- whoreable, on 03/22/2009, -0/+7Nutmeg is a helluva drug.
- dilbert, on 03/22/2009, -0/+6FTA: "Mustard seeds contain lots of protective substances called phytochemicals".
Phytochemicals is just a fancy word for plant chemicals. Phytochemicals are in every plant. - gaoshan, on 03/22/2009, -0/+6Regarding cinammon as an anti-diabetes agent the article states, "consuming less than a 1/4 a day reduced blood sugar ..." a 1/4 of what? 1/4 of an ounce? 1/4 of a metric ton?
- Amadeus2490, on 03/22/2009, -1/+6Dugg for turmeric.
- garlicdeath, on 03/22/2009, -0/+5You know, I am missing the days when articles of maybe a page length would be one single page. I know this one was only 2 pages but it seems ad revenue sites are just getting out of hand. Digg me down, but I have not complained about the page length in any submission until now... about a stupid "healthy spices for food" article of all things. Yes I know, this particular submission is only barely past a page normally compared to others where it's 4 sentences a page but I think the multiple page thing is finally starting to get to me.
ANYWAYS...
I heard hangovers are caused by two things: Dehydration and inflammation of <insert organs/body parts that I forgot what they were>, so would cinnamon be a good thing to start shoveling into your mouth before you pass out or wake up? - fotoman, on 03/22/2009, -1/+6coriander != cilantro. One is a tasty spice, the other is a an herb that tastes like soap! :?
Coriander is the seed from which cilantro grows. COMPLETELY different tastes/flavors. - caoimhinn, on 03/22/2009, -0/+4I'm a little disappointed Old Bay isn't on there.
- caoimhinn, on 03/22/2009, -0/+4None of these are native to Arrakis.
- sweeneyowns, on 03/22/2009, -1/+5... health be damned! where is the bacon salt?
- R75700, on 03/22/2009, -1/+4cayenne pepper. A spice that is used to treat sore throats and helps speed up metabolism.
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+3All spices are good. That's why they're spices.
- the2989, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2I came to this page just to be the first to say "weed", but that didn't really work out.
- Amadeus2490, on 03/22/2009, -1/+3What about the spice Melan -
FFFUUUUUU- - bdbr, on 03/22/2009, -0/+2Its not the marijuana that's unhealthy, its all those bags of Cheetos that you end up eating afterward.
- whoreable, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1You eat it. 2 teaspoons. Look it up on erowid toughguy.
- Telekenesis, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Well I guess the curries I have started making for myself are good for me. I got mustard in there, tumeric, clove, coriander, cumin, ginger, garlic, cilantro sometimes, sometimes a bit of star anise, cinnamon, cayenne and lots of other stuff. Delicious and good for me.
- GavinZac, on 03/22/2009, -1/+2"Since Biblical times"?
Apart from how vague that is, I'd imagine we've been rubbing tasty stuff on non-tasty stuff for hundreds of millenia. - inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Tabasco
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Funny that.
- bdbr, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Are you washing your cilantro with soap or something?!? I love cilantro! (and coriander, but you're right they're totally different tastes)
- the2989, on 03/23/2009, -0/+1Nutmeg is a ***** drug. Better being sober than on nutmeg.
- bdbr, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1A lot of American and European cooking gets its flavor from fat and sugar. I think the biggest benefit from spices is that it allows you to prepare food that is tasty but not fattening.
- Lagstorm, on 03/22/2009, -3/+1Habanero!
- niseeta, on 05/06/2009, -0/+0Quite a week, indeed. - http://www.proskintreatment.info/
- MrMayBeBanned, on 03/22/2009, -0/+0Here's a one sentence summary of the article: A bunch of spices fight inflammation.
- garlicdeath, on 03/22/2009, -0/+0The whole smoking it is a myth you know.
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -1/+0Loving my flavor saver goatie. Twice the spice at half the price!
- NutriMom32, on 04/08/2009, -0/+0I completely agree with the health benefits of these spices - that is why I cook with them ALL the time. Try cooking the turmeric in some canola oil - it is one of the better ways to ingest it it for better absorption. Also - buy ground turmeric from a spice shop! The turmeric you buy in the spice section at the supermarket is typically not 100% turmeric.
- the2989, on 03/22/2009, -1/+1powderized magic mushrooms
- chiropam, on 03/22/2009, -1/+0Agreed - great health benefits.
- juandres, on 03/23/2009, -0/+0Aways i use species when i cooking because that permeates the flavor and aroma at all foods, but i never thought the aditional benefits these foods.
Thank you very much for the article.
