- AManWithNoName, on 03/04/2009, -1/+23Where I live (Modesto, CA) Taco Trucks are found on virtually every single block. They're by far some of the best mexican food I've ever had, and all they've got to make the food is whatever's in the truck. And these guys make food that's cheaper, healthier, and tastes better than most fast food places.
- GeeksSpeakFont, on 03/03/2009, -1/+20yum! i love the kebab guys in new york... they make noontime so much better!

- JCEEZ, on 03/03/2009, -1/+15Bangkok street food is amazing! I stayed away from the fried tarantula. Jamaica was pretty amazing too, but thats prob cus I was pretty blazed the entire time.
- upick, on 03/04/2009, -1/+13Street food is usually the best type of foods, you can forget the restaurants

Dugg for food. - plaunie, on 03/04/2009, -1/+12what is this, screen caps of the last three seasons of Anthony Bourdain?
- skyjis6, on 03/04/2009, -1/+12"Sadly, street food has acquired a reputation as a potential trip-wrecker."
I think that's because people only want to experience ground shaking mouth/anal diarrhea on one (or 0 for the pansies) vacation in their lifetime
fool me once, shame on you. fool my twice, i uhhh, then uhh, i won't get fooled again. - MacEnvy, on 03/04/2009, -0/+9After eating so much fast food for so long, it probably is.

- ShrimpCrackers, on 03/04/2009, -1/+9JJ Goode has obviously not experienced Taiwan's world-famous Night Markets. I'm a food connoisseur too and I've been to and eaten most of these in this list, but nothing tops the night market.

- zyklon, on 03/04/2009, -0/+6Definitely. The rule around here is that the smaller the joint, the better the food. It's a great way to find the best of the best, especially sushi and Mexican.
- noisician, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7where can you get a double-cheese triple-burger on the street in the US? (nowhere)
when did this turn into an article on healthy eating? (the blurb talks about a deep fryer)
not that i defend double cheese triple burgers as something that really ought to be on the menus of all our fast food restaurants (which does seem to be the trend) - shakenblake9, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5i recently went to berlin, tried all the local foods, and have to say i was blown away by the döner kebab. INCREDIBLE. i've had it around the world at other places but nothing has beaten that doner straight from the turks!
the currywurst was ehhhh... - torressr3, on 03/04/2009, -1/+6I'm going to Florence this summer, so I'm gonna try one of those Tripe sandwiches :D
- lunachique, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Someone brought banh mi into the office once and no one knew that this particular variety had lethal mutant jalapenos in it. The sandwiches were delicious, but everyone had to dash to get something to drink. Then there were those that picked them off, forgot to wash their hands and rubbed their eyes.
- AndySavage, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4I'm gettin a doner just thinkin about it
- Frostek, on 03/04/2009, -7/+11No, your food is terrible.
- ChelseaBlacker, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Apparently, "the best street food" cannot occur if these 2 factors are met:
1) the country's 1st language is English
2) the country's population is mostly of European ethnicity.
This means: Australia, UK, USA, NZ, aren't in the cards... (and we all know this isn't true!) - asgardshill, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Concur. Two of my favorite foods on the planet, combined. I would have never thought to try it.
Damn, now I'm hungry. - Stig, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4I'm from Belgium and I agree fries (or frites/frieten) are really great here. But I think this list has some dishes that are in a different league. OK, our fries are made from the best potatoes and fried to perfection, but essentially it's just one ingredient.
Couple those fries with some mussels or a great steak, then we're talking. But it wouldn't be street food. - eramos, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Gyros on the streets of Athens are delicious; alas, they are being pushed out by fast food chains and the like. Sad.
- fightingforair, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Japan has it's own array of foods which were ignored here. Some extremely simple but delicious. Like the specially baked potato. Jaga Buta.
Or the exotic, like okonomiyaki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okonomiyaki
Lots more I could go on! - Stavrosian, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3When you're done, head to Vivoli for the best gelato you will ever taste.
- rsbryswrrl, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Japadog FTW!
http://www.japadog.com/en/index.html - fightingforair, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Kebabs the whole world over are amazing. Here in Japan after a great night clubbing or at the bar, it isn't too hard to find a kebab van lurking by. Damn those always cap off the night right.
- solittledeserve, on 03/05/2009, -0/+3Not only are they cheap but it seems every place here is buy 5 and get one free. There should be a Banh Mi place on every street corner everywhere.
- JCEEZ, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4your an idiot
- oxymoron69, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4Most of the year it's too cold for street food vendors in my town.
But the best local food, that you cat eat with your hands comes from a place called the Nova Deli.
This page: http://www.thegreatness.com/old/olddonair.html while ugly as sin, describes what a donair is.
The pictures really are just nasty though.
Apparently donairs are a Canadian dish, like poutine. But donairs don't get much action outside of Nova Scotia and the one place that makes them in my town (the owner/chef is from Nova scotia).
While not made on the street (since you'd freeze almost 4 months every year) this definitely looks far better than most of the garbage on that list... So if you're driving through ontario on the 401, stop off in a small city called Belleville and go to a little place on N Front St. grab medium donair; prepare to get messy. - paines, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3If you ever happen to be in Bosnia or Croatia try Cevapcici and/or Burek. You won't regret.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%86evap%C4%8Di%C4% ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burek - Tyrant505, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2arepas con huevos in the morning....
- fightingforair, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2If you go to any festival they'll usually be there. (sorry my romanji may be off for it) It's simply a baked potato really. They take, what I think is Hokaido, potatoes. Steam them. Crack them open and load them with a special fat jager butter and salt them up.
It's that simple but the combo of the type of potato with the excellent butter just make for something else.
Highly recommended! - theartfuldodgr, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Ok, if you want to get real technical then lets do this. First off, its not Are U Hungry, its RU Hungry?, as in Rutgers University. They are not a restaurant, they cook and serve food out of a freaking truck. They are not a chain, there is only one location, the parkinglot by Rutgers. http://valuemenus.com/scarletmenus/menus.php?R=58& ...
- Frostek, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2After nine hours of drinking, anything tastes good... Try it when you're sober and see if it's worth talking about then.
- blacktriangle, on 03/04/2009, -1/+3I've been eating tacos from the taco cart listed in this article for the last several months. I ought to add that its 8 Pesos for a taco, which is .52 cents US.
- ShoggothDreams, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2I agree that Okonomiyaki is fantastic, my brother makes killer Tuna Okonomiyaki, but it's not actually streetfood. You do however have me VERY curious as to what "Jaga Buta" is??????? I tried Googling the question like Moss, and tried Wikipedia, but no luck....
- mrthebunny, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2I'm from Montreal, where they are called "shawarma" (with beef) or "shish taouk" (with chicken). In Paris they are called either "donair" or, unofficially, "greek sandwitch" (no, not souvlakis). the type of bread can vary from place to place.
From what I've seen, they were mostly made by the lebanese, but also by the turks. Anyway, I've always been a fan! :-) - luersuve, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2I bet they are worth it...

- plegan, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2Local governments make it way too difficult for street vendors to operate.
- TheUngod, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2This list isn't the best street food, it's just the strangest. Buried for inaccuracy, and 12 pages.
