- subxero37, on 06/01/2008, -13/+418I seriously thought the article title was talking about human women. Ouch.
- ravs, on 06/01/2008, -21/+391Does Jamie Oliver have to choke a bitch?
- idavidtang, on 06/01/2008, -31/+396WE'LL DO IT LIVE!
- dolby, on 06/01/2008, -13/+334Did you see the looks on the people's faces? Easier to eat food when you don't have it suffocating in front of you...
- Micgee, on 06/01/2008, -12/+302Maybe the internet has corrupted my mind beyond repair, but I honestly believed that I was going to see that chef choke a few women.
- DisposableRob, on 06/01/2008, -19/+277But will they blend?
Sorry, I hate myself now. - Laminarcissus, on 06/01/2008, -9/+255Gordon Ramsey killed a hooker on the Today Show.
- Stavrosian, on 06/01/2008, -10/+252I always love the looks on people's faces when they are shown stuff like this. Honestly, do they not understand that animals are killed in farming until somebody does it in front of them?
- jaymzdean, on 06/01/2008, -20/+249Two facts...
1. Animals kill and eat other animals.
2. You are an animal. - dleesgeetar, on 06/01/2008, -17/+179the sad thing is how this is a relatively humane practice compared to what the meat and dairy industries are doing in their superfarms:
http://www.chickenindustry.com/cfi/videogallery/ - Cloud7654, on 06/01/2008, -23/+171Anyone else disappointed they didn't get to see the snake eat the little chicks at the end?
- Kakaze, on 06/01/2008, -7/+140First I was disgusted to see that the males are just chucked away but once he said that the bodies are actually used I felt better. If they just dumped the poor things in the trash it would be reprehensible but as they are being used then I don't have much of a problem with it.
- Elliuotatar, on 06/01/2008, -4/+125If industry didn't do the dirty work for us, people would still eat meat. They'd just be butchering the chickens themselves. The sight upsets folks because they didn't grow up on a farm.
It does disturb me though to find out that at many places they toss the chicks into what is effectively a wood chipper to kill them. If someone ran a puppy mill and decided to use that method to kill all the males because females are more saleable, they'd be arrested for animal cruelty, no matter how "quick" they claimed the death was. - Mononuclear, on 06/01/2008, -11/+91so what is wrong with this? The snakes and other animals at the zoo have to eat. They eat other animals. The industry is killing 2 birds with one stone (no pun intended). They are disposing of the male chicks which are useless and feeding other animals. Which death do you think is more humane? suffocating in the little tank or getting squeezed by a snake?
The fact you need to realize is that these chicks are going to die no matter what. If there was no egg industry they would still need to feed the animals in the zoo. If there was no zoo these animals would still die in the wild. No matter what they are going to die.
I could see people being offended if the chicks were just killed and thrown in the trash but they are being used to feed other animals just as happens in nature. - tmartin417, on 06/01/2008, -6/+86People give a crap because they're cute, you don't see people freaking out about boiling lobsters or crab alive do you.....hmmm, wonder how these people would have reacted to boiling baby chickens alive?
- down4twenty, on 06/01/2008, -9/+85***** THING SUCKS........the oxygen out of the tank thereby suffocating the male chicks...
i tried..... - Backstab, on 06/01/2008, -20/+89All of you vegetarians so so mean towards our plant cousins.. You all make me sick!
- Gndoab, on 06/01/2008, -5/+69umm....of course it is.
what are you, barbaric or something? - rakovlam, on 06/01/2008, -20/+78I'm Chinese and the only way a Chinese knows his chicken is fresh to watch someone kill it in front of them (and yes, we love our animals fresh). This clip only shows that mainstream western society is becoming soft.
- HiKevinRose, on 06/01/2008, -2/+54It's not to advocate anything. He's "The Naked Chef", he's only educating people. He has no motive, it's not for publicity, he has another show anyway. He's all about educating people and exposing us to what happens to these chickens is just another part of that. If he were advocating that we all stop eating eggs he wouldn't have shown what the bodies are used for at all.
- jasdf, on 06/01/2008, -21/+70Why are people crying?
BTW - I have no feelings - BlackKnight6, on 06/01/2008, -5/+53I think people realize it, but they just don't see, nor would they want to. Face it, we have to eat. We could possibly just eat plants but I don't think that would go over well, the infrastructure to do that as well as our ability to only eat plants and health impacts. I think it is GOOD that people show emotion only in the sense that they all still dislike death but without it we die as well.
Go watch the "natural" way animals die like starvation, infant animals abandoned by their mother/father (or parents killed), hunted down and eaten alive and so on. These animals were put into a chamber and then gassed, probably one of the easiest and most painless way to go ESPECIALLY compared to the "natural" way. The next best thing we can do is just grow the meat like it has been discussed; through cloning and other methods so the complete animal doesn't exist, doesn't need nearly as much food (fed through other means) which means less killing of other animals and so on. But that is if we can get past religious/moral pressure on things like gene modding and cloning and "playing god" as well as people afraid of "I am Legend" doomsdays. - jcounterman, on 06/01/2008, -3/+49nope...they poison them, chew them to death, and sometimes play with them before devouring them. CO2 doesn't sound all that bad, does it?
- copypastry, on 06/01/2008, -0/+46Male? Dairy Cows?
OH GOD WHAT HAVE I BEEN DRINKING - inactive, on 06/01/2008, -3/+49You can take a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?
- mitothy24, on 06/01/2008, -0/+44This video doesn't really show the whole context, this is a small part of a whole series of programs aimed at showing the inhumane treatment of animals and the raw deals that farmers get as a result of supermarket buying power and their only concern being the bottom line.
I'm a long way from being a hippy and will saw off my left leg before I become vegetarian but the shows were actually very good at showing how the wool is pulled over consumers' eyes and how buying cheap meat and eggs can effectively mean you're funding animal cruelty. - kinseyincanada, on 06/01/2008, -5/+48ok im pretty sure im not the only one expecting him to be suffocating human chicks.
- houndeyex, on 06/01/2008, -1/+41This was a whole lot less erotic than I thought it was going to be.
- skywake, on 06/01/2008, -14/+53What the hell else are they supposed to do with them?
- mrinsanity, on 06/01/2008, -4/+43it took me WAY too long to realize that he wasn't going to choke women and that the "chicks" were chickens. "How is this gonna make the women cho..... oh. I fail."
- greenlight2001, on 06/01/2008, -7/+46What does that mean "suffocates a group of chicks"? To kill a chicken?
- bjstiktrix, on 06/01/2008, -5/+42Don't worry China, you'll get things like refrigeration and trust in others to not serve you old food someday. Someday....
- xXIrsotehkewlXx, on 06/01/2008, -1/+35Yeah I thought the video was going to be a lot cooler too.
- beloitpiper, on 06/01/2008, -0/+34Just education, I guess. People are far too ignorant about food, and maybe if they realize that food has to come from SOMEWHERE, they'll waste less of it. I'm neither a vegetarian nor a vegan, but I still think it is important to see how it is done.
- inactive, on 06/01/2008, -9/+42so it's basically like how PETA works?
- VelvetoneFusion, on 06/01/2008, -20/+52I still find it amazing that Jamie doesn't suffocate from the size of his own tongue.
- psylemon, on 06/01/2008, -2/+33the internets still loves you
- Prodigal19, on 06/01/2008, -0/+30as long as you eat them.
- richardhenry, on 06/01/2008, -5/+35On the plus side, he wasn't suffocating actual women, which was my first thought when I saw the title.
- shondell, on 06/01/2008, -6/+32can anyone post a video of it please? quickly, before by penis goes flaccid.
- ocellnuri, on 06/01/2008, -2/+27Wait, I'm confused. You mean there can be programming on TV that only shows facts, and doesn't present one side of an argument in order to promote a bias?? First I find out that British television is PAL instead of NTSC, and now this?
- Kakaze, on 06/01/2008, -1/+26They covered that in the video: maceration.
- PHiZ187, on 06/01/2008, -3/+27Hahah, do you think commercial farms really waste the resources to kill them humanely with CO2? More likely they just feed them into a woodchipper, and then use the resulting slurry to feed more chickens or for cattle feed. I know with cows it is a common practice to grind up the un-used bits and mix it back into the cow feed. Yum, cannibal cows. One might pause and consider that frequently the leftover parts contain brain and spinal cord material. This is of course a vector for BSE (Mad Cow), but hey, at least the Cattle industry was able to purchase what they wanted from the FDA. That is, minimal testing for Mad Cow, and PREVENTING individual meat processors from increasing their testing...
- Kannebas, on 06/01/2008, -2/+26But you know what didn't kill her? Smoking...
- ArkRaider1936, on 06/01/2008, -0/+24Back when I was a zoo keeper working with "herps" (reptiles and amphibians) we fed them mice and rats, but the rodents had to be dead so that they did not bite our exhibit animals, as a bite could become an infected wound, which in turn could lead to our exhibit animal's death. We received recently-born babies, juveniles, and full-grown adults to be fed off to different sized herps.
Because the mice and rats came to us live we were the ones who had to do the killing. It is depressing and hard to do at first -- especially having to kill the young mice -- but it is kind of scary how quickly you get over it. You just remember that, even in the wild, they are food for something else.
About the only ways to put the mice out of commission were by suffocating them in a bucket pumped full of CO2, nicknamed "Mousechwitz" by the zoo keepers, or by impact kill: quickly swinging them by the tail and hitting their skull on the edge of a counter or sink, thereby breaking their neck (my preferred method, as I considered that it would be quicker and less agonizing if I were in their situation).
And you know that action movie ***** about killing being an art form? Well, it kind of is -- it took skill to be able to do the impact kill so that there was no blood coming out of the mouse's ears, nose, or mouth. It was amusing to see how proud the zoo keepers got when they managed to do it.
If this makes me, or any other zoo keeper, sound like a sick *****/psycho I can assure you that we are not and that we love animals dearly. But we do realize that the rodents are food for other animals, animals eat other animals, and Mother Nature can be a cruel bitch. - brodieface, on 06/01/2008, -0/+22Chick dust, don't breathe this.
- akohut, on 06/01/2008, -7/+29And that's how chicken nuggets are made.
- malex, on 06/01/2008, -3/+23"stfu?" If you want to eat chicken, nobody's going to stop you... but if you're afraid to look at or talk about what producing that meat entails, then you're a moral coward.
- banmaster, on 06/01/2008, -0/+20Suffocated her with dollar bills jammed down her throat if I remember correctly.
- negativenancy, on 06/01/2008, -1/+21We are a lost cause, my friend.
