- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -6/+33Bacon...?
- inactive, on 12/26/2008, -0/+197/10 of the items on this list are actually things that I never eat. That never happens!
Cabbage is very easy to do, BTW. If you are of eastern European descent then I'm sure you know of several traditional ways to prepare it (golabkis and piedogies are my favorites!), but you can also throw it into most soups and stews. Cabbage is awesome. - mark076h, on 12/27/2008, -1/+19Print view has it all on one page http://abcnews.go.com/print?id=5334734
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -1/+16Come on, I'm eating 7 of those - admittedly occasionally, not regularly, but still, pomegranate juice? Cabbage? Cinnamon? Are those really so uncommon to encounter?
- gfxlonghorn, on 12/27/2008, -1/+12Actually Cinnabon has shifted to a synthetic cinnamon. They really didn't like how it lowered patients blood sugar, so they had to develop a synthetic cinnamon with no added health benefits.
- natpatben, on 12/27/2008, -0/+9Sprinkle cinnamon on pumpkin seeds and you can get two-in-delicious-one!
- kyoobeh, on 12/27/2008, -1/+11i'm going to combine these 10 items and make a super drink meal replacement system.
investors? - inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+9The spice must flow!
- KyleGoetz, on 12/27/2008, -0/+8@gfxlonghorn: Did you just call customers of Cinnabon "patients"?
Also, I see your avatar. Hook em! - MrOmniscient, on 12/27/2008, -0/+7chris1234 doesn't like beets?
- bdbr, on 12/27/2008, -3/+10For those not keeping track, Digg recommendations so far:
1. Cabbage - wrap small amounts around giant balls of hamburger and ground pork.
2. Cinnamon - sprinkle on sugary dough, then cover with copious amounts of butter.
No wonder we're so healthy! - purpledoc, on 12/27/2008, -2/+9These lists are garbage...you know what the "superfoods" are--they are the fruits and vegetables that 1) are plentiful, 2) affordable, 3) you'll actually eat, rather than some godly berry grown in the shade of the himalayas.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6dude, stuffed cabbage rolls? I had to look both those names up. I am going to make some for UFC tomorrow night. I pulled up this recipe for golabkis:
1 lg. head cabbage
1/2 lb. hamburger
1/2 lb. ground pork
1 c. rice
2 c. water
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
1 onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cube butter, melted
1 lg. can tomatoes
Water - wonderbriefs, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6I think its like a squire.
- Halsfield, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6digg likes lists, get over it or you'll lose your mind.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+6OH god. Big mistake.
The advice I got for the galabkis was "just don't put too much junk in it" and then I listened to 2 hours of her husband talking about his childhood from when he was 8 years old selling newspapers until a short time after he got out of the Navy. A lot of these stories are stories I've heard before. Highlights: When he went to live in New Haven with his brother who got him a job at a hospital there he found out that he was 16 and not 17 so the hospital made him go to school. He went to see this girl instead most of the time, but didn't tell his brother, and one day he tried to be a big shot so he brought a cigar and tried to smoke it. He wound up puking all over this girl's lawn, and the three of us had a great laugh over his misfortune. Then there were stories of when he kept hurting himself in the service. One time when he slipped and hit himself in the face with a crow bar in Brisbane, which resulted in stitches and a cracked front tooth. Another time in San Fransisco he fell down the stairs from his ship and broke his wrist. Laughs were had by all yet again. The stair fall resulted in a broken wrist, so he was sent to Yosemite for the remainder of his service. I'm sure that he was very happy because he was scared of them Japs, they used to come after his boat with the airplanes and he would have to shoot at them. He said the scariest part was when they were on the approach. One island they got to they must've just left cause there was all this rice with maggots crawling over them, and right alongside this rice was hundreds if not thousands of used condoms. God knows what they did there!
I tried for two hours to politely excuse myself to no avail, I wound up just saying "well its getting late" and he then looked at the clock and said "oh damnit I forgot my pills". I think I'll visit tomorrow afternoon to resume story time. - PueSi, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6Guavas are eaten commonly in Mexico, it's one of my favourite fruits.
Banana with Guava milkshakes are delicious.. - inhaler, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5You should try Kapusta (or Kapuska in Turkish) soup. Basically it's cabbage but you can find a good recipe out there.

A shifting of blood pressure that much is reserved for physicians and physicians alone haha. - ChayD, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5Did the conversation go something like?....
"I love cinnamon"
"Wow! Me too!"
"Let's f**k" - thegrantman, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6Preliminary studies of cinnamon didn't go as well as expected.

- ScottMitchell, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6There's always kimchi, if you prefer a Korean cuisine.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of cabbage kimchi, but cucumber kimchi is delicious. - datagod, on 12/27/2008, -1/+6I am eating them....and about 45 others right now...man I am getting fat!
- rypaintD, on 12/27/2008, -0/+5coming from a croatian and polish family, and being from the pittsburgh area, pierogies and cabbage are a very common food for me.

- booksnmore4you, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Chard is the same family as beets.
- mark076h, on 12/27/2008, -1/+5All you have to do is start eating at Cinnabon
- socialrebel, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Step 1: Stop eating fast food and processed junk food and drinking soda
Step 2: Eat these healthful foods + whatever other healthful foods you like
Step 3: Profit?? (lose some weight) - inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4Leave out the pork and the butter, and that sounds just like 'holishkes' (Rumanian [???]) to me. Mmmmmmmm. I almost never eat meat, but for holishkes I would make an exception.
- viksmaester, on 12/27/2008, -0/+44 Pages to tell me the names of 5 fruits!!!!
- redoctane, on 12/27/2008, -4/+8Fact - Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
- vsujohn2, on 12/27/2008, -4/+8Why aren't you eating bacon?
- alex7575, on 12/27/2008, -0/+4I used to eat them all the time back in Brazil. A few years back I was on vacation in Kaua'i, and during a hike there were a ton of guava trees by the trail, I picked a bunch and started eating them, and people were starring at me as if I was eating *****.
- inactive, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3I was going to try to post some sort of recipe, but I do it the 'lazy way' which is as a single casserole and not individually wrapped. I've always been told that wrapping them is a pain in the ass, though the piedogies (phonetic way of spelling pierogies) are a pain in the ass and I do it, so I always avoided it. My grandparents always wrapped them nicely and cooked theirs in some sort of tomato sauce or juice. I'm going to go next door and see if I can get a recipe from my 90 year old Polish aunt.
- Barackalypse, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3I'd much rather get a list of the 10 best tasting foods no nutritionalist will ever recommend you eat, instead of 10 foods that you aren't eating because they taste bad. I suspect the list will go something like:
bacon
beef jerky
whiskey - MrSparkle666, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3The foods listed here are still very good for you, it's just the antioxidant theory that is flawed.
- bizchris, on 12/27/2008, -0/+3Good list. Three others that I always hope to see on there, but never do for some reason (we've replaced oatmeal with amaranth for breakfast - don't eat it all that often but enjoy it when we do):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaranth#Grain_amaran ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teff
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinoa#Nutritional_va ... - maz2331, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2Take a head of cabbage and cut it into something close to individual leaves, and shred two large or five small onions. Boil 2 gallons (about 4l) of water, toss the cabbage, onions, and about 2 pounds (just under 500g, for our European friends) of ham or corned beef into the pot, and cook at a simmer for two hours.
Add seasonings to taste, and cook for 1/2 hour longer. - maz2331, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2...has its uses.
It's a great way to make cabbage into an interesting meal. Cut the bacon into small pieces and fry it until crispy. Set bacon and grease off to the side.
Chop the cabbage into small strips, and add the bacon + grease to your favorite cole slaw recipe (measure the grease and cut the mayonayse appropriately).
Good stuff.
If you eat it like that all the time, it will still give you a heart attack. But you can at least die somewhat happy. - Residents, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2This is cool because I'm a person who has quit smoking several times (this time for good..... for damn good) and I have been improving my diet because it is the only way I get energy. I don't like a lot of the foods listed here but I will try to moderate them into my diet. Eating right requires new information almost constantly. When you quit smoking you lose a huge stimulant. That means no more burgers and staying thin, you have to eat right to maintain energy and stay fit and happy. It was a 4 year long rough change, I think I can venture into some new foods at this point. The road has been tougher then this.
- Netik09, on 12/27/2008, -0/+2We love guavas. They grow a lot in northern Mexico and here in the RGV.
