- MikalYungHistri, on 10/27/2009, -1/+12Or maybe he would have been shot instead. Please shutup.
- bronsonman, on 10/27/2009, -4/+12Hey what a shock, the suspects are all townies and have absolutely nothing to do with the school. That these townies use these colleges as a means of partying and conflict is ridiculous. The guy lives 30 miles away and has no reason in the world to be on campus. I def remember the townies from my undergrad and we'd stay away from certain places on certain nights to avoid them cuz they would just be itchin to start a fight with the college kids.
- entrepreneur75, on 10/27/2009, -0/+7Hopefully justice will be served.
- titoelgato, on 10/27/2009, -0/+5crazy world
- FirstCuts, on 10/27/2009, -0/+4The good news is that, hopefully, the person responsible is in custody and he won't have the opportunity to do it again.
- bronsonman, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3ha, i am being dugg down by townies! but seriously, all these schools should have closed campuses like my undergrad, there was no reason for those people to be on the UConn campus, none whatsoever.
- ohplease, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Everyone should have nuclear weapons on their person, this would make the world even safer.
- spiderman0505, on 10/27/2009, -2/+5It's unreal that it took this long to find someone to charge. RIP Jasper.
- paulvq, on 10/27/2009, -1/+4Look, I'm all for carrying firearms for self-defense, but to blame this guy for his own death because he didn't carry a gun is completely ridiculous. Not to mention, I believe he was on school grounds where it's illegal to have guns in the first place.
- paulvq, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2Is it your job to make unfunny sarcastic comments?
- coltrane68, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2This is so far from a townies/college kids issue. In Connecticut, 30 miles is half the width of the state. Bloomfield is a blue collar suburb of Hartford and is nowhere near Storrs, where UConn is.
- gizram84, on 10/27/2009, -2/+4why don't we just ban knives already? clearly this knife had a murderous passion. at least lets start by banning assault knives.
- Greensheep11, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1RIP Jazz. UConn misses you.

- gizram84, on 10/27/2009, -2/+3we do have evidence that gun bans do nothing except increase murder rates though:
look it even comes from the liberal bible, huffpo:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tim-taliaferro/chica ...
"What's clear from the 27 years it has been in existence is that Chicago's ban does not work the way it was intended. It makes it harder for the public to get handguns, but not for criminals to get them." Perfectly stated.. I can't believe I agree with something from huffpo.
http://www.learnaboutguns.com/2008/08/09/chicago-m ... - inactive, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1what happened to the good old days when people just fought with their fists?
- DreKor, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2Have we seen evidence of armed societies being safer? Anywhere? If somebody could back that up it'd be great.
- shyner, on 10/27/2009, -2/+3Need to go to work so couldn't find time to locate a great website on it, but you can google it from here...
"In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council in Georgia voted unanimously to pass a law that requiring all heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition.
The ordinance states the gun law is needed to “protect the safety, security and general welfare of the city and its inhabitants.”
Amazingly, Kennesaw Historical Society president Robert Jones said after the law passed, the crime rate in the city dropped 89 percent. Compare that huge drop to the modest 10 percent drop statewide in Georgia and you have a pretty bizarre statistic." - russ3, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1My apartment lease bans knives, and when i asked them how I should cook they said that it was for stabbing knives, so I asked if that meant i could only have butter knives and how I would cut my bread and they told me that knives were okay. When I told them I throw knives and practice when I go out camping they told me that was okay as long as i do not use them on their property. Anyway, the punchline is that I move into the apartment and in the wall are three cuts that could clearly only be from throwing knives in the wall.
- ruckfules, on 10/28/2009, -0/+0When was that exactly?
- reptarman, on 10/27/2009, -2/+2Why are people angered when murderers commit suicide? Is that not better than them facing a trial and jail sentence. I would rather this man have pulled the murder-suicide combo.
- DreKor, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1The common thread in the societies where crime has dropped is not armament, but homogeneity. Kennesaw, Switzerland, and Sweden all have armed citizens, but more importantly, those citizens are all very similar in race, creed, and economic status.
Other armed societies include DRC, Colombia, Iraq, and Israel. - ElysianGold, on 10/27/2009, -0/+0You do realize that a lot of college campuses are smack in the middle of the city they're located in right? Like my current school West Virginia University, and my former school the University of Tennessee. Both of those campuses are mixed right in with the rest of town. So you can't really say "hey you can't be over here 'cause there are school buildings around" when there's a public bar right next to the physics building...
- aosmitty, on 10/27/2009, -0/+0Death is just an easy out.
I want them to rot in jail with nowhere to go and nothing to do but drop the soap in the shower. Death is too good for some people.
<inserts 1,001 other reasons to be anti-death penalty> - bronsonman, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1a knife is a weapon too genius.
- inactive, on 10/27/2009, -1/+0Wow thank god we have inoscent until proven guilty...
- coltrane68, on 10/27/2009, -2/+11. Israel is one of the safest countries in the world. One can walk around in a city or town at almost any time.
2. Citizens do not walk around armed. Police and army personnel do.
3. Army personnel walk around armed, because the threat of terrorism is so real. - ldsan, on 10/27/2009, -3/+0did i make a faux pas?
- reptarman, on 10/27/2009, -6/+1It's even crazier when you're trippin on acid.
- reptarman, on 10/27/2009, -6/+1One can only hope. Yet with our court system, I wouldn't be surprised if this guys gets a slap on the wrist due to some technical loophole.
- reptarman, on 10/27/2009, -9/+1It's very real. It actually happened.
- ldsan, on 10/27/2009, -10/+0this is the best xkcd ever!
- reptarman, on 10/27/2009, -13/+2An armed society is a safe society. If Jasper had a pistol, he'd still be living.
