of New York or Michael Bloomberg give any consideration to our rights as Americans? - TheJimid, on 12/02/2008, -1/+5Hows that GIANT hole in your leg.....
- harrisbradley, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3I wrote in Ron Paul. I told myself I would only vote for someone I truly wanted to be president, and I would never ever compromise my presidential vote again. If anyone actually supported Ron Paul EVER, and then voted for Obama, they were either fooled in a major way, or they are actually a fool themselves.
- Poseur117, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3I just have this sinking feeling that this will be the next NFL story I simply can't get the hell away from.
- ScottMitchell, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3When you've got two bruising running backs, a quarterback at his pinnacle, a better than average tight end, a good coach, and a great defense, I could be on the Giant's receiving team and they'd still have a helluva good shot at winning it all.
If they can avoid a spate of injuries they'll be playing deep into January for sure. - AWBoy666, on 12/02/2008, -2/+5It's the left-wing headquarters of the US. 85% of Manhattan voted for Obama, the highest percentage of any county in the US.
Of course they do not respect the right to own firearms. - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+4Works wonders I see.
- harrisbradley, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3At first I think of how stupid Plaxico is, and then the Ron Paul side of me goes, you're going to put someone in jail for three and a half years of their life because they had a fire arm of some sorts? It boggles the mind how years of peoples' lives get thrown down the toilet for stuff like that.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XZDzOGFXts
- netant, on 12/02/2008, -0/+3Even worse, sanctimonious Bloomberg wants the book thrown at Burress. Any chance of cutting a plea deal with the DA has pretty much evaporated.
- SPRFRKR, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2You really only have to pay 10%, or $10K, of the bail to get out using a bail bond. So whenever they give a number, it is really only 1/10 of that to post bond and walk out the door.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -7/+9As a Giants fan.. on one hand I think the whole situation is hilarious. I mean the dude came within millimeters of blowing his sack off, blowing his knee off, or tearing through an artery. And on the other it saddens me because he had sick talent and had hoped that he wouldn't go down the path of being a self serving idiot. Either way, it was time for him to go, and they don't need him. Hixon is more than up to the task to helping his team earn another ring.
18-1 - groberts1980, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Seriously, that's about, what, a 3rd quarter's worth of pay to an NFL star?
- bustabinary, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3Just imagine how WVU fans feel about their football alumni (Pacman Jones, Chris Henry, ...)
- lupka, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3"blowing his sack off"
LOL - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3his one job as a professional athlete off the field is to protect his body and he literally shoots himself in the leg... retard
- ScottMitchell, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2@mike17032: It does. If guns could be carried legally there would likely be many more such incidents. Your reasoning is flippant and specious. There are laws against murder, yet there are still murders. Does that mean the laws are useless or misdirected?
- AWBoy666, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Bravo. Good man! I see too many people on here contradicting their political views since they don't pay attention to the issues.....just the person.
- benhollister, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2In all fairness:
- Did you really think Saban wanted to stay here? We would have had to pay him too much and probably would have been a bitch about it. We have the right coach for this university right now.
- As much as that game hurts me (I was there, I drank my self to sleep that night...), Braylon is a ridiculous athlete. And we have NEVER had any DBs.
- Getting to 5-1 and imploding is stupid for two reasons: How easy is it to get to 5-1? You have to NOT lose to four ***** non-conference schools, and then win one of two Big Ten games. And two: our days of season long implosions are over (we do it one game at a time now, OSU, PSU).
- Is the Capital One Bowl a podunk bowl now?
www.walmartwolverines.com - playuhh, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2Nobody asked you to read my commentary. Nor does it affect your life in any way. Do you realize what you said is pretty damn douchey?
Because BAIL is actually involved? I thought I was being clever? I failed? It happens? Off topic? I'm relating dollar values? you got a severe bitching/moaning problem with that? - AddiX, on 12/02/2008, -2/+4As a NYer im damn happy you cant carry a concealed weapon. You know how many angry people walk around this city everyday? You know how many times Ive seen verbal confrontations over *****? Ive seen people in the most police infested places like MSG pull out knives. So to you gun right retards, go ***** yourselves.
Im a Gmen fan, but ***** him. He wants to go to the clubs and get drunk and drop his gun and shoot himself, then he deserves whatever he gets. Dude just got a huge contract, if he needs protection, hire someone. Or better yet, stay out of the clubs and don't wear all that jewelry. This is stupidity at its best. What if he shot someone else by mistake? - pkon, on 12/02/2008, -1/+33 1/2 years? Doubt it, with a guilty plea he'll get a much lesser punishment.
- shitballs, on 12/02/2008, -0/+2for someone who has a family to think about i dont know why hes going into clubs where he needs a gun. He should have stayed home if he felt like he was in danger. Hes too old for this ***** and he should know better. I wish he did shot himself in the dick.
- netant, on 12/02/2008, -1/+3I bet you 2nd amendment zealots cannot even see the irony of "how he got caught" or why idiots should not be packing heat.
I appreciate the 2nd amendment like anyone else, but carrying concealable firearm in an urban packed place like NYC is begging for collateral damage. Hell, we have licensed firearm carriers called police who will mistake a guy with a wallet with a gun, empty a clip of 10 bullets, reload, and STILL miss half of their shots at 6 yards??? Now I'm going to trust you 2nd amendment yahoos to never miss?
The 2nd amendment was put in place so a "well regulated militia" could protect the community from an external threat, such as the federal gov't. Handguns are not going to accomplish that. - immatellyouwhat, on 12/02/2008, -1/+2As another Giants fan I say we don't need him Hixon and Toomer did great against the Redskins this past week, I think this team has shown that ALL the players work hard and stand up when needed. We lost Barber, Strahan, Shockey and still won the Suberbowl. Then we lost Osi for the season and now Burress yet we keep winning games and playing great football. And yes 18-1 ( not like the Patriots 18-1 ) hahaha
- Trekhawk, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1I sense a Wolverine in the room who hasn't gotten over losing to "Little Brother" yet.
- AWBoy666, on 12/02/2008, -3/+4 I carry precisely because the law allows it. While I think NYC is ridiculous in terms of its carry laws, Buress was carrying while drinking and without a permit. He should rot in jail. As such, since I'm a huge concealed carry permit supporter (and carry openly here in Tennessee), I am very happy to see Buress being prosecuted for his illegal actions just like me.
- AWBoy666, on 12/02/2008, -1/+2Just wondering, did you vote for Obama? If yes, you do realize that he would love for those laws to be federal so we'd all go to jail for owning guns for that long......
- crunchdigg, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1it's not. nice NRA spin attempt. It's not illegal to own the gun, so your claim of
"3-3.5 years as a MINIMUM for owning a pistol" is complete crap. As you noted,
he had a concealed weapon in a place that was serving alcohol. But the filed
charges are:
it's illegal to "possess a loaded firearm with the intent to use it unlawfully against another"
(shoot someone at a club, just in case it was necessary)
it's illegal to "possess a loaded firearm outside his home or place of business"
except for shooting ranges etc.
those are the charges. - ScottMitchell, on 12/02/2008, -5/+6"Why is it that in New York it is a crime to bear a pistol?"
Perhaps to prevent people from shooting themselves (or others), purposefully or by accident? - UselessTrivia, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1He's done whether he comes back or not. Even if he makes it back he's too far down the dark side to turn it around. He'll still refuse to practice or attend training camps. He won't keep up with his physical therapy. His team doesn't need him and he'll only stay on the roster because of his contract.
Good luck getting another 11 million guaranteed for 2009. - Atario, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1That reminds me, I've got to sell my position in Plaxico Burress. The share price has peaked for sure.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+2I lived in NYC and now in LV. As long as your registered and don't conceal your pistol, you can carry it anywhere. Can even apply for a concealed weapons permit. There are plenty of stupid, reckless people here (especially on the road), and we don't have shootings happening everyday (unlike in NYC). In some NYC neighbors almost everyone within a gang (ages 12-20) carries some sort of pistol. The pistol ban isn't working right. Rat race NYC and it's ass backwards ways are going to continue to bring it down.
- owls27, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1As a Cowboys fan, you will need him in the playoffs.
- A2007HokieAlumn, on 12/02/2008, -1/+2I believe it was not a registered / licensed pistol...but I may be wrong...
- rayjitsu, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Lawrence Phillips, Pacman, Ricky Williams, and R Jay Soward can now welcome a new member to their NFL Moron Club.
- netant, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1He deliberately broke the law, and he demonstrated the "justification" for the no-carry law. And then lets examine what happened.
He was drinking when carrying the firearm, he did not know how to SECURE his weapon. When his weapon was dropped, it discharged into his leg. Which means he had a bullet in the chamber, and probably did not have the safety engaged. Why on earth should people be carrying firearms if they don't know how to use them, secure them, or apply common sense when carrying them? - xam217, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1Hoodrat.
- owls27, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1as I recall it was his franchise playoff record of 11 receptions for 150+ yards against GB to put them into the super bowl and then the game winning touchdown in that game. You will see. Their 210 pass yards per game is 16th in the NFL right now and last time I checked the second leading in TD receptions this year was Plax. I hope that running game can survive after 17 weeks... It's not ignorance!
- netant, on 12/02/2008, -2/+2As a NYC resident, I'm pretty peeved I'm not allowed to own a rifle. A calculated violation of the 2nd amendment, in my opinion.
As a former Suffolk county resident, I'm pretty pissed they outlawed handguns. They are much better suited for home defense than a rifle.
Finally, as a NY resident, its pretty ridiculous that I can't fire at someone who has broken into my home, unless he's waving a firearm. I'm supposed to let him attack me because he doesn't have a gun? I'm supposed to call the police, wait 3-10 minutes, while he's ransacking my house?
But I have ZERO problems with not allowing firearm carry in NYC, LI, Albany, and probably Buffalo (never been there). Too many stupid people with an excuse to miss their target. - istor, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1No, no we won't. Are all Cowboys fans as ignorant about football? Maybe you're all in denial over the fact that it's unlikely you'll make the playoffs. Don't be sad though, that's a good thing. This way you won't be bounced out in the first round... again.
- MojaveOnline, on 12/02/2008, -0/+0NOTE: The NFL personnel conduct policy, which came into effect in 2007, empowers the commissioner to regulate the behavior of all persons associated with the league.
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+1Hand-guns could accomplish that. Also, even with the gun ban, Burress was still able to acquire a pistol.
All this law does is limit the law abiding citizens while leaving the reckless to obtain weapons through blackmarkets. If everyone has a weapon and the training along with it, gun related encounters would be limited to accidents (like this), sport (legal shooting games), and the criminally insane. Most that are criminally insane would be able to get a weapon regardless of laws anyway. -
