- innocentsinner, on 06/13/2008, -0/+8Needs more Skinny Cow (Although, I'm not sure if they do straight-up ice cream). Their ice cream sandwiches and whatnot only go on sale like once or twice a year, unfortunately.
Edy's/Dreyers is good stuff too, usually goes Buy One, Get One Free every couple weeks. - cshbell, on 06/13/2008, -1/+8Being healthy isn't just about lower fat and fewer calories. Many of these products contain chemically-processed artificial flavorings, sweeteners, and emulsifiers that are also unhealthy for you. Although we typically think of ice cream as "junk food," unless you are on a calorie-restricted or low-fat diet from your doctor, go for the Häagen-Dazs or other brands that use real milk, sugar, and all natural ingredients. Your body knows how to process those things; chemicals and highly-refined sweeteners, on the other hand, it has a problem with.
- AtomBoyz, on 06/13/2008, -1/+7With the warm weather we've been having lately, this looks really good...

Dugg! - inactive, on 06/13/2008, -1/+5Perhaps you've never heard of it because it's worthless *****. I'm positive the unorganic varieties don't use pesticides in their ice cream either. Every manufacturer is just trying to slap the word "organic" on their products to be trendy and get pompous retards to buy it, even when the term organic really just means "unsustainable."
- waydee, on 06/13/2008, -0/+3Whats with all these healthiest unhealthy food lists recently?
Heres my philosophy - everything in moderation, then you can have whatever you want and not have to worry about a few calories here or there between brands. - 808ethan, on 06/13/2008, -1/+4Body knows how to proccess - good
Natural - means *****.
There are many natural neurotoxins out there that your body doesn't process so well. - Mootabolife, on 06/13/2008, -2/+5Pinkberry in NY has healthy frozen yogurt which actually has a hint of yogurt. It's a bit pricey, but I've never tasted anything like it. If you're in the area I highly recommend a try.
- killerbob2323, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2I LOVE ICE CREAM!!
- Owwmykneecap, on 06/13/2008, -3/+5Cranberry juice is excellent as a drink.
even better with Vodka. - fionasummers, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2The low fat ice cream from Breyer's and Edy's tastes just as good as the higher fat ice creams. It's better for your body to eat healthy, and you also get to eat something you enjoy.
- ry4nsm1th, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2They aren't claiming these to be healthy. They are saying that if you like ice cream (who doesn't?) then maybe you should opt for these because they are better than others. Read the ***** title.
- webkami, on 06/13/2008, -3/+5Dugg for 1 page and very nice format.
enough for commenting......
OM NOM NOM NOM - TequilaCollins, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Low fat is OK, but a lot of manufacturers add even more sugar to compensate. Everyone should read the ingredients first.
- vidaliasweet, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Depends on your idea of healthy. I always buy Ben and Jerry's because they use milk that doesn't have RBGH.
- fungistratus, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2I got Edy's Slow Churned PEACH Ice Cream in my freezer and its really really good.
- gartmansays, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Not to mention the fact that a major part of cutting fat content in those ice creams is done by whipping more air into the mix. More volume = less ice cream. Basically they've got you paying for the same product, just less of it. Try picking up a carton of regular Edy's and then a carton of the healthy stuff sometime. The healthy stuff is lighter.
- thirty6chambers, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2I thought that fad was over. anyways, i never saw what was so great about it.
- noblepenguin, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Dugg for The Departed.
- TheCash, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Who eats only half a cup of ice cream? Who came up with these serving amounts for that matter?
You know what half a cup equals? Three spoonfuls. Dig in! - DigitAl56K, on 06/13/2008, -1/+22/7 of those products *are* Häagen-Dazs.
- joevill, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Skinny Cow is amazing!
- brianoh, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1They're also located all around LA/OC, with Red Mango up in Palo Alto. The thing is, while it is good, it's not as healthy as people say it is. It's 25 calories for ONE OUNCE, not including toppings. lol.
- Owwmykneecap, on 06/13/2008, -3/+4Eating healthy Ice cream???
You're doing it wrong. - worseforwine, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Oh my god, this article has me so hungry for chemicals. I'm so glad chemicals have fewer calories than natural ingredients because they taste so goddamn good!
- Seventus, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Yes, we've moved on to frozen custard!
- FloorModel, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2Yea! the healthier the ice cream the more syrup and whipped cream I can put on top!
- louiedog, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2And honey is for bees. And fruit is to help a plant reproduce by encouraging animals to spread the seeds. When you throw out that apple core or orange seeds you're committing fruiticide by not giving them a chance to grow. I'm pretty sure eating a modern cultivated banana without seeds is as bad as the holocaust. Won't someone think of the fruit!
Seriously. Milk is for baby cows is about the worst argument in existence. Our lives are filled with things far more unnatural than drinking another animal's milk. My body is capable of digesting it, so I'm going to consume it. I don't care if it's for me or not. If there were baby cows starving to death, I'd reconsider it, but there aren't, so I won't. - donna1234, on 09/22/2008, -0/+1 taste test for seven of the healthiest (and best-tasting) ice creams and frozen desserts

- snuffulupagus, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1If you're serious about really good, healthy ice cream, make your own! The book Vice Cream has a lot of ice cream recipes that are made out of Cashew butter and dairy free, so if you want something with no fat which is more creamy than sorbets, it's a good option :)
- brainclog, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1Why don't YOU read the ***** title? "Taste Test: The 7 HEALTHIEST Ice Creams...". *****. A healthier ice cream would be one made with natural ingredients, i.e. REAL GODDAMN SUGAR. I hope you enjoy your life with diabetes.
- beauley, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1In order to sell food to millions of consumers, the food industry must make it appealing to as many as possible, from the young child to the elderly. In order to accomplish this, individual food suppliers use additives to make their foods taste better.
http://www.gomestic.com/Consumer-Information/Are-T ...
Are There Hidden Additives in Our Foods? - louiedog, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Somebody dugg you down for that. I guess they don't want to admit they've wasted their money. I wonder if it costs the stores the same. The crappy market near me that only gets my business because they're open late charges $1 more for the churned stuff. If anything, you'd think Edy's/Dreyer's would charge them less. Maybe they realize they can make money off of suckers. People around here tend to eat healthily, and the market is very greedy, which is the reason I don't like to go there.
- louiedog, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1That churned stuff? Yeah, you're paying for air. Just buy the regular stuff and eat a little less.
- freyaXgefn, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Thank you kindly for pointing that out. I was just thinking the same thing as I was going down the list.
- beauley, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1If they contain MSG, they are not to be considered healthy. MSG is added to ice cream for "taste", the marketing tool of all processed foods.
- betona, on 06/13/2008, -1/+1I like Edy's just fine. You do know it's owned by Nestle, right?
Breyers, not so much.
And I don't give a rat's ass about the healthiness factor when it comes to ice cream. - inactive, on 06/13/2008, -2/+2Can you show the scientific studies that show without a shadow of a doubt that those flavorings, sweeteners, and emulsifiers are "unhealthy"? Otherwise you're just using the fallacy that since the ingredients don't naturally occur in nature they're bad for you, which is a pretty dumb.
- kdfrawg, on 06/12/2008, -5/+5Anything frozen and healthy goes right on my list!

- marinebro0306, on 06/13/2008, -2/+1Forget about being healthy, I'm still eating the delicious flavor with chunks of cookie dough in it.
- brstilson, on 06/13/2008, -3/+2Attention fat people reading this article:
Unless it's made of grass and twigs, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "HEALTHY" ICE CREAM. There is more to healthy eating than just calories and fat grams.
The title of this article should be "7 Ice Creams That You Can Eat For A Little Bit Longer Than Usual Before They Give You A Coronary."
Please do not use this article to justify your midnight snacking habits and then complain when you balloon up yet another 25 pounds. - skymint, on 06/13/2008, -1/+0aw man...just when I'm about to go to bed
- brainclog, on 06/13/2008, -6/+4This article is a LIE! Less calories does not mean healthy. They probably all have partially hydrogenated oils and or high fructose corn syrup. The only ice cream I buy is the ones made with sugar. Bryers actually has one they market as "Natural", but certain flavors of that even have corn syrup. Packaging is *****, check the ingredients people and DEMAND the FDA to take this poison out of our foods.
