- inactive, on 01/20/2009, -8/+35I am a stern opponent of any limits of alcoholic consumption, this is a travesty...TOO THE STREETS!!
- HOWDOYOUKNOW, on 01/20/2009, -0/+25
They used to allow alcohol "to go" in Bars all over Rome?? Sounds like they were New Orleans on steroids! - slvrbullet87, on 01/20/2009, -1/+22They did this in my home town about 2 years back... you couldnt buy booze after 8 pm. All that happend was you bought an extra 2 cases so you wouldnt run out and then end up drinking more. Or everybody drove to the next town drunk and bought more booze.
- keltin, on 01/20/2009, -4/+22The socialists who are now embedded in the Italian power structure, vowed to changed all rules they were not comfortable with, from a morality standpoint. Seems strange, that they are more strict than the Catholic Church, but there you have it.
It is as if several layers of guv regulation can fix anything, the more draconian the better. - Hetman, on 01/20/2009, -2/+14Well at least you do not live in America. Almost every state has a time when you have to stop selling take outs. There are exceptions. There are still dry counties in the US. This means that you cannot buy or sale alcohol in that county. You can bring it in but it cannot be sold or bought there. In most states it is against the law to drink in public. Again a few exceptions like Vegas and New Orleans come to mind but most of the time it is still illlegal. Finally in Indiana you can get a charge called Public Intoxication. I am not talking disorderly conduct or something along those lines. I am saying if your Blood Alcohol content is above .08% they can legally arrest you for PI. Again depending on what city in Indiana you are in, it can be enforced or ignored. The point is America has some stupid ass alcohol laws.
- choopie911, on 01/22/2009, -0/+11When I was in Rome I was walking past the train station and saw this charming man:

Yelling at the police wearing nothing but his socks. - yocouchdigga, on 01/22/2009, -1/+10AZ has that same dumbass Public Intox. Law... ***** nailed me walking home to my apartment (from the bar) in my complex. Blew a .12 and had to go to ***** classes, wound up costing like $500 bucks in fees all because I didn't drive drunk and was responsible.
- Nauree, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6Um. Its legal to take your booze in public in Louisiana.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+6I never understood this. Are you supposed to teleport home from a bar?
- Cloned, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5I also live in AZ. It's illegal to be intoxicated in a bar (not sure if it's state or local), so the bouncers kick the drunks out the bars, where it is illegal to be intoxicated in public. If you pass out outside, you're not only breaking public drunkenness laws, but also anti-camping ordinances that they'll fine you with.
- UncleCrapper, on 01/21/2009, -0/+5After a strapping pint of your favorite beer, of course.
- fant0m, on 01/22/2009, -0/+5They wanted you to roller skate home. Duh.
- Nauree, on 01/22/2009, -1/+6Like you'd go there just to drink. Whatever
- hdar3415, on 01/20/2009, -3/+7This is how bootlegging starts.
- Redorb1790, on 01/22/2009, -1/+5WE SHALL BUY IT AT EIGHT THEN!
- inactive, on 01/21/2009, -1/+5of course
- waterboy1628, on 01/22/2009, -1/+5next thing you know, they will be calling it pennsylvania
- benicillin1, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4most people get drinks to go in italy so long as theyre not sitting down to have dinner. its beautiful being outside at night with all those people and not stuffed up inside a bar.
- Nauree, on 01/22/2009, -1/+5***** You Police.
- floridiot2, on 01/22/2009, -0/+4You should have passed out in the alley way like every other normal person.
- cambob76, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3tamp down?
- Hobbes24, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3guess they'll have to stock up ahead of time
- philz, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3In Europe, it's legal to take your booze in public in pretty much every country south of the scandics (Sweden, Finnland - not sure about Denmark).

http://www.askmen.com/top_10/travel_200/218_travel ... - yocouchdigga, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3apparently... I don't understand how it'd legal to get trashed at a bar and illegal to walk outside of it. Makes no sense to me.
- lisaawesome, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3A lot of states have PI laws (maybe all?). I think it's ridiculous. If you aren't causing a scene or disturbing anything I don't understand how they can justify these laws. It is perfectly legal to drink and get drunk if you are over 21 so why can't you be drunk outside? And in your specific case Hetman you were taking the safe route and walking home! Would the people creating and enforcing these laws rather you drive drunk? I'd rather have a drunk walker who falls over and hurts themself than a drunk driver who slams 5000 pounds of metal into other people.
- Appleologist, on 01/22/2009, -4/+7to
</grammar-police> - Commonwealth, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3You can get your booze to go in Savannah, Georgia as long as it's in a plastic cup.
- choopie911, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3That's a pretty common cut off time for bars.
- SeaweedWater, on 01/20/2009, -1/+4They have some amazing pub crawls in Rome.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3I wasn't drunk in 'public', officer, I was drunk in a 'bar'. They THREW me into 'public'.
- forsight, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3I lived in Sicily, it was so odd to pull up to a hut on the side of the road, purchase our drinks and carry on our journey. Gotta love Italy!
- lisaawesome, on 01/22/2009, -0/+3We can't even buy cold beer in Oklahoma! And I know someone will bring this up so I mean REAL beer. Not low point piss water. That you can purchase cold.
- LexWalk, on 01/20/2009, -1/+4You can put limits on National Sports?
- mixomatosys, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3and wait.. where's rome again?
- myk7, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2what city do you live in?
- makkaveli19, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2thats some stupid law. can't be drunk in public. the worst you get here in vancouver is a trip in the drunk tank if you're rowdy.
- yocouchdigga, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3or Las Vegas on... Las Vegas?
- mmittimm, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2This isn't really news; tons of cities have limitations on when you can buy liquor, including mine. All it means is you have to get on the ball and start partying earlier.
- inactive, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2Oh NO! Now we can't buy liquor after 9 PM... at least... not liquor that I'm going to leave the bar with.
- mu0p, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3I think the worst law is in Cali...the no selling past 2 AM, and that bars/clubs must close at 2 AM, this forces most club/bar goers to drink as much as they can before 2, then once 2 hits, they are FORCED to leave the building and must either A. Drive or B. Get a Cab, or C. obviously walk. And after 2, since little if not nothing is open, people are left with no other alternative place to go hang out and sober up. While I was in japan, they allowed people to stay in the clubs till 5 am so they could sober up before they left, occasionally I even saw people sleeping on the couches/chairs. Where as if you are seen taking a nap, and or too drunk in a club here in cali, your kicked out... The worst is that most places in LA, bouncers walk around TAKING your drinks from your hands at about 1:45 since state law says NO ONE is allowed to have a alcoholic beverage past 2, so they take a drink you paid for, or make you "chug" it then take the glass away from you, since they are scared they will be fined.
All im saying is, people in LA go out around 11pm, then drink till about 1ish, in which around 2 they are pretty wasted, and at that time they are asked to leave. Its always like "Hey ok your drunk, now gtfo of my bar, goodbye, and goodluck getting home" - 2ptyou, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2The terrorists have won!
- ptsuk, on 01/22/2009, -1/+3So a few bad apples spoil it for all..........damnit........This is why we can't have nice things!!!!
- billessig, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2That one country that looks suspiciously like a boot.
- drgmdp, on 01/22/2009, -0/+2college city in winter, turistic city in summer
- Durrok, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1I also live in Indiana and was busted with PI (long story short, I was walking from my apartment inside the apartment complex from another apartment in the same apartment complex). I spoke to a few cops and here is how the basically explained it:
Too many people were causing disturbances to the peace but usually when the cops showed up everyone quieted down. Since it wasn't illegal to be drunk in public, the cops couldn't do anything besides harass them and as soon as they would leave the drunks would start up again. So they passed this law in response to that and it was quickly abused. - RageMoreJacko, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I drank wherever I wanted back then.
- JCEEZ, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1sad thing is, that this still seems more lax then California. No alcohol after 2am is the worst!
Drinking in public, 24/7 is allowed in all of Asia... yet they don't have a problem with disorderly drunks. Imagine if all those gnarly ass vending machines in Japan were in America, and there were people boozing in the streets. It makes you think....... - drgmdp, on 01/22/2009, -0/+1mar del plata, argentina (it's in my profile..)
it's not like they're not open earlier, but the peak time is between 2 - 5 am. discos are open til 8 or later, it depends. - inactive, on 01/20/2009, -14/+15i guess i can check italy off my list of countries i want to visit
