- algaeturd, on 06/11/2009, -0/+46Innovative or just ridiculously pretentious and overly exotic for the sake of being overly exotic?
- ethanator1088, on 06/11/2009, -1/+18"Candied Bacon Ice Cream" FTW!
- stutimandal, on 06/11/2009, -0/+11Well all ice-cream flavors were/are innovated. Those that hung around and are in mass production are probably the most innovative since people would've liked them the most over time.
- asgardshill, on 06/11/2009, -1/+10Soooooo wrong in so many ways.
- greenriver572, on 06/11/2009, -1/+10those all look disgusting.
- JonTheGoose, on 06/11/2009, -0/+9i haz a falavor
- borez, on 06/11/2009, -0/+6Candied Bacon... the rest of the article was irrelevant.
- tonychenyj, on 06/11/2009, -2/+8Where is my favor Mint-Chocolate falavor?
- inkubusfan, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5Curry Carrot? MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!

How was it on Reddit 6 years ago if it was posted yesterday? Reddit has a time machine? - Rudegar, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5donno really
"Japanese Black Sesame Ice Cream"
my bet is people from Finland - antoniuk, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5Bacon is never a joke good sir!!!
- commiecat, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4Maybe the last one listed uses a vinaigrette, which doesn't sound good for ice cream, with strawberries but the original pairing is supposed to be strawberries and aged balsamic. Aged balsamic is sweet and actually tastes well with desserts. I'm not sure about a tangy salad dressing vinegar in my ice cream, though.
- taylorhayward, on 06/11/2009, -2/+6No kerosene brickle?
- BoneheadFarker, on 06/11/2009, -1/+4Actually, the Japanese have a different view on desserts. Flavours like wasabi and curry are normal for them.
- borez, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3falavor?
- jezsik, on 06/11/2009, -2/+5When I spit out my first taste of green tea* ice cream, I knew it wouldn't be long before we had sushi ice cream. I'd go for the bourbon and cornflake though - whiskey makes everything taste better!
*Yes, I know there are plenty of people who love it, probably including you, but I don't care for it; plain and simple. - nenadsuperzmaj, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3I'd go for the black Japanise. Ice-cream that is, of course :)
I can see the slogan fot the cornflake&bourbon: "To remind you of those ***** mornings at home - Alcoholicream!" - Cepster, on 06/11/2009, -1/+4Haha, you're totally right. They should rename this article "Top 10 Ice Cream Flavors That Are Too Disgusting for You to Have Actually Heard of Them"
- protogenxl, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3The do this kind of thing on Iron Chef all the Time.
- dragon76, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Peoples from Scandinavian countries also have a different take on treats; they like very spicy candies and sweets as well.
- jezsik, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Unless it's for breakfast.
- grapesofbaath, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I'd try them all. I love Jeni's Ice Cream in Columbus, OH. Lots of crazy flavors as unusual or more unusual than these, and all amazing.
- ravens32681, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2If you want to know about insane ice cream flavors, watch the episode of Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern in which he goes to Puerto Rico. He visits an ice cream shop where they make 1,000 different flavors of ice cream, from beer to corn to salt cod. Truly amazing stuff.
- Nature1, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I bought this green tea and white chocolate ice cream one day, thinking it would be good... how I was wrong.
- KSUdesigner, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2When will you people get it through your ***** heads? This is not reddit.
- mizusajt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2I've never used innovative to describe a flavor before.
- JoeParanoid, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Sounds like English candies. How about chicken fat ripple?
I just saw an ad for baconaisse, possibly to spare you the trouble of making the whole BLT, so you never know. - moo2u2, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Just had some the other day, been a fan for a while now. When I first heard of it I couldn't believe they'd make such a random flavour but after I actually tried it I found I did really like it.
I can definitely understand how a lot of people wouldn't like it (and it's certainly not my favourite by any means) but definitely a valid flavour and there's certainly a market out there for it. - tensaibaka, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1The black sesame ice cream is pretty good. If you ever come to Nagano Japan, head over to the wasabi farm and try their wasabi soft ice cream:

There's also a soba flavored soft ice cream south of there at Lake Suwa. - mathsciteach, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1My husband recently created an Olive Oil and Pepper Melange Ice Cream with a Fig Balsamic Drizzle to showcase the unique flavors of the olive oils from a local orchard. It would be fantastic as part of a multi course meal.
Of course yesterday he made Honey - Lemongrass. Very summery.
Ice cream seems to be a new medium of choice for creative chefs. - Kitakaze, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1As a cooking enthusiast and history nerd, I find comments like "...ridiculously pretentious and overly exotic for the sake of being overly exotic" to be ignorant and blinkered. Dolly Madison introduced ice cream to the White House — her favorite flavor? Oyster. I grew up with vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavored ice cream. When I ran into pistachio, I thought that was bizarre. Then I tasted it. And then I learned something.
So, to open your perspective on the issue, I'd suggest that the reason why octopus flavored ice cream sells in Japan isn't because Japanese people are pretentious or overly exotic — it just might be because it actually tastes good... - error792, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I had tomato sauce flavoured gelato once. It was quite good.
- YoctoYotta, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Molly Moon's Ice Cream in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood (and I think Capitol Hill too) had a badass bacon and maple syrup ice cream for a while. That stuff was delicious.
- Hellahulla, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1They forgot Terva ice-cream. Made of pine tar. Tasty and healthy.
- TVarmy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1David Lebovitz is a pretty awesome ice cream chef. I strongly suggest you check out his blog if you have an ice cream machine. I never have bad results with any of his recipes. I haven't tried the bacon one (too much work between candying the bacon and making an ice cream custard), but do yourself a favor and check out his Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream or Strawberry Frozen Yogurt. Much more is in his book, "Perfect Scoop."

/foodie fanboy - Slattz, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1For Bacon fans here is Heston Blumenthal (one of the worlds greatest chefs) describing how to make Egg and Bacon Ice Cream.

This is the guy who makes the famous Snail Poridge!
BTW. I recomend you try his recipies they really do work! His 18 hour steak is too die for :-).
Slatts - meandnips, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1i will be sticking with vanilla bean, thank you. It's all interesting, and some of it is ok, but I still prefer vanilla.
- dinosarefriends, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I've had flavors like these at Scoops in Los Angeles. Some of this stuff is surprisingly good. I just tried a cherry basalmic vinegar the other day. Creepy as hell, but it tasted pretty good.
- smemily, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I have it in my freezer right now and I'm very disappointed with it; the brand I have doesn't taste any different to Vanilla that I can detect. It's just odd-colored vanilla ice cream apparently.
- FlareHeart, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I have had the Black Sesame ice cream (I prefer it over Green Tea ice cream), it is very good. It is creamy and slightly nutty. It is the only one out of this list that I would want to eat, since the others just seem wrong.
- Raz4Life, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I've for sure seen chocolate marshmallow flavor at my local grocery store.
- smemily, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Balsamic and brown sugar is fantastic on strawberries.
- bluebirdgm, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Those of us who are from or have been to the Philippines know the ice cream awesomeness that is Purple Yam, as well as Cheese and Corn, and Coconut with Pandan leaves.
- TVarmy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Speaking of missing falavors, this list needs avocado ice cream. It's a great flavor, probably healthier than regular ice cream, and easy to make at home. Plus, the green color is just awesome in the most food-pornographic sense of the word.
- dinosarefriends, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1I've had some bourbon ice cream that was pretty good.
- dinosarefriends, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1ever had bacon chocolate? that stuff is cool.
- TVarmy, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Bailey's Hagen Daz was awesome. I really wish they'd bring it back to the stores.
