- electricwaffles, on 01/03/2009, -1/+24I bet the players are pissed about this. The reward for getting to the Pro Bowl used to be a sweet vacation to Hawaii. Now, it's a... trip to Dallas.
- sjbdallas, on 01/03/2009, -0/+22Just a note to those not from Texas: it's no Hawaii -- especially in January.
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/03/2009, -0/+10I'm a huge NFL fan...been watching it for over 15 years, and i've never once watched the Pro Bowl. Its the biggest who cares waste of time. The game has no significance and the season in my mind is already over at that point.
- Daryl209, on 01/04/2009, -0/+9They can have it in my backyard for all I care.....not gonna watch it anyways.
- EvilJelloMan, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7FTA: "With the new 2010 schedule, he said, players from the two Super Bowl teams would be excluded from the Pro Bowl. That would give the players more rest and reduce the chances that they could get injured. "
Well that's about *****. The two teams in the super bowl should arguably be the two best teams in the league, and thus have a number of players that belong in the all-star game. To schedule said game in such a way that it becomes necessary to exclude players from your top two teams seems a little ass backwards to me. - EvilJelloMan, on 01/03/2009, -1/+8Gotta make the playoffs to win a playoff game...
GO EAGLES! - FriedTurkey, on 01/03/2009, -1/+7The Pro Bowl sucks ass. I am huge NFL fan and I can't stand the Pro Bowl. It is like a glorified flag football game.
- Daryl209, on 01/03/2009, -1/+6Go ahead if you want to....make sure you use a condom....who knows where Tony Romo has been lately....
- zetec, on 01/04/2009, -1/+5Says you. It's 85F and sunny here in DFW today. (little freaky, actually.)
- turbodiesel, on 01/04/2009, -0/+4They used to play the Pro Bowl in LA, and Rams season ticket owners were forced to buy Pro Bowl tickets as part of their package, and the same will probably hold true for the Cowboys.
Sounds like Ol' Jerry is making another money grab from the fans of America's Team. - asgardshill, on 01/03/2009, -2/+6I'm just a little mystified how the mayor is only 90 percent sure about this. I thought the NFL had already announced that the Pro Bowl would be played in the same city where the Super Bowl is played the week before the SB, in an attempt to both boost interest in the PB and keep people from losing interest during the two-week break before the SB.
From everything I've seen, the new stadium is going to be a palace. But yes, moving the game from Hawaii to Texas is a step down. - jacobjohnson, on 01/04/2009, -0/+4no thats the mayor of arlington
- rabidg00se, on 01/03/2009, -1/+5A quick Googling could have really saved you some internet dignity there....http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=379873 ...
- EvilJelloMan, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4I think you need to get out of the cubicle there, buddy - all that stagnant air and fluorescent lighting must be messing up your sense of reality.
Pro sports make buckets and buckets of cash, both for the owners and the cities which cough up huge sums of cash to invest in the tourist dollars those sports will bring. - rocketman42, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4The announcement was for the 2010 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl in Miami. They have said Hawaii will still have it sometimes, so obviously they will not always be played in the same city. Basically, the NFL doesn't know what to do with their Pro Bowl and are trying different things to see what works.
- rocketman42, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3I hope David Cay Johnston has better sources than your musings. The new stadium is _partially_ funded with taxpayer money.

Public Financing: $325 million City of Arlington
Private Financing: $150 million from NFL, $525 Dallas Cowboys
So most is being paid for by either Jerry Jones or the NFL. And the part from the city was voted on by the citizens. Most large businesses get subsidies of some sort (usually tax breaks, but it can be other things as well), but that doesn't mean all those businesses are losing money and have never made a profit. - cowboy86, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3 It doesn't matter what the damned teams have done. It matters what they're doing now. I'm not a fan of any of those teams. But it seems to me that the only one that consistently makes it to the playoffs are the Eagles.
- blakelylaw580, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3LOL, I was really disappointed in yesterday's Cotton Bowl. I figured the last one in the old stadium should have been played on ice; or at least in single digit temperature. That's one thing I will really miss about moving the future games indoors.
- rupprupp29, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3Well at this rate, "America's Team" won't have the place booked for any home playoff games, so I guess they may as well use it for the Pro Bowl.
- PhillAholic, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3Yea seriously, it's the best players in football. except for the best players who were able to get their team, or work with a team to actual serve it's intended purpose. nice going NFL, no one will give a damn about the Pro Bowl this way either.
- EvilJelloMan, on 01/03/2009, -3/+6Yes, yes, because "America's team" was once good when it was filled with a bunch of drug addicts and prima donnas, it will be good for all eternity, especially if they keep hiring prima donnas and drug addicts, and throwing mountains of cash at players who consistently choke in the postseason.
The Eagles sure have a storied history, and their coaching is at times downright abysmal, but at least we had the good sense to kick that suck-ass crybaby pussy T.O. to the curb after only one season. And we still stomped your precious cowgirls into the dirt, saving them the embarrassment of another all-interceptions Romo playoff game.
The cowboys suck, and they have sucked since Aikman retired to eventually go be part of the worst commentating team in the NFL. And even when they were good, they were still a bunch of douchebags owned and run by one of the biggest douchebags in pro sports. - gabegrote, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2RTFA - No Players in the SB would be allowed to play...
- Daryl209, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I buried him at Purple Cobras!
- asgardshill, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I'll take your word for it then - I didn't pay complete attention to the announcement; just skimmed it. Thanks for the edification.
- mrtdot, on 01/03/2009, -7/+9***** THE COWBOYS!
- sjbdallas, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2It might matter to all those football players who were hoping for bikini and golf weather.
- cowboy86, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Not currently, but starting in 2010.
- meed, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I have a idea about to solve the issue about pro-bowlers who also play in the superbowl. How about adding a rule for eligibility to playing in the pro bowl:
If your team makes it to the superbowl and you are selected to go to the pro-bowl, then you don't play. The runners up for the position brought up instead. The original player who is on a superbowl team, will still be given the title of pro-bowler and the rest of the honors, but they won't play in the game itself. Still have them stand on the side lines with the rest of the team. - meed, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2The New stadium also will feature a retracting roof, meaning it won't matter what temperature it is outside.
- TexasKoz, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Arlington has a lot of work to do in order to get the area ready for the pro bowl and the Superbowl. I was driving on that part of town and that place is really tore the hell up.
The choice of the new Cowboys stadium has nothing to do with the cowboys and everything to do with money and showing off a new, state of the art facility. - da233, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2If this happens, it'll probably only be a one time thing. They'll be back to Hawaii
- sativaB, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2More like *****-hole Arlington. Street view the area on google. C-R-A-P.
- dcstriker, on 01/03/2009, -6/+8Cowboys wont win a playoff game even by then!
- Fogdelune, on 01/04/2009, -2/+4I am a Redskins fan, and therefore hate the Eagles, but hate the Cowboys even more. I loved watching the Eagles stomp them out of the playoffs.
Consider your comment dugg. - sativaB, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I live down the road from the new stadium. None of us were really looking forward to have it right in the middle of town, traffic already sucks as it is. It's a badass building though. You can see it from miles away thanks to Texas' flat lands.
- smacksaw, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Good argument, irrelevant example. Research first, claim later.
Well, your heart's in the right place. I'll give you that. - smacksaw, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2I'm glad to see them do this. I really want them to add some sort of award ceremony during the off-week. More than just "player introduction" stuff. And I'd like to see these players stick around for the Super Bowl after the Pro Bowl, especially the Super Bowl week festivities.
I don't really care all that much about the game being played. We don't need college all-first team whatever games. I mainly want to know who gets the honours. - Daryl209, on 01/04/2009, -2/+3Eagles*
- asgardshill, on 01/04/2009, -2/+3@EvilJelloMan: Evasion noted. Muahahahahaha.
- SetOverSet, on 01/05/2009, -1/+2Obviously, that was my point.... the teams going to the Super Bowl will also have the lions share of Pro Bowl players, so won't that make the whole point of the Pro Bowl pretty lame. It's pretty lame already, but it would be completely pointless if 10-20% of the rosters had to change. "Yeah, you're in kid because McNabb and Rivers are playing next week, and instead of giving the ball to the purple Jesus you'll be giving it to Jackson".
- MetalHead73, on 01/03/2009, -3/+4You're so cool. I wish I could be as original as you.
- cubicledrone, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Except for the fact that pro sports are a money loser. Just think how much easier life would be if the city of Arlington and the NFL kicked in fifty cents for every dollar in your budget. Not all that difficult to get and stay rich when someone else pays the bills.
By the way, I'm not buying the Dallas Cowboys put up $525M in cash. Not for one second. Oh, and since the voters put up about 1/3 the cost, do they get a cut of the gate and the luxury boxes?
I'll give you a hint: ***** no. - SetOverSet, on 01/04/2009, -1/+2I still haven't figured out how the NFL is going to pull off running the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl. What team in their right mind would let their players play in the Pro Bowl if they were going to play in the Super Bowl? So now we'll have a bunch of poeple who are selected for the Pro Bowl with a bunch of scrubs replacing them. I guess the TV ratings will be better than the ten people who usually watch when it's played in Hawaii though.
- gkiltz, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1let's face it, the Hawaii Vacation is a much a part of the Pro-Bowl as the helmet swap!
Dallas is simply too cold and windy in February to be much of a vacation spot, and Florida is too crowded! I don't see them moving it out of Hawaii! - pikespeakhiker, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2More importantly, is the mayor of Dallas really named Bob Cluck? That name has to be made up....
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+2I would maybe watch it in MY backyard. Throw a kegger, huge bonfire, play some cards, maybe glance over at the game between rounds. I said maybe.
- Kronos6948, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2Originally, I was gonna digg you up after the Cowboys and Celtics, then you said the Eagles, so I buried you. I take it you're a Giants fan?
- ShoeSh1ne, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Someone doesn't follow sports news.
