- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -1/+13A drink made with swine placenta. I just threw up in my mouth.
- Lucifugerising, on 07/29/2008, -0/+11I like how the Japense arent afraid to market anything.
Must be an inventor/concept designers dream out there. - jshare, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9Bilk- great name for any product
- mitzuzake, on 07/28/2008, -0/+9The hawaii pepsi is horrible, sickeningly sweet and it turned my tongue blue for hours.
- whiteknives, on 07/29/2008, -0/+9"Weird" and "bizarre" are unnecessary when using the word "Japan."
- D3koy, on 07/29/2008, -0/+8Weird AND Bizarre? At first I thought "That's impossible", then I saw the list...

- Lucas123, on 07/29/2008, -0/+6I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Japan for finding ways to creatively bottle and can so many disgusting things. I'd like to offer toe-jam juice for their consideration.
- leerayIG88, on 07/29/2008, -0/+54 ... 5 ... 6...
- inactive, on 07/29/2008, -0/+4The pepsi blue hawaii looks good.

- howdareyou, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4Placenta FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND! OMG I'm really starting to get thirsty now.
Seriously Japan, what in the hell happened to you? Why are you the way that you are? - s0m31john, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4It's the radiation.
- SirTwitchALot, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3I've been to Japan and had Pocari Sweat. It's a lot like gatorade, only it tastes good. I wish it wasn't so expensive to buy the powder here.
- Oxygen, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4Maybe if you give her enough of it Bilk will start coming out of them.
- shoguner, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3i have to buy that "make them bigger" for my girlfriend
- richpav, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Oh get out of here. I've been living in Japan for 18 years now, wife is Japanese, kids are half Japanese and we drink milk all the time, especially the kids. Milk is sold in every supermarket and every convenience store; it's definitely not just our family who buys it.
What's not sold in every supermarket and convenience store are the truly bizarre drinks mentioned in the article. I've never seen eel juice or pig placenta drink sold anywhere. The energy drinks that come in tiny bottles though, do have some interesting ingredients like royal jelly and nicotine. And I never could find the cucumber Pepsi, only the blue stuff that looked like Windex. Kids' Beer does exist, and my kids love it. - millaround, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3there's always at least one of these guys.
- bhaity, on 07/29/2008, -0/+3i bet more than 40% of americans drink one soft drink a day
- scamper22, on 07/29/2008, -1/+4Can we get a list of things the Japanese do in a regular manner?
- sovereign3, on 07/29/2008, -2/+4I prefer Milf.
- Tryptomine, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3Hundreds of years of isolation and severe xenophobia doesn't always promote a healthy gene pool.
- kaminariko, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Wasabi Beer
http://iwate.blogspot.com/2006/09/wasabi-beer-ale- ...
I lived in a town called Miyamori in Iwate for a couple of years. They're supposedly famous for their wasabi (and apples and ginger).
They have a brewery in town that makes wasabi beer. It's not too bad. Personally I thought they would do better with apple beer, real ginger beer, or hard cider, but I'm not Japanese. They decide these things by committee, which how you get stuff like wasabi beer or cheese drinks. - IronChef69, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Slusho!
- OnlyGirlOnDigg, on 07/29/2008, -2/+4To the Japanese, Westerners are weird and bizarre. When I was in Japan I asked for a glass of milk from my host family and they looked at me like I was crazy.
- tensaibaka, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Living in Japan for the past 6 years, I can tell you that Suntory (owners of Pepsi here) has come out with more than enough weird ***** to make its own list. Ice cucumber, Blue Hawaii...Pocari Sweat isn't bad, but Aquarius is similar with a lighter taste. Gatorade finally made it over here, but only one flavor....which tastes just like Pocari Sweat..surprise surprise. The Fanta Furufuru shaker drinks are definitely weird, imagine drinking carbonated grape or orange JellO. The kids wine is like grape juice, but there's also kids beer, which is pretty nasty. The Eel Soda drink just came out, so I have yet to try it.
- kingmanic, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2SQ-EN had a product tie in that was a Final Fantasy potion bottle drink. I have no idea what it tastes like but it's got my geek curiosity going. They also had a funny commercial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg9bQPoUf_4 - WordsnCollision, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1It was on the original Top Ten - follow the link :o)
- turtleman8089, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Were u able to drink the whole thing?
i got sick after the first sip. - turtleman8089, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I think pocari sweat tasted fine. it is pretty much a japanese substitute for gatorade.
Pepsi ice cucumber on the other hand sucks. - capellathestar, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1The "Shake" video is priceless. Especially the second guy from the right.
Oh,t he girl is hot too. - jcani, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1dugg for Fanta FuruFuru dance !
- turtleman8089, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1i saw it in japan on my trip and bought it.
that was a very, very bad idea. It tasted terrible and gave me an upset stomach all evening. I still have an almost full bottle because i only took 2 sips.
I also tried pepsi ice cucumber. Its equally bad. - Philbert, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1See my comment below
- kdfrawg, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Some of these are, as advertised, very bizarre. :)
- DarkDx, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I loled
- Speed, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Am I the only one who actually wants to try Pepsi Blue Hawaii?
- duetmasaki, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Any evidence that the Okkikunare drinks work? I want a bigger rack ;)
- Speed, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I love how canned coffee is on that list when you can find it in Canada quite easily. Starbucks with their Doubleshot and Rockstar with their "Rockstar Mocha" just to name two.
- JakeyG14, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1What about Slusho..? It's because of them bastards that NY was trashed. On the other hand, they did, indirectly, lead to Hud's death...go them!
- animefx, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I went to Tokyo last year with some friends, and here is what I noticed about the soft drinks in Japan...
The best thing about japanese soft drinks is that its made with REAL sugar NOT corn syrup. Also, I must say that Melon soda is amazing and I have no idea why its not popular elsewhere. Wendy's had a Melon soda float that was incredible.
If you look for a Jones Soda in the US called "Crushed Melon" you can try something similar except its a bit sweeter, orange instead of green, and not *quite* as good but close, and most importantly it uses real sugar and not corn syrup!
They did have some odd drinks in Japan that I wouldn't try but the vast majority of them were really good. Vending machines had a wider variety of things to choose from, hot and cold drinks right on the street. I really liked Milk Tea and Peach Milk tea. I also had Final Fantasy 7 Potion (I saved the can) which is an energy drink that kind of taste like a liquid sweet tart, good but almost to sweet but to have on occasion.
You'll notice outside of convenience stores its hard to find water that isn't flavored with lemon or sugar or some type of gatoraide-esque flavor (although better than gatoraide)... This got on my nerves sometimes when I didn't want flavored anyting, just plain water. - speakafreaka, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1Yeah.. i was like wtf is this milky white crap? none of my mates would touch it but it was the tastiest thing i drank while i was over there.
- ashwinmudigonda, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I am surprised the bottled breast milk didn't make the list.
- richpav, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1No doubt you can find some weird and bizarre stuff here in Japan, but for most of it you really have to go looking for it. The reason you see so much of it in the foreign media is because it's interesting, not because it's prevalent. If you went to a 7-11 in Japan there might be only 1-2 things that seem strange (I'm thinking of the dried squid snacks and the always present oden next to the counter). The rest of the stuff--magazines, sandwiches, potato chips, drinks, ice cream, etc--not newsworthy. Honestly, I think the weird stuff is totally blown out of proportion.
