- AgentRoyIV, on 10/05/2009, -0/+44Coffee is a good source of anti-oxidants AND it fights cavities? Now I don't have to feel so bad about being horribly, horribly addicted...
- davincih, on 10/05/2009, -1/+42I don't know what Ethylphenol is, but it sounds delicious.
- diggdong, on 10/05/2009, -0/+28The souls of dead black beans.
- maximo309, on 10/05/2009, -1/+28usually there's whisky in mine....
- freakFlag, on 10/05/2009, -1/+17That was the most ***** disturbing scene I've seen in a long time.
- BossKey, on 10/05/2009, -0/+16The "What's Inside..." series is one of the best parts of the magazine. What you may not know from reading just one of these is that every month they take an ordinary household product and explain the chemicals that make it work.
- ifruit, on 10/05/2009, -5/+18Drink black coffee.
- ramiro, on 10/05/2009, -2/+11Is that Jean Claude Van Damme?
- luvkit, on 10/05/2009, -0/+8Yeah, sorry, but fair trade isn't really helping coffee growers. If you want to support workers on a coffee plantation, make sure you buy a good quality coffee. Places like Starbucks do pay top dollar for good quality coffee. Stay away from Folger's and Maxwell, because they look for the cheapest coffee they can find. It's also why their coffee doesn't taste good. They mix in all the arabica beans from all over the world, and it doesn't make for the best coffee.
Fair trade coffee essentially pays top dollar for low quality coffee. You can occasionally get good fair trade coffee, but just buy good quality coffee, and you will do your part. - insanebrain, on 10/05/2009, -0/+8again ?
- TheMachine1, on 10/05/2009, -0/+7People!
- alethes1973, on 10/05/2009, -0/+7Seems like you've had too much already.
- ostracize, on 10/05/2009, -2/+9So asking poor farmers to pay an exorbitant fee to get the "fair-trade" certification is fair how?
- anarcurt, on 10/05/2009, -7/+13For that douche bag on the cellphone it also contains saliva.
- Scrappyh, on 10/05/2009, -2/+8drinking a cup right now...
- Griminald, on 10/05/2009, -1/+7"Dimethyl disulfide
A product of roasting the green coffee bean, this compound is just at the threshold of detectability in brewed java. Good thing, too, as it's one of the compounds that gives human feces its odor."
No wonder the day-old coffee in my pot smells like crap. :> - prolikewhoa, on 10/05/2009, -0/+6I like to add an extra spoonful of Acetylmethylcarbinol
- OverDriven, on 10/05/2009, -2/+7Congrats on being a passive aggressive loser who works at a coffee shop/fast food joint. Why the ***** do you care what a customer is doing? You are there to give them coffe in exchange for money. Beyond that, you can shut the ***** up and do your job.
- michelsonmorley, on 10/05/2009, -1/+6Are you the chick?
- gunit99, on 10/05/2009, -1/+5with a little cream

- Shezzadine, on 10/05/2009, -0/+3.... ah, well, that's great news there's vitamin B3 in coffee!!!
- Phocion55, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2And scotch.
- publiclurker, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2That would be Civet coffee.
- TheKillDoctor, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2It's also found in wine and beer. Yum !
- danj484, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2Intelligentsia. Fair-trade has no quality control at all.
- theCoffee, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2Obviously you have not drank real coffee, that or you have not examined the flavor well enough. Try it black and drink it slow and see what you can taste.
- TheMachine1, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2And sugar.
- cyclopropene, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2"Another good pre-test diet is foresight and prudence."
Dude. He's a stoner. Please, let's stay on topic.
The niacin in coffee won't do much for you, but the diuretic effect will help dilute your urine. You might also want to try to avoid eating Funyuns, if at all possible. - kipmarlowe, on 10/05/2009, -2/+4That was the most ***** disturbing scene I've seen in a long time.
- damnshoes, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2I eat coffee beans with milk
- danj484, on 10/05/2009, -1/+3Another good pre-test diet is foresight and prudence.
- steakum, on 10/06/2009, -0/+2And if you want an entire book on this kind of stuff, check out those written by David Bodanis. The Secret House was a fascinating read a few years ago...I'm sure he's published more since then. And get this: I emailed him thanking him for writing his books and he emailed me back! What a guy!
- silent128, on 10/05/2009, -0/+2Thought it was going to be one of those articles that tells you disgusting facts about coffee instead it makes me want to drink more... brb
- jonellison13, on 10/05/2009, -1/+3That was the most ***** disturbing scene I've seen in a long time.
- Stupidumb, on 10/05/2009, -2/+4no
- theCoffee, on 10/06/2009, -1/+2You do not get it, Overdriven.
People + Cellphones = Slow Idiots.
Coffee Shop and/or Fast Food Joint losers have to serve a lot of customers in a quick amount of time.
And that 30 seconds of time you wasted because you could not finish before getting in line could have gotten 2 more people their coffee and let them do their jobs which would have kept the line shorter.
No one cares what a customer is doing, as long as they are not disrupting business.
And if you can't accept that, you can get a cheap coffee maker at Goodwill. - Grok22, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1day 3 sans coffee . . . grrrrr
- theCoffee, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1...As long as you negate the sugar and cream.
- pygmy, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1centipedes? in MY vagina?
- sxseven, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1that just made my day... [as I drink my coffee] and bust out laughing at JCVD [love him!]
- OutpostNetwork, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1I love the smell of dicaffeoylquinic acid in the morning
- gunit99, on 10/05/2009, -1/+2Roast your own beans in a popcorn popper FTW!
- RogerSausages, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Why the title discrepancy? Makes it sound like an investigative report exposing the hidden dangers of a cup of coffee.
The actual title is: What's Inside a Cup of Coffee?
If I wanted to be lured into reading an sensationalized article I'd pick up the newspaper. Otherwise good info - pyg13, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1From 'My expert' on fair trade - my son (his response when being e-mailed this thread)::
"Poor farmers aren't the ones who pay to get fair-trade certified. The buyers do. Starbucks doesn't buy very high quality coffee, nor do they pay top dollar. Fair trade simply means that the workers are actually getting paid livable wages. So yes, some of that may not be high quality. It's not a matter of whether the coffee is better or not. It's a matter of the workers involved getting paid fairly." - pyrobaby, on 10/06/2009, -0/+1Phew! I was seriously afraid this was gonna be like a picture of a huge bug at the bottom of a cup of coffee, or some warning about boiling water-immune parasites or something.
