- doctechnical, on 11/09/2009, -0/+29Yeah, I thought that too when I was twelve.
- rtcrooks, on 11/09/2009, -3/+21New Belgium has my heart. Bring on the Tour de Fat!
- lkbvr, on 11/10/2009, -0/+17Love living in Oregon!
- jsuther, on 11/09/2009, -4/+19This story brought to you by the legalization of home brewing. None of these breweries existed before the 1970s. Great things happen when the government isn't butting their nose in.
- richirwin, on 11/09/2009, -2/+17Craft brewers? Isn't Boston Beer Company the largest US owned beermaker?
- DogFish90, on 11/09/2009, -2/+15Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA FTW
- bradleyland, on 11/09/2009, -0/+13Mmmmm. Beer.
- Snoogs, on 11/09/2009, -0/+13I <3 Beer.
- pilzburybizkit, on 11/09/2009, -2/+14Sierra Nevada and Stone. Can't go wrong with either. I want to brush my teeth with Arrogant Bastard.
- corbinat, on 11/10/2009, -0/+10I don't know how you managed to mess that joke up.
- AJRiddle, on 11/10/2009, -2/+12No it isn't, its like making a list of the top 50 best selling indie rock bands.
- Pirate45, on 11/10/2009, -0/+10You suck.
- richirwin, on 11/10/2009, -1/+11They are.

And somebody dugg me down for asking a question that, in fact, was true? Wtf? - MercenarySlick, on 11/10/2009, -1/+10No, it perpetuates the myth that "crappy beer" is the only beer America produces, when in fact the US has literally the best craft breweries in the world. What's funny is that people who willingly only drink the crappy American beer say American beer sucks when last year the US won more awards at the World Beer Cup than Germany did...
- AaronPDX, on 11/09/2009, -0/+9Boulevard. Oh Boulevard. How I miss you. Yes, now I've got Rogue, Deschutes, Full Sail... but I'd trade... well, I'd trade Full Sail for Boulevard, anyway. At least just Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat. Dear god I miss that beer.
- jonpaul333, on 11/10/2009, -0/+8Except in the way that "Craft Brewer" is defined by the Brewers Association. Boston Beer Co makes less than 2M barrels a year, putting them in the craft beer catagory:
http://www.beertown.org/education/craft_defined.ht ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Beer_Company - L0NER, on 11/09/2009, -6/+14This is like rating indie rock based on sales.
- captininsanity, on 11/10/2009, -2/+9Unfortunately a lot of Americans get this idea that beer is only for getting drunk. Thus some say it sucks, and others just drink crappy cheap beer to get drunk. This just perpetuates the cycle of America producing crappy beer.
- TehPherd, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7This would probably be a more useful list:
http://beeradvocate.com/top_beers
Remove the non-American beers if you must, but I'd rather see things ranked on taste. - random846, on 11/10/2009, -1/+8I guess it would be impressive if my piss was always the same exact color.
- dusterduder, on 11/10/2009, -0/+7Actually it was Jimmy Carter's who legalized Home brewing and made this a more feasible business.
- skin, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6New Glarus Spotted Cow and New Glarus Belgian Red are the two best beers I've ever tasted. If you are ever in Wisconsin be sure to try some.
- MercenarySlick, on 11/10/2009, -1/+7The only people that say American beer is watery are the idiots who have never had craft brewed American beer. It's not our fault that YOU have only had the crappy beer, when that is only because your country only has demand for crappy beer.
You Canadians, since you're desperate for pride, brag about your beer but American beers in international awards completely outperform Canadian beers. - elliotys, on 11/10/2009, -0/+6I can see Deschutes brewery from my house :D
I think it is important to love and respect all beer though. Every beer is unique, and every brewer pours their heart into what they do. I like micro's the most, but from a technical standpoint, the hardest beers to make in the world are Coors light, and Bud light. They are so simple, that any little flaw whatsoever, would be detectable by the majority of the population. Not to mention they get the same taste every year from completely different batches of hops, and barley. - bootie, on 11/10/2009, -1/+7No Goose Island? Really? Really?
- bossm4n, on 11/09/2009, -4/+10Dugg for Shiner! The new beers they put out this year are outstanding, especially their Centennial brew. Had a couple pints of that on Saturday. So damn good.
- vtbarrera, on 11/09/2009, -1/+7The "Tour de Fat" is ridiculously fun. Booze + bikes = WIN.
- merbot, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5I see your 90 and raise you a 120
- Toadette, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5I <3 Victory brewing co.
- jaybol, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Here is the Brewers Association definition of craft brewers:
An American craft brewer is small, independent and traditional.
Small: Annual production of beer less than 2 million barrels. Beer production is attributed to a brewer according to the rules of alternating proprietorships. Flavored malt beverages are not considered beer for purposes of this definition.
Independent: Less than 25% of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by an alcoholic beverage industry member who is not themselves a craft brewer.
Traditional: A brewer who has either an all malt flagship (the beer which represents the greatest volume among that brewers brands) or has at least 50% of it’s volume in either all malt beers or in beers which use adjuncts to enhance rather than lighten flavor. - VicHislop, on 11/10/2009, -2/+7Agreed! 87 breweries with Portland having 38 in the metro area. Most of any metro area in the world.
- ctabone, on 11/10/2009, -0/+5Obsidian Stout and Black Butte Porter, Mmmmm...
- Treshnell, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4New Glarus Spotted Cow for me!
- MikawaMike, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4I thought that too when I was eight.
- jmritchie, on 11/10/2009, -2/+6For those people that think Boston beer company is not a craft brewer: you are wrong, and a douchebag for complaining. Although BBC's inclusion on this might go against your Internet troll intuiton, it is in fact a craft brew. Also, What major brewery consistently features limited edition and seasonal brews?
- benmandude, on 11/09/2009, -3/+7I'm so glad I live in Fort Collins. New Belgium rocks, bring on the Fat Tire.
- tylercanopy, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4I live in Wisconsin and I couldn't agree more. Glad to see it on the list.
- itschrisgetit, on 11/10/2009, -0/+4Blvd. came in at number 8! Their Blvd. Unfiltered wheat is my all time favorite beer. I think they have really spread outside of the KC area.
- SecretMiracle, on 11/10/2009, -0/+490 Min IPA is one of the tastiest beers ever.
- catalysis, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4The term "craft beer" can be applied to almost any beer. The criteria "small, independent, and traditional" is probably a better description of microbreweries, and it would have made a more interesting graphic.
- beersnob, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4There's nothing finer than an ice cold Shiner! w00t! Way to go Spoetzl!!!
- therealrico, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3I am so proud of Vermont and all the great beers we produce, a few that didn't make the list that I wholeheartedly endorse
Rock Art Brewery
Trout River
Switchback
Brew Pubs
Shed Mountain Ale
Vermont Pub and Brewery
Zero Gravity at American Flat Bread
The Alchemist
The Bobcat
I have been to all these places, and they are all top notch - beloitpiper, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Try New Glarus next time you're in Wisconsin.
- morgino, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3It's not on here but I have yet to drink a better beer than Stone, your welcome from the beer capital of the country San Diego. I love this town
- Thumper13, on 11/10/2009, -1/+4You, Sir Douchebag, have not traveled this great land of ours.
Yes, our massed produced "beer" is *****.
The local stuff is GOLD!
I am of course partial to the Portland and Oregon breweries, but there are many states making great beer. - robdip, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3VICTORY!
- woofers07, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Seconded, but Full Sail? Really? Surprised to see McMenamins get some love though.
- iamghost, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Victory FTW
- bigbri069, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Dugg for FX Matt. If anyone here is old enough to remember Matts beer before is became "craft brewed" Saranac.
- OoO3xOoO, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Anderson Valley is the best beer on there. Their distribution is minimal, but the oatmeal stout and the solstice beers are AMAZING!
