- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+21How the hell are the Redskins planning on making up the 13 yards per season they just sent packing?
- arigneysd, on 11/26/2008, -0/+17he is a classic case of the madden curse.
- purseonality, on 11/26/2008, -0/+14Even so, Seattle could only improve if he came back this direction. Sigh. It's a sad year to be a Seahawks fan.
- AmyVernon, on 11/25/2008, -0/+12From MVP to "insurance."
- ahoy, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6clinton portis baby, he'll play on crutches! he'd be this season's mvp if it werent for favre and drew brees
- RobbieS, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4WTF subby? That was the pic you chose for this story? Why pic the ESPN video picture, and not the...Shaun Alexander picture?
- Barbarino, on 11/26/2008, -2/+5Dude had 1 good season.. overrated! I think the Broncos have figured out the whole RB situation, just don't pay them big money because you can always find a 1000 yard back working at your local post office..
- oozoo, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3Pick him up Cowboys! Now that Felix Jones is out for the season, we need some good insurance.
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3Welllllllll Brett Favre is doing well with the Jets....
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4It'll be even sadder after tomorrow's game. ;)
- Scrappy1850, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2he was cheap insurance when both betts and portis were banged up. they said he was leaving when they got heathly. they got healthy and now he is leaving. he did exactly what he was asked. when injuries occur the daniel ALWAYS goes out and gets the best available replacement. we are lucky to have such a great owner. just ask the bengals and raiders.
- LowRentDiggs, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2I'm a big Shaun Alexander fan and I think his injuries are legit but he isn't one of those guys who worked out like crazy to get back in top playing condition. I'm not his trainer so it's purely a guess, but he never seemed like the type of guy who stayed in great shape and did everything needed to give himself the best shot at longevity.
- krazytom, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2...and Warner
- MattFromSeattle, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3We loved and supported him, in spite of his arrogance, here in Seattle until 2005 when he took soul credit for his numbers. He didn't say a word about his supporting offensive linemen that opened up the holes for him and made his giant contract possible. He didn't say a word as those same linemen were traded and cut to pay for his contract. Once he made it clear that he thought he alone was able to put up the numbers, that's when the fans here started to turn on him. I was happy to see him go and only wish we could have done it after the 2005 fiasco. Good riddance!
- jbeardsl, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Thank goodness they finally cut him. He adds no value whatsoever to the team. The team needed the roster spot for any number of other positions, especially D-line. They've had way too many people who *could* contribute on the inactive list, and this guy active and providing nothing. Once Portis and Betts were back from injuries two weeks ago, keeping him around made no sense - they already have 3 backs (Portis, Betts, Cartright) who all have proven they can carry the ball when asked. All of them are better than Alexander. I really wish Danny would get over Vinny and get someone in the front office that could provide better leadership there.
- Birdoftruth, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1uhh no thanks we're fine with marion barber.
- Ribbys, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1He had more than one good year, c'mon now.
- hybridcreation, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Take it from a Jags fan...that d-line is nothing to fear anymore.
- mlvassallo, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1I'm a Seattle fan and I really like the guy. I feel like I am in the minority. Every player declines, but Shaun is still pretty classy. I think he got a bad break from the media because when he was doing well he wasn't like T.O. or Clinton Protis or Ocho Cinco- he doesn't sell Papers or TV Spots. Sure he had the "stabbed in the back" comment at the end of the '03 season, but after that he played up to and beyond his potential until the injuries set in.
Seattle's GM is the one to blame for letting Hutchinson go. A west coast offense is only as good as its QB and Offensive line. When Hutch left the O-line was never the same. - joobojesse, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1It's the economy
- J16T3CH, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1If his good buddy Zorn didn't keep him, I think its safe to say he won't suit up again.
Thanks for the good times Shaun! - tdwester, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1It just shows you how good Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson were together on the left side of the line.
- pnmoore, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Alexander was never a flashy player, even in college, he just got it done...until he signed the big contract.
I sincerely hope it is coincidence that his skills apparently just started going away after the contract signing, but it is so typical of the modern pro athlete. Show something, get paid and then cruise. Not saying they are all that way, but too many are. - wmute, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1there's still time for him to have his career ended in the next few days. He goes up against:
Jevon Kearse
Mario Williams
The Jacksonville D-Line
The Bears Defense
AND
a chance to be the only team to lose to the Detroit Lions, if they're still winless at week 17.
I say, those are the ingredients for an imminent curse. - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1I was going to blame Bush
- clickmyface, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1I don't know about that, it looks like we got rid of him just in time. Either way, you can't expect Seattle to do well with this many injuries. We had a great run these last couple of years. It's just disturbing that UW, WSU, Mariners, and Seahawks have all had some of their worst years.
Apple Cup was a pretty good game though (sans cougar victory). Seattle U has gone D-1 and plays Layola January 1st at the key, thats exciting. Not a bad team, either. Plus, we get football on thanksgiving!!! - jbeardsl, on 11/27/2008, -0/+1I agree with the need at the time. The need ended 2 weeks ago, and there's other people they could have used on the active list instead of him. That said, Rock is a better runner and should have gotten any carries that might have gone to Alexander anyway.
And I'm not knocking Danny, in general. While he's not perfect, as you note he sure could be a whole lot worse. But the one area he still needs to figure out is front office. Vinny is not the answer IMO. - shadyrudy, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1He is 31 and so am I. How can someone my age be washed up? But you are right. The RB by committee has been working for them for years now.
- hybridcreation, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Classic case of "take the money and run". Yeah, he had that foot injury in '06, but plenty of other players have come back from worse injuries than that. Willis McGahee anyone? He got paid and quit...end of story.
- adventflux, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1But he appeared as a Packer, maybe that's the loop hole? You do well after being on the cover of Madden if the team you played on for 16 good years didn't let you come out of retirement.
- elister, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1TOGA TOGA TOGA!!
holgatehawks.com :)
If you cant win the games, might as well toga. - bpm2000, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1sad year to be a washington sports fan in general... no sonics, huskies are terrrrible, seahawks are terrrrrible, husky bball isnt living up to the hype... at least we got a new team in the Seattle Mist.
- Br3ach, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Honestly not too surprised. He was good at his peak, but as all runner's after years of physical abuse his body just isnt what it used to be.
- jonjonblazezany, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1He was cut to make room for Brian Basetti or Bascetti a d-line men to sure up our d-line that's been taking some hits and not rushing or sacking the Quaterback we got enough running backs that aren't 30 something
- Br3ach, on 11/26/2008, -0/+1Yeah that is a true statement. But understandable, as either Hasslebeck is out or our best backs are out, they have had no consistency on the offense and they are totally out of sync. Defense also has several injuries. I think in the end they are just a beat up team all the way around, not sure if Holmgren's departure is puting a vice on the season as well.
- revjustin2, on 11/26/2008, -1/+1No, no, no. Shaun Alexander is an underachiever. We have enough risky players on the team as it is. Please pass on picking this guy up, Jerry Jones.
- cadmiumpaint, on 11/26/2008, -1/+1the Icky Woods of the 2000's...minus the shuffle.
- inactive, on 11/29/2008, -0/+0It's sad that so many great running backs slow down -- or break down altogether -- after a few seasons. It's really a Catch-22, because a running back typically can't cash in on a big contract without putting up monster numbers, but those monster numbers take a lot of carries, and those carries quickly take their toll. It's tough to blame players for wanting a new contract after a breakout season, especially because NFL contracts aren't guaranteed.
- wmute, on 11/26/2008, -0/+0well, not jevon kearse. i mean, julius peppers
- mlvassallo, on 11/26/2008, -1/+1Seattle works some kind of funky magic against the Cowboys. I'm hoping for something crazy to happen like another Romo collapse.
- khoa1708, on 11/26/2008, -3/+2retire already...
- turtlegroove, on 11/26/2008, -2/+0Were this guys injuries legit or is he a dog? Im sure he got injured, but I wonder if his drive to get back waned after he signed his big contract. We have a dog of a RB here in New England known as Lawrence Maroney. The guy gets "injured" every week. I think Belichick finally had enough of him and sat him.
- ratbear, on 11/26/2008, -5/+2I smell upset over the putrid Cowboys.
- Morrison1002, on 11/26/2008, -4/+1i know who your talking about. when I played madden 07 on the psp i got him and he did really well and im like this guys kicks ass. I did a fantasy draft and got him. and then i saw him in the super bowl with the patriots i was like whoa. thats my running back
- ahoy, on 11/26/2008, -7/+3no, he just sucks.
- MeatMountain, on 11/26/2008, -7/+1I always hated this guy.
