- meandnips, on 01/13/2008, -3/+26Eating a nourishing, well prepared and presented meal is one of life's great pleasures, as is making that sort of meal for friends and family. I would much rather feed my body and soul that way than gulp a bunch of pills while staring into a bathroom mirror
- homedaddy, on 01/13/2008, -4/+21Why can't people just eat good food. There are ways to be efficient and to eat both foods that are good for you and sustainable. We order from local farmers and pick it up once a week. Incredibly healthy and efficient.
- rhabd0mancer, on 01/13/2008, -2/+16I can't see myself driving out into the middle of nowhere to pick up a dozen eggs and some goat milk, especially with gas approaching $4/gal.
- honestlywhagwan, on 01/13/2008, -2/+15because bad foods are delicious
- discodave12, on 01/13/2008, -5/+17Technology continues to abstract the human from the human experience.... ~sigh~.
- watersfine, on 01/13/2008, -1/+13Hey why not we take a pill for everything else. It's easy that way!
- rumplestiltz, on 01/13/2008, -1/+13I usually chase my bigmac with a multi-vitamin....it makes me feel better
- JulieBrownfield, on 01/13/2008, -1/+11This whole industry has lost me as to whether we need these daily allowances. They just seem to go up and up and we seem to get less healthy. Look at the Parisians. They drink, eat fatty foods BUT they eat fresh food. Yes they buy that pig the week it was killed not in thin slices in packages that say good for a really really long time. If you are a vegetarian they also eat fresh veggies and not premade in cans all the time. Fresh food please.
- rnwen2750, on 01/13/2008, -2/+10Because some people cannot afford that.
- trystero49, on 01/13/2008, -1/+8I wonder how many 'natural' vitamin companies are actually big drug companies?
- socialdork, on 01/13/2008, -1/+8I think it's obvious...there is a lot of money to be made if we all just take a pill. Personally I enjoy eating. I would hate to be limited to knocking back a few pills and then having reached my caloric limit.
- rnwen2750, on 01/13/2008, -1/+6Fast food can be very affordable and will keep the average person sated for much longer and take less time to prepare.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -3/+8I always get my science news from the "Body & Soul" section [just next to the Astrology and Dreams sections] of "DivineCaroline.com". I can't wait to hear their opinion on the LHC superconducting magnets.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+5One supplement that I take religiously is my Fish Oil.
Got to have my Omega 3's that are so damned hard to get living in the USA. - slayerab, on 01/13/2008, -2/+7I usually chase a chicken around in a circle for twenty minutes after a bigmac, makes me feel better
- Grok22, on 01/13/2008, -0/+5many nutrients prevent abzorbtion of others, such as zinc and calcium.
- spudnic, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5Processed crap is much, much, cheaper than decent quality healthy food.
Go to your nearest supermarket and look at the prices of the own brand crap in the freezer section, then go see if you could make the same for less money with ingredients from local farms etc. - and303, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5No.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -1/+5If I don't get my goat milk supplement in the mornings, I'm a wreck all afternoon!
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4+1, Julie.
The whole campaign against fat is a farce. Fat is a vital macronutrient. Avoidance of processed food is the key to any healthy diet whether you eat meat or not. - inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+4Walnuts are kind of expensive and I eat some flaxseed, but popping a few fish oil caps after a meal is a bit easier for me.
- MikeSD34, on 01/13/2008, -2/+6You try putting down a bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, it's just not possible! Juicy stake, delicious chicken breast, so many tasty animals, so little time!
- implode, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3I view the RDA increasing on many products as a representation of the deterioration of quality of food myself. Organic, fresh, ALIVE foods are really the way to go.
- aqzman, on 01/13/2008, -1/+4Personally, I'd rather take 3 pills a day in place of meals. It would probably be a lot better for my body then what I eat now (I'm not exactly a health nut, I tend to go for the fastest/cheapest food). So for me, it would really boil down to the price of these pills over the price of actual food. But some people just love to eat, so pills wouldn't exactly be perfect for everyone.
- dannyboy3020, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Technology is a direct result of the human experience.
- blast_flame, on 01/13/2008, -0/+3Being human is overrated. As soon as the technology comes out I'm uploading my mind to a computer. See you later meatbags!
- DiggieDarko, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2I'd rather hear what she has to say about supplements than your thoughts on... Wait, what are you talking about again?
- MFallopian, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3We'll find out over time, it's like a huge public beta test.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3I bet the brands at the national chains are all big pharma.
- ShadowBlitz, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Fish oil is the one supplement everyone needs. 12-15g a day improved my thought clarity a ton and body composition slightly. When I eventually start to want to lost weight, 30-45g a day, ala Charles Poliquin (awesome strength coach). Punch in any common disease and "fish oil" and find out how great it is.
- goosecat, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Yes, the supplement industry will live very well off of your purchases of supplements.
- cactus476, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3What's with all the divinecaroline.com submissions today?
- mos6507, on 01/13/2008, -1/+3Is there really such a thing as "local food" everywhere in the US? Farming has almost completely receded away from major metropolitan areas.
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2There's so little regulation with supplements, you can pretty much claim anything: "Promotes clean thoughts and good drinking water"
- sullyz0r, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2Celery?
- LeeSoong, on 01/13/2008, -0/+2Eat Both
- noctu, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2pops some pills, ok I had my dinner back to gaming!
- inactive, on 01/13/2008, -3/+4My big question: What are all these hundreds of supplements in a single vitamin interacting with each other? Who knows what's going on in your stomach!
- ICanRead, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Feed your soul....
- rnwen2750, on 01/13/2008, -2/+3While I agree with you, many counties have coops with farmers and you can pick up the food at convenient place in town.
- DiggieDarko, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Very enlightened commentary...
- katrayun, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2It's amazing how in most places you don't have to do that. There are natural food stores and co-ops everywhere these days.
- Yage2006, on 01/13/2008, -1/+2Actualy taking the vitamins out of many foods runes there nutritional value.
Also many suppliments either do nothing for you or are dangerous or bad for your health .
I suggest anyone doing so to do a little research into it from non-bias sources. - doommetal, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1If people only took pills and didn't eat their stomachs would be ruined over time
- grakker, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1That and overbreeding. I don't know why people don't talk about that.
- ShadowBlitz, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Flaxseed oil has poor conversion to Omega 3s. Your body doesn't have to convert fish oil.
- vikki77, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Was the paragraph on the last page really necessary? They just had to squeeze one more page hit out of me.
- DiggieDarko, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Good advice, thanks!
- elliotm01, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1Raw as opposed to cooked food greatly impacts the available enzymes which are available to aid in digesting the food. High temperatures (from what I've read around 104 F) destroy these enzymes. While our own body can make up for this, it is limited. Research raw food. http://rawfoods.com/
- DiggieDarko, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Popcorn? (air popped no butter, how freakin' boring. Pass the celery :)
