- kingcam, on 04/08/2009, -0/+33They should get Bill Murray to do some advertisement.
- dafragsta, on 04/09/2009, -0/+18400 bottles? That's supposed to be newsworthy?
- poidh, on 04/09/2009, -2/+9Quite right.
Here's hoping they get a taste for English real ale and cider so that we can start sending them some proper alcohol. I'm a real cider drinker, and if you can drink seven pints of Biddendens (8%) and find your way home from the country pub across the countryside in the dark, you're more of a man than me. I managed it after six, and had enough strength to give my girlfriend a seeing-to along the way. Twice. I hope you don't see this Asha, but I have had a couple tonight so you can't blame me.
:):) - merreborn, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5I can see why the English don't have much a whiskey industry. Scotch and Irish whiskey are made just a few hundred miles away.
- dannykeene, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5there are 126 million japanese
that equate to 1/10000 of a mililiter per jap
big deal - diskoh, on 04/09/2009, -0/+5Dude, that's almost 900 bottles per 2 months.
- dafragsta, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4Probably to do more with local taste. Aren't they known for gin?
- HanSolo69, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4It's only spelled "whisky" when preceded by "Scotch". It is "whiskey" in all other forms.
- frontaxle, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Washes down the taste of blowfish quite nicely, with a smooth aftertaste
- dannykeene, on 04/09/2009, -1/+4400 brottles on riskey on the rall, 400 brottle of riskey, trake run drown , prass it arournd, 399 brottles of riskey on the rall
- McNash, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Good movie.
- jfreeman, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Dugg for drunk stories told to the world while drunk.
- atgmac, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3That's over 9000 bottles every 1.875 years.
- TheTjalian, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I think this idea is so awesome, any sort of actual advertisement for this whiskey is now null and void, unless it stars Bill Murray.
- MrChunks, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Norfolk, otherwise known as the most boring county in the UK. And they make whisky there? Probably used by the locals to drown their sorrows of living in Norfolk.
- noseeme, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2No, the Japanese drink a *****-ton of Scotch.
- poidh, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I don't drink whisk[e]y I'm afraid. I do have the odd bottle of rum, since I seem to have inherited my mum's taste for that, but I haven't drunk whisky since I was 19.
I'm too lazy to do this, but I'd imagine that there would be a good market for importing English (British) real ale and cider into the US. Especially popular would be the ales flavoured with honey and fruits. There's a particulary good blackberry ale which I drank at a beer festival two years ago which I think would go down well at a gathering of US connoisseurs. I've got American friends in the UK and they swear by the ales and ciders I get them to try. Either that, or they're just being polite :) - noseeme, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2For some reason, Japan really likes whiskey. I hear it became really big during the Meiji Restoration, like baseball and western clothing. On my flight to/from Japan, I noticed about 95% of business men ordered whiskey around the start of the flight. Tons of people ordered it in restaurants, too. I saw this group of old guys in a Kyoto shabu-shabu restaurant who were all drinking whiskey, which seemed slightly out of place in that kind of restaurant. I guess the Japanese are the only people who may like whiskey more than the Scottish.
- T8erT0T, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2For relaxing times...
CUTO CUTO CUTO!!!!! - jarjarwang, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2I'm not going to think of a joke for a mere 400 bottles.
- eunrose, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Plenty of Englishmen like whisky, but I have to agree with merreborn - Scotch is so good, and Irish whisky decent as well, that it would be hard to compete. Still, surprised there's only one distillery in all of England. Would have thought that the northern part of the country would have a couple anyway.
- leamanc, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1palehorse864, they are referencing Lost in Translation, where Bill Murray plays an actor in Japan to do a Suntory whiskey commercial, just like the Connery vid you linked to.
Lots of actors and other celebs have taken this gig. Sofia Coppola, director of Lost in Translation, was inspired to put this in the film because her father, Francis Ford Coppola, did a Suntory commercial in the '70s directed by film legend Akira Kurosawa. - inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1The English do have some of the worlds finest ale, but I am skeptical about 18 month old whiskey. Could you compare it to something I might be able to find more easily in the states?
- jaygee, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1400 Bottles? I work in a pub that sells more than 100 bottle of Jameson a month. And for the amount of whiskey they drink in Japan i would hardly call 400 bottles a "Hit"
- MrChunks, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1You're skeptical? We're all skeptical. I felt the same way when I discovered they distil vodka in Scotland (Glen's Vodka).
- palehorse864, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Or someone with experience selling whiskey in Japan.

Oh, and a bonus vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU6X6ohNM3w - runningraleigh, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1While at a wealthy friend's house, we had some whiskey made in Japan. I was skeptical, but it was some of the best whiskey I've ever had. I can't remember the name, but it proved that they apparently know what they're doing with whiskey over there...
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1The import market has grown considerably in the past few years, as has the microbrew movement in the United States. I would definitely like to try more true English ales and ciders, but they seem to be as rare as they are delicious. Also, if you like blackberry ales, the Long Trail brewery out of Vermont makes a fantastic blackberry hefeweizen. I'm not sure if it is available in England, but if it is give it a shot.
- autobulb, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Not only is your attempt at pathetic racist humor lame, you can't even manage to get it right. Japanese people have trouble pronouncing "L" sounds which they substitute with their "R" sound which is a combination of "R" and "L".
- coolcole93, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1what can you do with a street? :S
just thought it was surreal that ive been somewhere thats also on digg - mjrmjr65, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0I've not had Eagle Rare. I'll put it on my list. I've had many excellent bourbons, including Wild Turkey Rare Breed(in a whole 'nother league than 101, which is damn fine itself), Woodford Reserve, Knob Creek, and Bookers. To my palate, there are some single malt Scotch whiskys that taste better than any of these bourbons:Highland Park 18 and Lagavulin 16 jump to mind. Peat/smoke is something that bourbon just doesn't do. Also, I find bourbon on balance to be a bit too sweet.
- evanfrey, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1...
- Swrv, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2
+1 for 10 year old Eagle Rare, a great burbon. - wannaBdug, on 04/08/2009, -1/+1Cheers
- mine4321, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0400 bottles? Ron White drinks that many in a month.
- coolcole93, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2holy *****, my grandma was considering working there a few months ago :O
She and her partner live in East Harling, on White hart St.
That's amazing that this place is now on the front page of Digg - I've been driven past it numerous times! - smileandwave, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0Im not to sure about this - part of me is saying put it back in the cask for another 18 months
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0I think you will enjoy Eagle Rare. One of the reasons I am so fond of it is because it is not so sweet as some other bourbons I have tried.
- TheTjalian, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1I think this is a trap.
- Frostek, on 04/09/2009, -1/+1Go on - give away other people's personal info on the net. I'm sure they won't mind!
- whiteguysamurai, on 04/09/2009, -3/+2Because scotch whiskey is too manly for japan.
- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -5/+2Sorry to the rest of the world, but Kentucky Bourbon has you all beat. If you don't believe me, then pick up a bottle of Eagle Rare 10yr old bourbon and have a sip.

What is Digg?
