- Berkana, on 04/28/2008, -0/+23Japan is awesome: they will take aspects of foreign craftsmanship and technologies, and put the originators to shame with their obsession for perfection. A couple of years ago, Japan even came in first place at the world baking championships, beating even the French at baguette baking and artisan breads. (Not bad for a rice-eating country with a short history of bread baking!) There are even more top-rated elite French restaurants in Tokyo than there are in Paris. That, and every thing else they've put their hands to and perfected, make them impressive and a bit frightening at the same time.
They've recently decided to design and build their own modern fighter jets after the US Dept. of Defense blocked sales of the F-22 to Japan. Just imagine what they'll come up with. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+23I don't care where the whiskey comes from; I use it as a bullet train to drunk town.
- godzillaWax, on 04/28/2008, -1/+21Yeah, its not scotch if doesn't come from Scotland. Just like it's not whisky if it comes from Ireland (then itd be whiskey).
- doctormcnasty, on 04/28/2008, -0/+15For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.

- 180andback, on 04/28/2008, -0/+9I don't need to imagine. I've seen Independence Day.
- alibruce, on 04/28/2008, -0/+7Scotch is made in Scotland, but it doesn't need to be made from the river Spey. Speyside is just one of many regions for Scottish whisky.
- tbstudee, on 04/28/2008, -0/+6Champagne vs Sparkling Wine
Scotch vs Whisky
The name signifies where they are made, not the drink. So.. it's technically not Scotch - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+7It's not scotch. Scotch is a specific type of whiskey made IN Scotland with water from the river Spey. I'm sure these people made a fine whiskey, but it's not Scotch.
- BloodWenis, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Only Scotch Whisky is spelled without an 'e'. If it is made anywhere else in the world its spelled 'Whiskey.' Guide to Whisk(e)y here:

P.S. Oban or MacAllen is tops are tops in my book. - Berkana, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Fighter jets that Jeff Goldblum can hack with a virus coded on a PowerBook?
- bosssmiley, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Stop scaremongering! That's only Soyrent Yoichi.
- tomjm5000, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Oh Japan... you had me at "Ocarina of Time"
- spinchange, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4"Gureito Sukotto!" --- It's true:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=amnpKeRivMI - Quito, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Does this mean we are now going to have Japanese film stars doing cheesy ads for their whiskey in Europe?
- gentlemanjack, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4It's whale. Yoichi is made out of whale. Yoichi is whale!!!!
- Asianwaste, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3TENSION!!!! More tension!!
- wyrdness, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3You're showing your ignorance there. If it's Scotch then it's spelled Whisky, not Whiskey.
And as alibruce says, it doesn't have to be made with Speyside water either.
I've just finished a bottle of last years winner - 18 year old Talisker which is made on the Isle of Skye. They're not going to be getting any Spey water there! - wyrdness, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Scotch Whisky
Irish Whiskey, American Whiskey, Japanese Whiskey. - analogs, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Is this one of those british "color vs. colour" spelling issues? In America, it's typically spelled "whiskEy"
- vaxguru, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Somebody set us up the bomb?
- alpha_male76, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Damn. I would like a taste of this.
- akatsuki, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2I agree. Their hand craftsmanship is ridiculously high quality...
The fighter jet will probably run into constitutional problems though. I don't know why the US has been distancing from Japan, unless it is to appease the Chinese... - 180andback, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Enjoy.
- jackalsclaw, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1they will turn into humanoid robots
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1but, don't go to Gaspanic.....
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Then drink your Japanese whiskey with some calpis and order a mayonnaise and corn pizza from domino's.
- NeuroticLymbo, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1If its made in Japan or Canada it's Whisky.
Whiskey is spelt with an "E" if, and only if the country its made in has an "E" in its name... i.e. Ireland or America.
But then again, who really cares... it's all yummy! - clickx, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1All I can say is... SHAM WOW!
- theoristbj, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Black Nikka FTW!
- alpha_male76, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1It has to be casked for a minimum of 3 years on Scottish soil to be considered Scotch.
- jigulous, on 04/28/2008, -1/+2LMAO @ "the taint of inauthenticity"
- warriorscot, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Why would Scottish people call it Scotch? It is just whisky to us but we use the term to differentiate it from non Scottish whiskies as Scottish whisky is unique from the other kinds of whisky we don't not like the term we invented it and trademarked and secured its use by international law to only whiskies made in Scotland but we don't use it ourselves.
- BloodWenis, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I thought the term 'Scotch' was something we American's started calling it? I thought I read somewhere that they hate it being called just 'Scotch', but 'Scotch Whisky' or 'Whisky' was fine.
- ThinkBox, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Nani??
- beloitpiper, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1You do not remember correctly.
- novenator, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1yet another thing the Japanese have learned to craft well.
- alpha_male76, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1I am a big fan of the speysides myself.
If you havn't tried it, my favorite is Annoch .. From Knock-a-doo. - DeucesWild, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Damn thats the joke I was going to make.
- pedropt, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1To take revenge, Scots must try making the best Sake in the world. Revenge is served cold :)
- snohman, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1lol...that will be the day...
- zigunerweisen, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1More importantly, I wonder what advanced pr0n we will be getting from them 10 years from now.
- MacEnvy, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1MacAllen (especially the Speyside) is very good for the price, but there are much better (cleaner, more complex, whatever floats your boat) single malts out there if you're willing to pay more.
- alpha_male76, on 04/28/2008, -0/+118yo Talisker? wow.. nice an peaty.
I got a kick out of that movie Charlie Wilson's war. The CIA guy gives him a bottle of Talisker.. - SPLASTiK, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Single Malt /= Scotch.
Americans, Canadians, Irish, Scots, Japanese, Germans, Indians, Australians, Kiwis, Swedes, Swiss, even the French make a single malt, but only the Scots can legally call it Scotch. - zetsurin, on 04/28/2008, -2/+2I'd choose a 20 year Japanese over most other countries also, as they tend to be in much fitter shape.
- oracol, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0Thats what japanese do.Take something that is good and than improv it.Thats why they been voted world's best whisky by Whisky Magazine.
