- RevChris2, on 02/26/2009, -9/+104ahhh pasteurized milk
66% Less vitamins
100% Less dangerous bacterium - hawk0168, on 02/26/2009, -4/+86From Wikipedia: "Some of the diseases that pasteurization can prevent are tuberculosis, diphtheria, polio, salmonella, strep throat, scarlet fever, listeriosis and typhoid fever."
- dball48, on 02/26/2009, -0/+75Those things build character.
- TenaciousG86, on 02/26/2009, -12/+81I always like playing Russian Roulette with my breakfast
- badboys213, on 02/26/2009, -13/+67Yeah, I think I'll stick to my pasteurized milk. Don't really fee like getting diarrhea and all that...
- RedStateRetard, on 02/26/2009, -3/+562001: Outbreak of Campylobacter jejuni infections from drinking “raw” or unpasteurized milk.
2003: Outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections from eating unpasteurized queso fresco (a Mexican-style soft cheese)
2003: Outbreak of Salmonella infections from eating unpasteurized queso fresco.
2004: Outbreak of E. coli.O157 infections from eating unpasteurized queso fresco
Ask your doctor, not the stockboy at your healthfood store, he will tell you that pasteurizing your milk is recommended. - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+45I got raw milk from my mom many years ago.
- gtrunner, on 02/26/2009, -3/+39Roy: Hey, I hope you don't mind, I got up a little early, so I took the liberty of milking your cow for you. Yeah, it took a little while to get her warmed up, she sure is a stubborn one, whew.
[Takes a drink from the bucket]
Mr. Boorg: We don't have a cow. We have a bull.
Roy: I'm gonna brush my teeth. - DontThinkSo, on 02/26/2009, -5/+40I'll take a 33% reduction in vitamins in a single food source if it eliminates the danger of bacterial infection from enjoying milk with my cookies.
- chupavacas, on 02/26/2009, -5/+38At least once in your life you should try some raw, warm, fresh out of the cow (or goat, or whatever) milk. You probably won't want to do it again but it's an experience.
- fasda, on 02/26/2009, -15/+46OK let me give you one species Escherichia coli O157:H7. This species I kid you not will give you bloody diarrhea and kills 61 people every year in the US. Less nutritious milk is totally worth not getting that.
- SwiftKick34, on 02/26/2009, -2/+27Humans beings are the ONLY species that build apartments and skyscrapers and Nintendo Wii. It's not natural and not good for you.
- 35y365h, on 02/26/2009, -6/+30Don't let these 'green' folk fool you. They aren't green, they are just anti establishment. Look up the scientific data on why we pasteurize milk. You'll be shocked at the crap that was occurring before pasteurization became law.

Now let me be clear: Not all raw milk is bad. If you know the cow it came from and know its health status, and you've taken the steps then it is almost always ok. However, the large scale production and then wholesale of non-pasteurized milk is when we start getting problems. - caramba421, on 02/26/2009, -1/+25So how about this...pasteurize your milk, and eat a couple of ***** vegetables. Problem solved.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+26I got raw milk from your mom last night
/ohsnap - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -10/+33Nothing like a good case of septic sore throat to send you scurrying back to the supermarket for pasteurized milk. Take a multivitamin instead of risking disease. Vitamin A and D are added back in as it is pasteurized. Need more vitamin D? Step outside in the sun for a while.
Another tip, buy your milk in a paper carton. The plastic jugs lose their vitamins more after they hit the supermarket, from the ultraviolet light coming from fluorescent fixtures in the display case. Also, milk in a paper carton tastes better because the same lights "oxygenate" the milk in a clear container- glass or plastic making it taste like wet cardboard. This is why you see colored bottles, they are trying to stop light wavelengths from deteriorating the product. - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -0/+18So if you drink milk, you get an assplosion?
I was just looking for an excuse to use assplosion - RedS0x, on 02/26/2009, -1/+18He just did.
/ohsnap - inactive, on 02/26/2009, -1/+18Like cooking any food, it's a trade-off between risks and benefits. When we cook, nutrients are lost. However, the negative effect of those lost nutrients is outweighed by the risk of disease. You can make up those lost nutrients through other sources. ***** out your intestines because of contaminated food? A little harder to compensate for.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -3/+19Lactose free milk is where its at. Otherwise, I'll be pooping all day.
Not the good solid poop either, but that real wet kind that sounds like throwing 100 small rocks into a pond at once. - rawnzilla, on 02/26/2009, -7/+23***** Milk. I'm lactose intolerant, bitches.
- inactive, on 02/26/2009, -2/+18Yeah, I'm a little confused here. Seriously, if for some bizarre reason I'm worried about nutrient loss, I can pop a vitamin pill and avoid the unnecessary intestine-shredding.
- JackGrinnan, on 02/26/2009, -0/+16Craigslist.
- maliath, on 02/26/2009, -0/+16Also, don't forget you can contract mycobacterium bovis!
That's a form of TB people ... - k3rfuffl3, on 02/26/2009, -3/+18I wasn't aware raw milk contained "***** nuggets"
- pintomp3, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16You can't oh-snap your own comment.
- gixxer600, on 02/26/2009, -1/+16even people in third world countries know not to always drink raw milk ..... my father lived in a tiny village in Albania and they still heated the milk before drinking it they weren't some stupid hippie Americans who don't understand biology and think that vitamin are some sort of super molecules give you super power you already get enough from other foods
- FadedFace, on 02/26/2009, -2/+16I don't know about the US but in the UK cows carry tuberculosis which can then be spread to humans in unpasteurized milk. So no thanks mate!
- Dagolith, on 02/26/2009, -0/+14LOL At comparing pasteurization spraying it with lysol.
- tmike7223, on 02/26/2009, -0/+13mmmm... samla hayek's boobies
- codyman, on 02/26/2009, -3/+16Yeah ***** science! don't need advances created to protect both you from weird diarrhea ***** and all that fun stuff!
- nmezib, on 02/26/2009, -5/+1766% *fewer* vitamins
oh, god, I turned into one of those internet grammar nazis! I'm so sorry!
*shoots self* - Yambag, on 02/26/2009, -4/+16Mmmm nothing taste as good as milk with salmonella, E. coli and Listeria monocytogene. Stupid hippies, go drink your raw milk and ***** blood. Naturopathic physician is the modern day snake oil salesman.
- IronTek, on 02/26/2009, -0/+11Raw milk, raw eggs, raw bacon.
In Soviet Russia, breakfast eats you! - caoimhinn, on 02/26/2009, -2/+13This is also very dangerous. I wouldn't mess around with raw milk. Pasteurization might destroy some beneficial nutrients, but it also destroys salmonella and e coli. That, to me, is an acceptable tradeoff.
- andrewthrice, on 02/27/2009, -0/+11It's 66% less vitamins, not fewer. Fewer is for discrete, countable things.
- angelgabe, on 02/26/2009, -1/+12I have, when I was 6, straight out of a cow. My dad was teaching me to milk a cow and he told me to open wide. [insert mandatory joke here] Pretty soon the barnyard cats were surrounding me begging for a taste. It's alot sweeter before it's pasteurized.
- Dragular, on 02/26/2009, -2/+13getting my dick caught in my zipper was an experience but jesus I would not suggest anyone try that.
- Optiks, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11[citation needed]
- poisenloaf, on 02/26/2009, -2/+12even with 66% loss, it has more vitamins than a lot other things of you might drink instead of milk.
- pintomp3, on 02/26/2009, -0/+10Too easy.
- Garganturat, on 02/26/2009, -4/+14"Pasteurization also destroys beneficial enzymes, antibodies and hormones. "
I don't think I want more hormones, thanks. Also, I don't think the enzymes will make it through my protease soup that is my stomach. Although antibodies may make it through, remember that they're cow antibodies. I'm not sure how good they are for you. - caramba421, on 02/26/2009, -3/+13E. Coli only kills 61 people per year as a direct result of food safety laws that we have in place.
- Disgod, on 02/27/2009, -0/+10Humans are the ONLY species that cooks its food. Cooked food isn't natural, you shouldn't eat it either.
/s - kingmanic, on 02/26/2009, -0/+10Adds creaminess.
- kingmanic, on 02/26/2009, -0/+10Unpasteurized milk will also spoil much much quicker raising the cost of milk so the options are:
33% less nutrition
99% less harmful bacteria
cheap and abundant
or
0% less nutrition
100% of harmful bacteria
Expensive and difficult to stock - carbonfilament, on 02/26/2009, -1/+11great. 20% absorption of a 100% daily vitamin is a net gain for me.
- ihatepancakes, on 02/26/2009, -8/+17This whole post is probably just a troll, but ***** who spread this kind of misinformation should be held accountable. This article is full of outright lies and if the author "will definitely be giving [his] older daughters raw milk" then he should be jailed when they fall ill. Anyone who is this gullible and has so little regard for science is probably also religious...

Raw Milk & Pasteurization: Debunking Milk Myths
While pasteurization has helped provide safe, nutrient-rich
milk and cheese for over 120 years, some people continue to
believe that pasteurization harms milk and that raw milk is a
safe, healthier alternative.
Here are some common myths and proven facts about milk
and pasteurization:
• Pasteurizing milk DOES NOT cause lactose intolerance and
allergic reactions. Both raw milk and pasteurized milk can
cause allergic reactions in people sensitive to milk proteins.
• Raw milk DOES NOT kill dangerous pathogens by itself.
• Pasteurization DOES NOT reduce milk’s nutritional value.
• Pasteurization DOES NOT mean that it is safe to leave milk
out of the refrigerator for extended time, particularly after it
has been opened.
• Pasteurization DOES kill harmful bacteria.
• Pasteurization DOES save lives. - hinchb, on 02/26/2009, -0/+9It is just the illuminati trying to keep you down, man.
