- TheToasted, on 02/10/2009, -2/+116B) is by far my favorite. I remember when they used to have the commercials where the people would try to poke the holes in the oranges with the straw. C) is just nasty
- pleem83, on 02/10/2009, -2/+87There has been a trend toward the generic, the bland, and the vectorized in product design lately, and this is one of the worst examples of this.
Please, a moment of silence for the iconic Straw in Orange. - lion1750, on 02/10/2009, -2/+73When I went to the store, I was really confused for a second while looking at the orange juice. I can't say that I'm a fan of the new design.
- greenvortex, on 02/10/2009, -0/+58I assumed that the Tropicana was generic orange juice, until I couldn't find it and had to take a closer look. I thought to myself, "I wonder how much business they are going to lose from this stupid redesign."
- alpharaptor, on 02/10/2009, -6/+59i like it, it says 'orange juice' which is what i sometimes drink...
- scooterbaga, on 02/10/2009, -1/+51I like the orange as the cap...
- danthepiercer, on 02/10/2009, -3/+47the colors on C) make me feel unpleasant...kind like how watching Ren & Stimpy made me feel sorta depressed.
- Angus5, on 02/11/2009, -2/+39What the ***** is juice, I want some orange drink.
- necroalgae, on 02/10/2009, -4/+41I think it's pretty smart. More people are buying generic, so why not don the camouflage with the intent of being scooped up by the shopper who missed the price tag.
- BA88, on 02/10/2009, -38/+67I actually like the new design.
- 0ceanic, on 02/10/2009, -8/+36i dont care about the box.
high pulp ftmfw though - analogkid01, on 02/11/2009, -11/+36I am *so* happy this made it to the front page of Digg.com. This is a critical issue which demands my immediate attention. I'm starting an email campaign, organizing a flash mob, setting up a Facebook page, registering fortheloveofgoddontchangethetropicanaorangejuicecartonlogo.net, and calling my mom.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 02/10/2009, -0/+23I almost had a meltdown trying to find the exact kind of OJ i was looking for. It was so much easier with the old design. Basically the old design changed the whole color scheme of their carton to indicate it was pulp free, or for kids. Now they just change the color of the small print "pulp free".. Someone really failed on this marketing.
- AdeleMor, on 02/10/2009, -0/+23bizarre choice, i agree. when i first saw it i thought it was a new generic brand or something. simply doesn't look as classy as the old design.
- allocate, on 02/10/2009, -1/+23A pretty good analysis. I wonder if they're having some serious branding issues, otherwise why reinvent the wheel?
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -1/+23You mean high?
- pinstripewizard, on 02/11/2009, -4/+20I wish I had pulp tablets I could take with me, so that when some dumbass has pulp free OJ I can fix it.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/11/2009, -11/+27I like it, its basic, basic is good, its only *****' orange juice its not suppose to be a work of art.
- TruthKid, on 02/11/2009, -3/+19Real men drink pulp
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -11/+25Fact: Tropicana makes more money than "John Mamus".
Fact: No one cares what John Mamus thinks since he's some douchebag that lives in his mom's basement. - lazyslacker, on 02/11/2009, -0/+13Actually the more expensive-looking the package is, the more likely I am to buy the product, especially if it's the same price as something else that looks cheaper because the packaging is cheaper-looking.
- benfish1113, on 02/11/2009, -0/+13B is by far the best.
C is okay, but a little bit boring. It basically just doesn't have the orange.
A is just an ugly piece of *****.
And also, it tastes the same as always, so why would it even matter. - Typhoon2009, on 02/11/2009, -0/+13Did not notice that...
- anagoge, on 02/11/2009, -2/+15[A] Then
[B] Don't
[C] Comment - jemka, on 02/11/2009, -2/+14There is a marketing term for it, but the idea is that people often avoid expensive looking packaging without comparing actual prices. Obviously Tropicana is attempting to use this to there advantage.
Actually I made all of that up but you have to admit it's a good guess. - Typhoon2009, on 02/11/2009, -2/+14I wouldn't call it a disaster. It's a god damned orange juice carton. People will get acclimated to it and soon it'll be the new orange with a straw.
Also semi-related: the new Pepsi bottles still retain a bit of the old Pepsi circle. Grab a new bottle and look at where it says "pepsi." The "e" looks like a small old Pepsi circle. - Jelga, on 02/11/2009, -1/+12for the mother truckin' win?
- waxcrash, on 02/11/2009, -5/+16I guess I'm the odd ball because I like the new design. The new design is minimalistic, clean, and modern looking.
- BoomShake007, on 02/11/2009, -7/+18If I wanted pulp, I'd eat a damn orange.
- qkrotor, on 02/11/2009, -3/+14You weren't watching it right.
- ChuckIT, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10it looks like all the other web 2.0 fonts - so maybe they're saying tropicana 2.0 (3.0?) - am i wrong in thinking that?
example: http://www.shambles.net/Web2/images/web2parody.jpg - Elude107, on 02/11/2009, -0/+10Rastafy it, mon.
- Orangewarp, on 02/11/2009, -1/+11Didn't read the article but one thing I noticed personally about the new design is that its hard to differentiate between their different products. Sleepy in the morning I've already accidentally grabbed my roomate's orange juice instead of my grapefruit juice. I think the tangerine juice looks exactly the same too.
Am I the only one? - jiminoc, on 02/11/2009, -1/+11Juice 2.0
- imakecomments, on 02/11/2009, -2/+12"When I see an iconic brand or symbol destroyed or misaligned, I am repulsed. "
"So, this is successful - but could of even been better."
And I am repulsed when I see "could of". - G001, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9You're calling his mom too?
- sparr, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10Dark green is emasculating? like... pink? I think you have your gender-color-stereotypes mixed up, dark green is pretty damn far over to the "manly" side of the chart.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+9I thought it was generic store brand juice when I first saw it.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+10Minimalist product design can be done well, and it can be done *****. For a Tropicana carton it just looks like one of those $0.99 generic brands that are all watered down. The old one was all nice and orange too, this one's just a sickly looking yellow.
- myFriendDerrik, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10“i think they named oranges before they named carrots.
‘what are these?’
‘they're orange. oranges.’
‘what are these?’
‘oh *****.’
‘long pointies?’”
-Demetri Martin - MattyLite, on 02/11/2009, -0/+8It looks like a store brand.
- ChileanGoD, on 02/11/2009, -1/+9***** the juice, give me compressed pulp pucks.
- ryrocker, on 02/11/2009, -1/+9dude...
that actually makes a lot of sense...
cuz ive actually seen ppl do it..
hell, i do it sometimes too
:) - WiseWeasel, on 02/11/2009, -0/+8Looks like they're both 64 ounces... Citation needed...
- brandita, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7Tropicana is a Pepsi brand.
- hydrodev, on 02/11/2009, -1/+8He applied for to be the designer. Didn't get the job.
- Kajarago, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7sorry, that just kind of makes no sense
- RustyJ, on 02/11/2009, -10/+17I think the blogger may be getting a little anal retentive here.... Is it seriously necessary to spend 7 paragraphs bitching about a ***** carton of orange juice?
Buried. - danr2c2, on 02/11/2009, -0/+7Nuh, NO! Bad design, bad! That Pepsi retro look is terrible. They must be using the same marketing team or something.
- Frozenfuryblade, on 02/11/2009, -5/+12The orange shaped cap is the only redeeming quality IMO. Overall its very generic and bland.
Not worth Front Page still >.> -
