- mecharabbit, on 01/23/2009, -0/+39It's just like the 2003 college national championship game, where McGahee tried to ruin Ohio State's fun by bending his leg sideways and blowing up his knee.
- iceman0113, on 01/23/2009, -17/+48A little too soon to be making fun of him...
- tonycomputerguy, on 01/23/2009, -1/+19Just because you don't understand the joke doesn't mean it's "Too soon" or "In poor taste". He's not dead, he's not paralyzed, what's the problem? It's more of a slam on Steelers fans than on McGahee anyway.
Thanks Onion, keep it up.
Offended people, don't worry, my 1st day on the internet was rough too! Eventually, you'll realize that everything is fair game here. You'll get desensitized to it eventually. - dannyboy3020, on 01/23/2009, -1/+14Is there a set amount of time before it is appropriate to make jokes of this? I would understand if he was seriously injured, but he wasn't. He's just fine.
- skin, on 01/23/2009, -2/+12I don't understand all this too soon talk. While at the time it looked more violent and scary than most, it ended up just being another one of the dozens of concussions that occur in the NFL every season.
- Kornstalx, on 01/23/2009, -0/+9The hit they're talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGRFqOipcTg - mazurkfsflip8, on 01/23/2009, -10/+18i dont get why this is funny.
- dragtre, on 01/23/2009, -0/+7I really don't get all these "too soon" comments. It's not like he's in critical condition or something. He later said he's absolutely fine.
- mwalker05, on 01/23/2009, -1/+7how thoughtless to ignore the standard waiting period before making fun of a sports injury. for those of you not familiar with this rule, this is why the clips on americas funniest home videos are always from 1999
- SgtQuackers, on 01/23/2009, -4/+10Oh come on people that was funny. Its a joke, give it a rest and find your sense of humor.
- mwalker05, on 01/23/2009, -4/+9too soon? its a sports injury. if you are really offended by this you need to relax a little bit. i mean if this is over the line then please never watch a show called America's Funniest Home Videos. I have a feeling you will think its pure evil.
- roxgod666, on 01/23/2009, -3/+8Wow, Onion actually let this ***** get published? If you're going to make fun of him, at least make it funny. Now the writer looks like an unfunny douchbag instead of a regular douchebag
- j00sux, on 01/23/2009, -2/+5What is this the QQ club? Feeling pity doesn't help anyone. Have you ever laughed at a break.com video?
- tonynf89, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3what a dick
- tonynf89, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2soft as *****.
- dragtre, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3He's absolutely fine now. It's just a lighthearted poke at him to get a chuckle or two - nothing serious.
- momomathew, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I have the DVD of that game. I still can't watch that hit.
- mwalker05, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2i understand how serious the situation could have been, but if your life is so high strung that you take offense to a joke made about a football player who ended up being fine, i pity you.
- billjimbob, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I ***** love The Onion. There is always a little bit of truth in what they say. I'm a Steelers fan, and I was so pumped up that we were kicking the Ravens' asses. Then McGahee got hurt, and it really did put a damper on everything. On one hand, I wanted to scream that we were winning, but on the other hand, it puts things into perspective.
- bbeep, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3So WRONG, yet so funny.
- tonynf89, on 01/23/2009, -2/+3He just has a really sore neck, he's going to be fine. This is totally game.
- tonynf89, on 01/23/2009, -2/+3Let's all hope Goodell puts an end to this kind of behaviour.
- fugularity, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I can't believe so many people think this is "too soon" or "tasteless"...as a Steelers fan, even I understand that this is making fun of US and not McGahee...jesus you morons...
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -2/+3Regardless, it wasn't really funny.
- TrashyMoped, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Watch the replay...
That rigamortis like stiffness in his arm, instantly after the hit is a huge sign of brain trama - RascalKing, on 01/23/2009, -6/+7Doesn't matter who you root for, that isn't funny.
- MikeDirntRulez, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1While old, I found this article humorous:
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/tony_r ... - flamesrule, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2It's too soon because it was such a violent impact. He's lucky to be walking and that it's only a concussion. There have been a lot of bad accidents Remember Kevin Everett? He sustained a fracture and dislocation of his cervical spine and it was diagnosed as life-threatening the next day. He's damn lucky to be alive and even luckier to be walking.
Did you even see the reaction of the players after the hit? Not just the Ravens but the Steelers as well. Football is a lot rougher than you think and players have to be fearless and don't like to be reminded of what could happen to them. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Utley
McGahee has already been seriously injured before and making fun of him getting injured again is just wrong. - yankjenets, on 01/23/2009, -2/+3While it is slightly inappropriate, you either need to work on your internet sarcasm or your reading comprehension skills.
- inactive, on 01/24/2009, -0/+1hey, losing consciousness is no excuse for dropping the ball!
- flyingclutchman, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1man you must be one hardcore steelers fan
- convergent, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2His life could have ended right there on the field, what are you talking about? Sorry, but you're obviously trying way too hard.
- maqikelefant, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Oh The Onion you glorious bastards.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -2/+3that pussy didnt even get hit that hard. plus he was perfectly fine.
- flyingclutchman, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Usually the Onion has like ridiculous stories but just believable enough, I guess the writer must be a Steelers fan.
- TimDigg, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1too soon...
some dark humor from the onion? hmm a little tasteless to me.. - tonynf89, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1was there even a concussion?
- Syric, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Too soon? I say it's too late! This is no longer even relevant! The Onion used to be a respectable journalistic institution.
- pyxen, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Oh Onion.. you got me good.
- bales, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1QQ? I mean, I hate to see anyone get hurt, but would this have any relevance a year from now? Is that where you would draw the line? How about 10 yrs from now?
But yeah, the story wasn't all that funny. I just find the fact that they went there to be hilarious. - zhaojon, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1POW! Right in the kissa!
He got leveled and it was awesome. - tonycomputerguy, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Yeah, how dare they rip on those Steelers fans so soon after winning the championship. Shame on you onion!
Ignorance may be bliss, but without a sense of humor, apparently.
Even if he WAS seriously injured, the joke is poking fun at the FANS, THE ONES WHO BOOED WHEN HE GOT HURT, NOT THE PLAYER FFS! <facepalm> - kdogg93, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1thats what you call knocked the f out
- mojoro23, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0Just turn on the television, it's all fake.
- AirNike, on 01/26/2009, -0/+0GO ARIZONA
- corefx, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0Buried because of all of you.
If you saw the game, he moved his arms and legs fine. He got hit hard and most likely disoriented. - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0legal tackle?
If the player was paralyzed then everyone would be screaming the truth...illegal cheap hit that was meant to inflict damage just like taking out a player knees ...heck that didn't even look like a fumble,he lost control as he lost consciousness. - mojoro23, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0Hehehehehehe!
- wojtyk, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0You must be trolling. I'm a Ravens fan and even I can admit that was a legal tackle.
For one thing, McGahee actually lowered himself _into_ the helmet when the expected hit was coming in.
At any rate, the Ravens deserved to lose that game the way the offense was being run.
"Run, run, playaction-50-yard-pass, run, run, playaction-50-yard-pass" gets a bit one-dimensional after 4 quarters.
Is it any wonder that the _one_ time he opened up the playbook with a double reverse and some varied pass plays, they managed to score? -
