- Linguo, on 09/30/2008, -2/+21What about cocaine?
- diggproof, on 10/01/2008, -0/+19Sleep is a poor substitute for coffee and sugar
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -1/+186 cups a day would absolutely wreck me.
- JohnnyQwest, on 09/30/2008, -1/+17but what about adderall? that's totally ok.
- AmyVernon, on 09/30/2008, -2/+17Hmmm. Could this have been why I had major-league insomnia in college?
- lucy22, on 09/30/2008, -1/+15Coffee and sugar are my 2 main food groups!
- diggstown, on 09/30/2008, -5/+19If you need sleep, you should buy a go-cart.
- algaeturd, on 09/30/2008, -3/+14Anyone who needs to read this article to figure out why sugar and caffeine are poor substitutes for sleep deserve insomnia and diabetes. Come on. Do we really need to be reminded? Where's common sense and personal responsibility these days?
- 1RiceLt5, on 09/30/2008, -1/+10Oh no! Coffee and sugar are sustaining me at the moment. Useful article...something to note before I enter this cycle of depending on caffeine in order to stay alert.
- inevitablity, on 10/01/2008, -3/+11It's one hell of a drug!
- EllipsisAeon, on 10/01/2008, -1/+8Blasphemy!
How dare these infidels defecate the sacred and holy beans of POWER!
(i like coffee) - ryansmith18, on 09/30/2008, -1/+8The sad thing is that I know how true the article is, and how these energy drinks and several cups of coffee a day are bad for my health... but the fact remains that I can get more done during the day by living off of them and then sleeping for 14 hours on Saturday.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7depends... are you doing it off fake ***** or a tight ass?
- tbb9216, on 10/01/2008, -1/+8Do people actually believe that caffeine and sugar are replacements for sleep? I know a lot of heavy coffee drinkers, but none have ever said, "I don't need to sleep, I just had some coffee."
- Askee, on 10/01/2008, -3/+9Amphetamines > Coffee > Sugar > Sleep
- Oea420, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5replace coffee with meth and you might have yourself a sentence.
- ReptileKing234, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4That's the lamest truth site ever. Who in the world doesn't have some sort of agenda? meh. I'm going to go out and buy a bunch of rockstars just because that truth website sucked balls. If they put kittens into the drink or something; now that would be bad.
- phybere, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4What are we defining as a cup? "4" cups according to the side of the pot fit in my coffee mug that gets refilled about 3 times a day...
- rocknsk8r, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4If I ate a "small snack" every time I needed an energy boost, I would gain 5 pounds a day.
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4You can't put flames on sugar
- goffy59, on 10/01/2008, -1/+4No *****, duh. Everyone knows you need sleep. Substances are just a quick fix.
- kevlar21, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Speaking of defecating coffee beans…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak
"Kopi Luwak is the most expensive coffee in the world, selling for between $120 and $600 USD per pound" - meandnips, on 09/30/2008, -1/+4Add chocolate for a third.
- MacBookForMe, on 09/30/2008, -5/+8Amen! ...love coffee...smell...taste...experience...
just finished reading this: http://www.peachygreen.com/going-green/sustainable ... and I needed to make a large mug (and 2 spoons of sugar...don't tell to my mom, please:)
...and don't ask me how many I regularly enjoy per day... - chrisostermann, on 10/01/2008, -2/+4crack plox
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2I've said that....
- purzzzell, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2***** - I meant MONSTER's best with vodka.
***** Rockstar too...(clicks on that site) HOLY *****, MICHAEL SAVAGE? You've gotta be kidding me......
holy *****......wow.... - Oea420, on 10/01/2008, -2/+4Oh... I thought you could just stay up forever with twinkies, nodoz, and some meth....
i'm doing it wrong I guess?
Anyways... I don't get this part
"She now drinks six cups a day and is awake from 2:30 to 5:30 every morning. At this point Cutler may need the help of a doctor—and either temporary medication or cognitive-behavioral therapy sessions—to gradually get better sleep and break her dependence on coffee"
2:30 to 5:30 every morning? I don't get it lol... it could be 2:30am to 5:30pm, but that makes no sense in context of the article... 2:30am to 5:30am? wtf? Does the caffeine make her wake up early within the window? CLARIFY PLZZZZZZZZ - 13B1303, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2I am also an engineering student and work and get very very little sleep. Last week I was lucky to get 4 hrs a night during the week. People also get pissed at me for being way to happy/optimistic. Sleep and my level of happiness are not really related much. Physical activity is quite a bit though, winter sucks!
- renegadeafk, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Lies!
- upchucknorris1, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I think the part where it says "2:30 to 5:30 every MORNING" might be a good hint.
- element1ne, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Redbull! ***** Rockstar. www.thetruthaboutrockstar.com
- emt1451, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Adderall is ***** awesome.
- synystar, on 10/01/2008, -1/+3Do we really need an article on Digg to explain why caffeine and sugar do not substitute for sleep? Seriously.. after the hundreds of articles (feels like at least one every week and a half or so for the past 3 years) about how we don't get enough sleep I'd think that diggers would be would be among the laziest people on the planet.
- nmanguy, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2People didn't know this?
- MedicalMatt, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2In other news... Dr Obvious wins nobel prize for wasted grant money in "benefits of sugar vs sleep" study.
- zoydberg, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2i like my sugar with coffee and cream
- lisaawesome, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2I'm with you. I know exactly how bad my lifestyle is but I am happier and more productive than when I don't abuse caffeine. I'll take the trade off. I may change my mind when I get older but for the time being I'm stickin with my bean juice and rockstars.
- sodade, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Actually, I wasn't aware that caffeine stayed in your system for 12 hrs so I learned something I didn't know.
- ZigVicious, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2how many do you regularly enjoy per day?
- impedance101, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2its what keeps us from getting fired.
- zirtbow, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women.
- lisaawesome, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Even with coffee and energy drinks I had to stop tokin at my old job because a couple hours later I just wanted to curl up in one of the boxes and sleep.
- FLarsen, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Sugar doesn't cause diabetes, but it's a problem once you get it.
- phybere, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Yes, people actually believe it. At my place of employment they provide free coffee and energy drinks, because it keeps everyone going...
- h0ser, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1poor substitute for sleep, great substitute for cocainE!!!
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -1/+2my wife sucks me to sleep every night. Works great.
- Acqua206, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1You guys should toss those drip coffee makers and get yourself a Moka Express. It makes a poor mans espresso but I can get the equivalent of 3-4 cups of coffee in one ultra strong cup.
- trogdor282, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Exactly, it's not like sleep is something that happens spontaneously for no reason.
