- EMFK, on 03/24/2009, -0/+62When I think 'healthy', McDonald's and Big Mac never enter my mind. Maybe it's just me.
- GutterMoo, on 03/24/2009, -1/+24Fast food places really shouldn't be allowed to use the term "healthy" until something is deemed to actually be good for your health. Salads and fruit parfaits in fast food places are labeled as healthy alternatives, when in fact, they have just as many calories and grams of fat as everything else.
- eliot2000, on 03/24/2009, -0/+21"...The restaurant is also testing an even healthier version of the Big Mac which consists of a box with a note inside asking the purchaser to go home and cook something themselves."
- hoju7887, on 03/24/2009, -0/+16I've actually tried this. It's genius. It's exactly what it says it is...a snack size Big Mac. I think anything that encourages smaller portions is a good thing. And it tastes like a Big Mac so I'm not complaining.
- nimblethimble, on 03/24/2009, -4/+20I'd pass. The only thing at Mc D's my stomach can handle is the ice cream.
- texburgle, on 03/24/2009, -0/+15If only this was a "Snack Wrap McRib"...
- skuzzed, on 03/24/2009, -0/+14So they choose one of the states with the highest obesity levels to test a new healthy product?
I can see what is going to happen here, it is going to be a huge failure, then McDonalds can say "people don't want healthy foods, we've done research."
I don't buy it. - stephhicks68, on 03/24/2009, -1/+14Sounds awful! LOL
- tbhurst, on 03/24/2009, -1/+13No offense to Houstonians (or Canadians), but after visiting Houston recently, I'd have to say that quite a few people in this city could use some healthier foods in their diet.
- gr33k, on 03/24/2009, -0/+12Coming from someone who's actually tried it.....It's not healthy at all:
Half of a Quarter Pounder Patty
Cheese
MAC sauce
lettuce
and a wrap - tommyhat, on 03/24/2009, -1/+12This is the laziest looking promotion ever. They just cut a patty in half and put it in the chicken wrap.
Here's your food you useless person. - davidg11, on 03/24/2009, -0/+11Hmm...I can't be the only person that loves the Big Mac's creamy, beefy goodness.
Now why did that sound dirty and gay? - inactive, on 03/24/2009, -1/+11Even that stuff leaves me with a distinct McFeeling in my gut.
- kierucom, on 03/24/2009, -0/+10So we are going with the idea that the 'unhealthy' part of a Big Mac is the bread?
- MarkBrent, on 03/24/2009, -2/+10McFlurry FTW!
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7Those three words don't go together.
- MarkusX, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7"Healthy Big Mac" is an Oxymoron !!!
- ASfinkterSezWut, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7"Healthy people" don't eat at McDonalds.
- jakamahaka, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7Other Variants of the Big Mac include:
* The Mega Mac or Double Big Mac - four 1.6 oz (45.4 g) beef patties and an extra slice of cheese. Available in China, Ireland, Serbia, Japan, Turkey, Malaysia and Thailand (Double Big Mac). Discontinued in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, limited availability in the United States and Canada (where it is commonly marketed under the name Double Big Mac).
* Monster Mac - eight 1.6 oz (45.4 g) beef patties and extra cheese. Discontinued in Germany.
* the Mckinley-Mac - made with two quarter pound patties. Named after Mt. McKinley in Alaska, and sold only in that state. Also known as the Bigger Big Mac as an LTO product to celebrate the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
* In India, where Hindus do not eat beef, the Big Mac was renamed the Maharaja Mac and was originally made with lamb instead of beef; however, along with the company's other items it is now made from chicken.
* Son of Mac - Also known as the Mini Mac or Baby Mac, a version with only one patty and no center roll piece. It sold as a Baby Mac in New Zealand, Was sold in Australia, now discontinued. Served by some stores in the United States under the moniker "Mac Jr".
* In Israel, where religious Jews do not mix dairy and meat products, a special Kosher version of the Big Mac is served without cheese.
* In Japan, there was a variant with egg, called the Mega Tamago, as well as a variant with tomato (called the Mega Tomato). Both versions dropped one patty and replaced it with the respective ingredient. Now discontinued.
(Wikipedia) - rejectnation, on 03/24/2009, -3/+10Houston and Canada.. obvious choices for where to test this.
- Kiolva, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7Canada sure looks like a wide market to test a product on, whereas Houston seems too confined.
- DarkPilot, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6Everyone I talk to hates them, but me, I ***** LOVE them.
It's a Big Mac in Tortilla! How could this not be a good idea? It tastes like a Big Mac and nothing falls out the back of the shell so you make less of a mess and get more awesome into your mouth. - annjay, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6I am not a McDonald's lover...
- SpoonMSU, on 03/24/2009, -1/+7Royale w/ Cheese FTW
- DiggzDE, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5*McRuns
- BigE89, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5You can buy 2 Big Mac Snack Wraps and its still cheaper then one Big Mac...
- MarkBrent, on 03/24/2009, -2/+7Oh, I'm willing to try this! It's obviously not healthy, but I do want to taste their epic failure.
- bixby1, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5wait till you try this new, healthy, heart attack in a sack!
- westhmus, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5We have this in Wisconsin too...
- asnider, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Companies that operate in both Canada and the US apparently use Canada as a test market quite often. The population is large enough to give good statistical results, but small enough relative to the US that they won't take significant loses if the new product fails. Plus, our cultures are similar enough that if something succeeds (or fails) in Canada, the results in the US will likely be the same.
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4I had one today and id buy it again
- madeingermany, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4and just because what has been in a bun is now in a wrap doesn't make it any healthier... not even in appearance...
- SoulPSuperstar, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4only because of the size of the people in Houston.
- choopie911, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4Yeah, no-one has EVER put beef in a tortilla.....wait a minute.....
- asnider, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4Actually, the salads usually are healthy *if* you don't add dressing. Of course, a fast food salad without dressing is probably one of the most flavourless things in the world, so obviously very few people order them without.
- wakeupsticky, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4You could be the new Jared!
- Slython, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4I work at McDonald's and to be fair they're actually pretty damn tasty. We use the Quarter pounder meat instead of the hamburger meat to give you more bang for your buck.
Also to the people whom assume all the food is bad for you at McDonald's and it'll make you fat, it's not THAT accurate. I lost 45 pounds since starting at McDonald's a year ago, and did eat their food. I weighed 205 now I'm at 160. It's all about not being an idiot by eating a double bigmac, large fries and large coke (Which is 1500 calories, when the human body only needs around 2000!) - likwidfuzion, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3It's just overpriced Thousand Island.
- hoju7887, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3you, my friend, are my hero. I shall give that a try.
- inigomntoya, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Oh man. That would be so good. That way I wouldn't get stuffed from eating the bread part and I could eat more McRibs.
I'm not hungry in the least. But I am craving a McRib all of a sudden... - ZombieSociety, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3No. That's a blatantly overblown comparison and you know it. Obviously, heroin is a lot more satisfying than a Big Mac.
- merreborn, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3http://www.flickr.com/photos/dskillzhtown/31930296 ...
Ew. - BrokenAnimator, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I had one of these the other day in Canada here, they have commercials for them on TV too.
It was pretty darn good. Tasted just as good as a big mac. They go a little heavy on the special sauce, but it is my new favorite thing at Mcdonalds now.
Healthy, I think not, but it doesn't totally ruin a low carb diet when you want a treat :) - slvrbullet87, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Ok the fried egg on the big mac in Japan sounds awsome... i want one now
- uzair21, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I agree.
- aprocter, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I live in London, Ontario, which has been a McDonald's test market as long as I can remember. We have these here, but I have yet to try one.
- Hendo420, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Bring back the McLean duh!!!
- smacksaw, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3I think I paid $1.89 CAD, which is about $1.50 USD in today's exchange.
To give you an idea of equivalence, the $1 menu is $1.39 and a Big Mac EVM is about $5.49-$5.99 while it's about $3.99 or so in the US. - NiftyG, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Snack sized Big Mac is an oxymoron.
Should be : Snack Mac. -
