- Crimeodial, on 11/27/2009, -1/+209That really is the best name ever.
- inactive, on 11/27/2009, -8/+195OK, hands up everyone who thinks this sounds delicious.
- greggerm, on 11/28/2009, -5/+167Two big fat middle fingers at the shmuck who wrote the article for judging the Sam Adams Utopias without having ever tasted it by saying...
"we reckon Utopias will taste like most other American beers - like the bottom of a boat - ie... pretty close to water."
Spend a few pence on a bottle and try it out, cheapskates. You'll be pleasantly surprised. - emecks, on 11/27/2009, -4/+124On behalf of Scotland I'd just like to say:
You're welcome, cheers! - Narsilianshard, on 11/28/2009, -19/+123“We reckon Utopias will taste like most other American beers - like the bottom of a boat - ie... pretty close to water.”
“Most Americans we've met couldn't tell the difference between an IPA and their elbow, so it's nice to see some yanks who understand ale.”
What's with the USA-bashing? America has some of the best and most varied beers in the world. - zacbro, on 11/28/2009, -3/+94Seriously, what a stupid thing to say. American micro-breweries make some of the best beers in the world. I'm sorry for Budweiser and George Bush, but hating on all our beer is just stupid and made me resent this article.
If you're gonna hate on another countries' beer, you better be from Belgium. You can have your warm "bitters." That leaves more of the good stuff for me. - anonymousmedic, on 11/28/2009, -2/+64I hear Iran has bought a couple thousand cases for "research" purposes.
- omgwtflawl, on 11/28/2009, -3/+45"Tennent's Super - UK - Wellpark - 9% abv"
Really? A 9% beer made it on a "list of strongest beers"? I'll have to look for my Camry on the "list of fastest cars" sometime. - FattyMagee, on 11/28/2009, -3/+42I love how every other country thinks that everyone drinks bud and thats it in the US. Theres over 1400 micro brews in the US. I only drink the piss water when thats the only thing available.
- debtman7, on 11/28/2009, -5/+41Eh, it's an ice beer. It's not hard to make a strong beer when you freeze it to concentrate the alcohol. The Sam Adams is much more impressive at 24% naturally fermented, as most yeast strains will die above 15% alcohol or so.
- macromorgan, on 11/28/2009, -1/+36Stereotyping is unfair and should never be done. There are many fine American beers.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to follow up this claim by stating that all British cuisine sucks, all Italian cars spend more time at the mechanic than on the road and that French people are born with a white flag in their hands. - kidtwist, on 11/28/2009, -3/+37Do microbrews not count?
- byrdboy, on 11/28/2009, -5/+36You're a quid.
- r0bi, on 11/28/2009, -0/+25the only winning move is not to play
- MacBandit, on 11/28/2009, -2/+27Yeah well there are a lot of piss beers in Europe as well.
- Rocketbird, on 11/28/2009, -3/+27I was just about to say that. Haaaaaters.
- Narsilianshard, on 11/28/2009, -3/+24Totally agree, but this article is clearly talking about microbrews and crafts.
And as a rebuttal to the proud UK authors, the most popular beers in England are foreign (Carlsberg and Stella) so what does that say about English beer? - sClubDevin, on 11/28/2009, -1/+22yeah i doubt 32%abv beer would taste delicious. im sure its fun to drink though
- GasPla, on 11/28/2009, -0/+20They're actually given their white flag at the age of three. The more of you know.
- Financialhwy, on 11/27/2009, -1/+17two hands up here!
- naturalpapa, on 11/27/2009, -0/+16Dugg for Schorschbraerm (?)
- MacBookForMe, on 11/27/2009, -1/+17Wow, that's just too cool! We'll be merry even faster... (Tennent's Super was my British binge pick before)
- evenflowdave, on 11/27/2009, -1/+17who else but the Scots to figure out a way to get pished quicker! sounds delish too :)
- Starks, on 11/28/2009, -2/+17Expected a Linux reference.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/28/2009, -4/+19Beer snobs are like vegans, if you go out with them they are guaranteed to piss you off by bitching about your choices
- Lugano, on 11/28/2009, -2/+16Someone needs to buy some of these and send them to the guys at Diggnation.
- Rev0lver, on 11/28/2009, -5/+18You know, there are beers and people who drink beer for their taste. There IS life beyond Coors and Heineken.
- Gndoab, on 11/28/2009, -2/+15the dogfish head 120 min. IPA is actually stronger than the two least strongest ones on the list, ranking in at 21%. Also, these guys have no idea what real american beer tastes like, and have their heads up their asses:
"Our twopence: Most Americans we've met couldn't tell the difference between an IPA and their elbow, so it's nice to see some yanks who understand ale."
when talking about a stout. - pinkpackrat, on 11/27/2009, -1/+13Down the hatch and good for Scotland!
- Rawlerman, on 11/27/2009, -2/+14two hands up and my... well... well you know... knob.
- sab0tage, on 11/28/2009, -0/+12You're a bit confused because you didn't RTFA. To save you the bother with reading lots of words strung together to form sentences I will make this brief; Tactical Nuclear Penguin is from a Scottish brewery called Brew Dog.
- Tarkaan, on 11/28/2009, -0/+12Hangover in a bottle. I'm in.
- inactive, on 11/28/2009, -2/+13not as cool as its stronger brother - strategic nuclear penguin.
- ferretpants, on 11/28/2009, -0/+11Why not?
- Tarkaan, on 11/28/2009, -2/+13^^ He means it's like having sex in a canoe. ***** close to water.
- anonymousmedic, on 11/28/2009, -14/+25Most of them are microbrews or regional brews.
American Mainstream beer is to quality as warm piss is to thirst quenching. - Eesabonus, on 11/27/2009, -5/+16Dugg for the line: Like the bottom of a boat ie... pretty close to water
- chunkybeefstu, on 11/28/2009, -1/+11"Nuclear penguin detected."
*pssssssh*
"Ahhhh, that's the stuff!" - alasdairmacl, on 11/28/2009, -2/+11On behalf of Scotland I'd just like to say:
Sláinte Mhath - r0bi, on 11/28/2009, -0/+9it really brings out the herring.
- elperegrino, on 11/28/2009, -4/+13Really?? Seriously? Delicious?
- hoikarnage, on 11/28/2009, -0/+9Do nuclear penguins taste that much better than regular penguin flavored beer?
- Swipecat, on 11/28/2009, -1/+10Freeze fortified? OK, but in most countries that can't be sold as "beer" -- it's "malt liquor". Sounds very different when you call it that, doesn't it?
- mmpre, on 11/28/2009, -1/+9I don't know why I'm still laughing at your response...
- DeletingMachine, on 11/28/2009, -7/+15By "A few pence," you mean fifty quid?
- kevinduckworth, on 11/28/2009, -1/+9@bromac: MGD is 4.6-4.7% abv, and Coors is 5%. Try leaving Utah sometime.
- flashingcurser, on 11/28/2009, -0/+8The trick is to stop drinking the budweiser. By the way, budweiser is owned by a european company.
- flashingcurser, on 11/28/2009, -0/+8You're right they're no longer a microbrewery, so I don't think you should compare Sam Adams with craft brews. Compare them with other giant breweries and I think their products stand up pretty damned well. Would you rather have a Sam Adams or Miller? Don't tell me you're that much of a beer snob that if your host only offered sam adams or a miller you wouldn't drink one. So which would it be?
- omnithought, on 11/28/2009, -3/+11Nah, it's more likely that they dugg him down for mentioning the old and tired meme of Chuck Norris.
