- BryanTravers, on 04/26/2008, -0/+11Damn it. Get home from work as a waiter at Olive Garden. Get on digg. Instantly recognize the Venitian Apricot Chicken before I even can look at anything else.
- defska42, on 04/26/2008, -1/+8Did you even read the article? Generally, yes, you are correct. But the point of this article was pointing out restaurants that don't fall into that generalization (well, for the most part).
I can vouch for the fact that Souplantation is great eats and is definitely fresh for a decent price. - karmaghost, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5Actually, the bathrooms in the Olive Garden are really nice. I'd take a dump in them if I weren't so afraid of public defecation.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -1/+6I "eat out" more than ever.
- antechinus, on 04/26/2008, -2/+6I wouldn't take a dump in any American food establishment. The poor quality of US food never ceases to amaze me.
- Hollowpoint, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Huge portions are my kind of minefield.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3DON'T TALK ***** ABOUT TOTAL!
- fefu, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I agree with you. I prefer to stay far away from chain restaurants. We're lucky enough to live in a city where there are great locally-owned places to go. And, I know how to cook. However, sometimes it's just hard to get out of eating at a chain restaurant. Where my husband's family lives, it's all chain all the time. I like having a list of some of the better choices.
- Ryan2845, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4mmm Sweet Tomatoes is awesome, i'm definitely guilty of plate overload though...
- shoopdawoop, on 04/26/2008, -2/+4my goat's lathered in shaving cream
- mal1964, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3That looked real good,But I cant do fruit or nuts on food. I like them both just not on food.
- BobOrleans, on 04/26/2008, -3/+5I wouldn't take a dump in the Olive Garden.
- k00k, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Here's the article basics:
* Uno's Chicago Grill
- Danger zone: Deep-dish pizzas can pile on the fat.
- We love: The Penne Bolognese -- just 16 grams of fat (well within the daily recommended max of 65 grams of fat for a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet).
* Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes
- Danger zone: Plate overload -- after all, it's all-you-can-eat.
- We love: The Tomato Spinach Whole Wheat pasta, a delicious combo of whole grains and veggies.
* Mimi's Cafe
- Danger zone: The "Comfort Classics" page of the menu, with throwbacks like rich (super-high-fat) Chicken Cordon Bleu.
- We love: Chicken & Fruit -- grilled chicken and a garden salad, plus wedges of fresh orange, honeydew, watermelon, and cantaloupe.
* P.F. Chang's China Bistro
- Danger zone: Traditional, fat-dense items such as Lo Mein Beef.
- We love: Carb-free vegetarian lettuce wraps -- wok-seared tofu, red onions, and water chestnuts with mint and lime, set in lettuce cups.
* Bob Evans Restaurants
- Danger zone: Breakfast, where bacon and sausage are kings.
- We love: Healthy options on the kid's menu, like slow-roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and glazed baby carrots, and fruit and yogurt dippers for dessert.
* Ruby Tuesday
- Danger zone: Comfort-food entrees like Gourmet Chicken Potpie, which piles more than half your daily calories on the plate.
- We love: That they've even healthied-up the burgers, offering veggie-and turkey-versions.
* Chevy's Fresh Mex
- Danger zone: Sodium counts. To get below 1,000 milligrams, you'll need to get those Chicken Fajitas with no tortillas, tomalito, rice, sour cream, or guacamole.
- We love: Fresh fish of the day, grilled and served on a skillet with homemade salsa.
* Olive Garden
- Danger zone: The non-olive-branch entrees. Olive Garden provides no nutritional information on anything else on the menu.
- We love: The low-fat Capellini Pomodoro (644 calories and 14 grams fat).
* Denny's
- Danger zone: Breakfast specials, especially the Meat Lover's Scramble, which is as bad for you as it sounds.
- We love: The online nutritional chart has Weight Watchers Food Exchange Values. - Mothrog, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Yeah, cause the primary fuel of the human body is the problem, not all the overweight porkers that get type 2 diabetes.
- rspeed, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1Oh, is your mom around again?
- gettarat, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't take a dump in the Olive Garden.
http://applebeesmenu.org/ - xstarsprinklesx, on 04/26/2008, -3/+4I thought we were over this stupid low-carbs thing by now. Jeeze.
Really though, you can get mostly the same stuff almost anywhere. You might have to ask, but you can get it. Menus aren't rulebooks, they're rough guides. If you want something fixed differently or something that's not even on the menu, just ask for it. (As a lifetime picky eater and 10-year vegetarian/5-year vegan, I think I'm pretty qualified to verify this.) - Mothrog, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1"But the point of this article was pointing out restaurants that don't fall into that generalization..."
One problem: they include Olive Garden, which automatically destroys any credibility they had. Olive Garden is truly stunning... There's nothing particularly complicated about Italian cooking, yet they manage to completely trash the cuisine and end up with something completely bland and revolting. Olive Garden is the epitome of trash chain restaurants. - secrity, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1I detest fruit on meat, the sweet ruins the flavor of the meat.
- mal1964, on 04/26/2008, -1/+1Do you really serve both asparagus and broccoli with that entree?
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -3/+2Buried as STUPID. Not everyone eats out 24/7. Plus, with all the gloom & doom reporting, I'm sure eating out will be less and less.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -3/+1I don't think that we get over the low-carb thing as longs as there is something called diabetes.
- metapop, on 04/26/2008, -7/+3is there really anything "top" about chain restaurant fare? the food is almost always frozen, never fresh... every one is pretty much the same and there is no originality in the dishes, and every aspect of the experience feels so packaged and processed... i'm not interested. i'd rather cook myself or support a local independent restaurant.
- laserviking, on 04/26/2008, -5/+0In the icy scandanvian tundra we eat moose cake. It is far superior to your American dishes which make your arses so plump and wobbly.
- Lagstorm, on 04/26/2008, -7/+1*****. Its all the same crap. Go to Chilis and get 2 for 1 margeritas and at least have some regret! VIVE LA PRESIDENTE! :D
