- KMye, on 05/30/2009, -1/+26I'm still confused as to why Oregon has this puritanical ***** in the first place. We should be able to buy our liquor in Safeway like normal people...
- shakabrah, on 05/30/2009, -0/+24You can drink in Oregon, but be careful not to get dysentery.
- yournightmare, on 05/30/2009, -1/+14You guys can't even pump your own gas, why do you think you should be able to go to Safeway or Fred Meyer to buy liquor?
- gbudavid, on 05/30/2009, -0/+10Oregon Controls everything about liquor, The Price the availability and the tax. It is a revenue getter
- booyahbitch, on 05/30/2009, -0/+9Yeah...liquor laws suck, but that website is just freaking awesome!!!
- scentaroom, on 05/30/2009, -3/+10I need a drink
- magneteye, on 05/31/2009, -0/+7Yeah, but here in Portland we have more strip clubs and bars per capita than any other city in the country. And you can drink, eat a steak, play video poker, and see fully nude ladies here, unlike most states where its topless only when there's alcohol present. I LOVE PORTLAND!
- Greengoo, on 05/30/2009, -0/+7You have killed 2401 pounds of meat, but you are only able to carry 200.
- bringinSXEback, on 05/30/2009, -0/+5CAN'T pump our own gas? Not having to pump your own gas is the coolest thing ever. Of course we pay a little more for it, but whatever...
- stevets, on 05/30/2009, -0/+4It is one of the many leftovers of the Full Stead Act.
Side Note: If you are a proponent of Marijuana Legalization, then you should be happy that the OLCC is there. In the event of legalization, there will be a need for a regulatory commission to oversee marijuana production, distribution, and taxation. In this regard, the OLCC is your friend.
On the other hand, the whole liquor store thing is kind of annoying. I would love to be able to go to Costco and buy liquor like in Nevada. Costco sized bottles of Grey Goose and Makers Mark are a modern marvel. - Greengoo, on 05/30/2009, -0/+4Here in Michigan we not only sell Liquor everywhere, we even have drive-through places where you can buy it.
Even I'm not quite sure about that one. - ebcreasoner, on 05/30/2009, -1/+5Is it time for a potty break and a nap allready
- arbulus, on 05/30/2009, -0/+3no bubba don't?
- dylicious, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3No Big Deal
- damonic, on 05/30/2009, -1/+4There's an app for that.
- digglerz000, on 05/30/2009, -2/+5I grew up on Oregon and thought having to go to a liquor store to be idiotic. If Oregon is such a green state; I wonder how lower a carbon footprint there would be if you could buy liquor at Wal-Mart/food store. I'm in Texas now and just got back last night from Wal-Mart with a 5th of Vodka, Gears of War 2 and some laundry soap.
Go Beavers! - DickyT83, on 05/30/2009, -0/+3never back down?
- Twenty, on 05/31/2009, -0/+3Best idea ever.
- lisaawesome, on 05/30/2009, -0/+3We can't even buy real beer or wine in a grocery store in Oklahoma so I wouldn't cry too much.
- magneteye, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2Uh, I do, I work at a Strip Club,
- srs2000, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2Where is TX are you finding vodka at walmart?
Every city I have been to only sells beer and wine in stores.. You have to go to a liquor store to buy hard liquor. - KMye, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2I recently moved back to Oregon after a decade in California, and at first, the gas thing annoyed me to no end, but eventually, except for the odd time when I'm running late for something and it's taking a long time for the attendant to get around, it kinda grew on me, as I think it does most people. It's weird. And it's still cheaper than 90% of Cali.
(Fred Meyer, lol. Good OR reference) - KMye, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2*****, point taken. You guys must buy your liquor in survivalist quantities...
- t3hbagel, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2We have to buy hard liquor in state-run stores here in Washington, too.
- swissjames, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2In communist Russia, liquor finds you!
- agentbob, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2they have one.
- pdxtian, on 05/31/2009, -0/+2As an Oregonian, IMHO it's really not that bad. Liquor stores are all over the place with some actually being connected to grocery stores. The bad part is that they close really early. So if you want to get ***** after 7pm you have to go to a bar. Lame.
- nsummy, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2I agree, the first time I went to an Oregon gas station I thought I was getting carjacked when the guy came up along my car. Its a policy I find strange, but the really annoying part is you cannot even pump your own gas if the station is closed. I was in a small town late at night &low on gas and I had to drive 20 miles just to fuel up.
- Aadain, on 05/30/2009, -0/+2Eh, doesn't bother me. What can they do with that info? Its not like they send me spam or junk mail trying to get me to buy more of <favorite brand here>. Not subscribing to the "if you have nothing to hide you shouldn't worry" mentality, but in this case it really is useless information.
- ds143, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2wait...what? what makes oregon's liquor policy different from the other states?
- partrow, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Yep, if you want to buy liquor in Oregon, you have to buy it from the government.
- CrazyArcher, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1***** yes Oregon.
- partrow, on 05/30/2009, -1/+2Does it concern any of you Oregonians and Washingtonians that the state government can track your personal liquor purchases? No problem to pull up how much of which type you bought, and when, and maintain those in the database.
Would they pull the data if there is an alcohol related crime or incident that you were involved in?
And I bet they have you on timestamped video for every visit, huh? - Ishiguro, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Plus quite a few Texas counties are dry, and you have to be a member of private clubs to drink at restaurants.
- bcronos, on 05/30/2009, -2/+3I grew up in Orygun, the OLCC is completely outdated. You have to buy hard liquor at state run liquor stores. But like every other govt bureaucracy, it will probably never die... They think they're "helping" you and "protecting" you... from what nobody's quite sure anymore...
- cagoldenshowers, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1i would be pissed if my alcohol consumption was that controlled. i enjoy being able to go to any grocery store, gas station, club store, beverages and more, etc to get my drink on. OPTIONS.
- ebcreasoner, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1Denied! We feel evil today.
- coastiefish, on 05/30/2009, -0/+1This store is presently not transmitting inventory data. Please contact the store directly for available inventory quantities.
What is the point of this? - elevatordisco, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1They aren't state run here in Alaska, but we do have a limited number of permits per borough and it can't be sold in the grocery store/gas station, it must be a liquor store. What is it with the mid-west/west coast and alcohol? (Yes, I consider Alaska part of the west coast).
- magneteye, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1You like pumping your gas? You make it sound like getting full service is a BAD thing. Not to mention, one of the reasons for doing this is to employ thousands of people. It is a win-win situation.
- lisaawesome, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1When you live here you learn to plan ahead and always have extra on hand. Liquor stores close by 9pm and are closed all day Sunday too. Nothing is worse than running out of alcohol at 9:30pm. I wish all states would get rid of these puritanical liquor laws. It's ridiculous.
- snickysnack, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1It would be nice to be able to buy liquor at Trader Joe's here in Oregon.
I'm sick of payin 26 bucks for a bottle of Bombay at liquor stores. - skyred, on 06/01/2009, -0/+1http://greatbrewers.com for beer finder
- magneteye, on 05/31/2009, -0/+1Sure, but there is also NO sales tax in Oregon, so I win! (I don't drink liquor).
- Elranzer, on 05/31/2009, -1/+2You have no jobs, though.
- loudthing, on 05/30/2009, -1/+1We have something like this for Toronto.
www.beerhunter.ca
Works for some other cities in Ontario as well. - kingnova, on 05/31/2009, -0/+0"Not having to pump your own gas is the coolest thing ever."
You lead a sad life, if not pumping gas is at the top of your excitement list.
I wonder about the gas station pumpers in Oregon. They are breathing fumes all day long. That CAN'T be healthy.
Have there been any studies of the long term effects? - carcharadon, on 06/01/2009, -0/+0OLCC regulates and enforces alcohol laws. They send a minor into a bar to see if they can get a drink, if so, the olcc fines the bar. If you're a restaurant or bar and get a violation with fines usually over 1k. OLCC will also go into bars and make sure everyone has a valid ID and are of age. (Never been in a bar when that happened, but working in a restaurant I know it happens. We've passed several "stings").
Also as a server, if I get a violation from the OLCC I could get fined and lose my liquor license (to serve alcohol) and subsequently my job.
Oregon is relaxed compared to utah and colorado. We have the best beer in the nation :)
Plus, why is the olcc wasting oregonian's money on this website?? If I need to search for a liquor store i'll just go straight to google maps (which the site uses... hmm). The website is a waste of time and money. -
