- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+29Lol, chocolate lovers don't eat that crap anyway.
Tastes like plastic. - digghasnoethics, on 09/04/2008, -0/+23Seems to me that the big manufacturers have left a hole in the market. All it needs is a new entrant promising " Real Chocolate" and producing advertising calling the known brands "fake chocolate" and "cheap" and they can clean up.
- kent1146, on 09/04/2008, -1/+23Cadbury's US is much different than Cadbury's UK (and possibly all of Europe, though I've only tried Cadbury UK). Overseas Cadbury is much more smooth, with a lot more milk and cream fat flavors. Here in the US, it's not quite as smooth as its UK counterpart, and relies a lot more on sugar to provide flavor.
I gotta agree with jonesby... the UK Cadbury I had is way better than the US Cadbury. - Altotus, on 09/04/2008, -5/+23I don't think that "chocolate lovers" care. Chocolate lovers aren't apt to consider Hershey anything more than the poor-man's chocolate. Now that it's chocolate-flavored candy instead of low-end chocolate, I'm not sure that it'll make a difference. Now, if the higher low-end like Lindt starts to go out of the real chocolate business, then they'll start to worry. I doubt the mid-to-high end chocolatiers are apt to ever change. You'll see Valrhona close its doors before they ever put corn oil in their chocolate, for example.
- thephysicist, on 09/04/2008, -10/+24Hershey's is horrid full-stop (it seriously smells like vomit) no matter what cocoa bean they use!
Cadburys FTW - Stemnin, on 09/04/2008, -0/+14Hershey's makes Cadbury's chocolate in the US.
- smacksaw, on 09/04/2008, -1/+14When I read these articles, I always think the same thing - I thought I hated chocolate candy bars until I moved to Canada. Then I just realised that US chocolate was *****. Hey Hershey - maybe you'd sell more candy if you actually focused on quality ingredients and taste!
They had Hershey in Canada and it was sooooo good! I was dumbfounded why US Hershey could not be that good. I resisted buying it for years due to my hate of Hershey until my wife bought US Hershey and spit it out. It was then she pointed out it was totally different. I started to get it in Canada and fell in love, but they closed the plant down and now import the US garbage. Now it tastes the same because it is the same.
As far as Cadbury goes, UK/Europe Cadbury is terrible. It's all made with beet sugar. It has the most offencive aftertaste. Canadian Cadbury is far superior, but the best in the world is South Africa's Cadbury. It's all pure cane sugar and full cream. By far it has the best ingredients.
It's strange to think, but a UK company like Cadbury and a US company like Hershey do not actually have the best/highest quality products in their home markets! - sockpuppets, on 09/04/2008, -12/+25Nothing worse than trying to get your cart by a hysterical fat woman in the candy aisle, particularly if you've got one of those carts with the one antisocial wheel that feels the need to go in a different direction than the rest of them.
- smacksaw, on 09/04/2008, -0/+11That's why it's total and utter shyte.
- Mootabolife, on 09/04/2008, -1/+12I like the gregarious dancing wheels that spin round and round.
- jasonbalmforth, on 09/04/2008, -0/+10"It appeared that there had been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week.. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that after only twenty-four hours? Yes they swallowed it."
- CarlClassen, on 09/04/2008, -0/+9Watch out for "chocolatey" during Easter. I once bought one of those chocolatey easter bunnies by mistake. They tricked me by having the chocolate part of the word in one color and the y in another color to blend into the packaging! The bunny was inedible. And i have low standards for bunnies :) Tasted like lard.
- jonesyb, on 09/04/2008, -7/+16Chocolate in America is vile.
You need a Cadbury's over there. - StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+9Then you need Thornton's http://www.thorntons.co.uk/
Some of the tastiest chocolate you can get without going to the ultra specialised chocolatiers. Awesome toffee too (again, for being a big chain).
I also recommend their chocolate shot if you want to induce instant endorphin rush high. Not very good for you, but who can say no to a shot glass of hot, melted chocolate? - snurfle, on 09/04/2008, -2/+10So which products still contain cocoa butter rather than 5W30?
Or am I actually gonna have to drag my ass down to the store and look for myself? - jonr, on 09/04/2008, -2/+9Herseys product always taste like ass, anyway. How can people eat this *****?
- GrooTheWanderer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+7Even Cadburys seems to taste different from how I remember it years ago. Just about every chocolate product I've bought in the past 6 months here in Australia has been really vile-tasting, to the point where I've simply stopped buying it.
- Raian, on 09/04/2008, -0/+6I prefer chocolate that contains crushed monkey kidneys rather than cow rennet... The advantage is the chocolate bar also works as a vaccine to polio.
- QuantumBrain, on 09/04/2008, -1/+7That explains it !!!
I brought a bag of kisses last month , and it tasted like plastic.
I used to eat a large bag a week , not anymore.
- WillyWonka, on 09/04/2008, -0/+5As someone who is allergic to sunflower products, this SUCKS.
Sigh. First chips, now chocolate. - bblande, on 09/04/2008, -3/+7Dugg because I love chocolate and the link goes to the printer-friendly version.
- MrDo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4"Hershey, meanwhile, stands by its products. The company is committed to making the world's best chocolate."
HA! I was in the US once and I tried to buy some from Hershey because I have seen it in american TV and movies. But it was really awful and tasted of cheap chocolate. I don't know why anyone would buy that if they wanted a good chocolate taste. - raada, on 09/04/2008, -2/+6Hershey is the worst chocolate I have tasted in the 10 countries in the world I have been to. Is it even chocolate?
Hersheys kisses of death is the worst. - o0joshua0o, on 09/04/2008, -0/+4Just look for an organic chocolate bar that's 70% or more cocoa. They're not hard to find in a good grocery store. They're not outrageously expensive, either.
- CRCulver, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I agree. Once in a fairly undeveloped part of the world (Western Sahara), I bought a chocolate bar, only to almost spit it out and discover that the text read "chocoline bar". Evidentally chocoline is some kind of chocolate-like substance.
- kocurejd, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3This is an outrage!
- frepnog, on 09/04/2008, -2/+5stop eating so much candy.
- waydee, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Thorntons special toffee is like crack
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -2/+5I get satisfaction out of seeing that. It's like "Haha! She has a problem!"
- zzt711, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3I still like Twix though, everything else now is just horrid. I also like Watchamacalit, but so hard to find now.
One other thing... DAMN, I remember getting candy bars for 25 cents almost into the 90's, now it costs a dollar for a friggin Twix? I used to pick up 1 or 2 candy bars whenever I went to the Market but now I rarely do, being on a budget I can get something a lot more substantial for that dollar. - jtbell04, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Thank Big Brother for increasing the chocorat! Doubleplusgood!
- unknownsoldierX, on 09/04/2008, -1/+4Hershey's is so sugary, I get what I can only describe as a burning sensation in my mouth.
- tablatronix, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Yeah also the industry here in the states is lobbying to get the FDA chocolate definition changed so they can sell oil and cocoa "chocolate flavor" as "chocolate", ***** that.
- inactive, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3they do but it is also vile.
- absurdist, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Cadbury is the British Hersheys.
- smacksaw, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3http://www.naturespath.com/products/baking_mixes/c ...
I swear by these. I'm all about cream, eggs, etc. I love that stuff. But this is an excellent cookie and it's non-dairy and vegan. The results are what matters. Even though it seems a little fishy to have a cookie with no eggs or milk in the chocolate, the proof is in the puddi...cookie?
It's unbelievable how good it tastes. I make them with peanut oil and it has a slight peanut taste. I also add in a little extra salt and brown sugar when I make it.
I've made them with eggs, but they come out the best as per the box instructions, but with just a tad more salt and molasses flavour (from the brown sugar).
You can have good chocolate without milk. - cloudcity, on 09/04/2008, -0/+3Chocolaty, buttery flavored, lemony, creamy, etc. Things that used to be real flavorful foods, are now made out of soy oil, corn syrup, and artificial flavorings. Once you start looking at the crafty way that food is described, you don't even feel like you are eating things that at one time existed in a natural form. If Minute Maid lemonade has no lemon juice in it, then IT'S NOT LEMONADE.
I would MUCH rather eat less food, but have it be full fat, full flavor, "real" food. It's not rising food costs either, that is BS. It's companies wanted to squeeze every last dime out of a gullible public that is content to stuff their faces with whatever is cheap and available in mass quantities.
Margarine or Country Crock junk at restaurants REALLY annoys me. Give me a stick of butter, not some soy oil based muck. - aitoaster, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Nice, I was about to post that lol
- afrotech, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3Ikea's four swivel wheels that instinctively head for cars
- 2Deluxe, on 09/04/2008, -4/+6Filed under: Duh.
You get what you pay for. - Hotrox, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Hershey, meanwhile, stands by its products. The company "is committed to making the world's best chocolate," said spokesman Kirk Saville.
Really, Hershey? If you're committed to making the world's best chocolate then why are you using substandard ingredients? It seems to me if you were 'committed' to making the best chocolate then price wouldn't stop you from using the best ingredients. - inactive, on 09/04/2008, -1/+3Good thing I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Then again, it's DEFINITELY a ***** idea to eat ramen all the time. NOT a healthy thing.
- wowsah156, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Dugg because i love my chocolate and there is a need to sort out our food supply before there is a global food shortage.
- EndouOuto, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2You can buy Cadbury's at any British food store
in America. - azhura, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Two words: Dagoba Chocolate. Their candy bars are organic and have REAL chocolate, and I have usually find them on sale for two bucks (sometimes a dollar if I am lucky). Plus, the company supports "Full Circle Sustainability: Quality, Ecology, Equity, Community".
The best part is since they use real chocolate, my craving is sated after only half a bar. That never happens with the mainstream candy bars.
http://www.dagobachocolate.com/default.asp - Ellsworthskate, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2 I got a pretty big sweet tooth. Never been a big fan of Hershey's regular chocolate bars, I usually go with cadbury dark chocolate, but I do like reese's quite a bit. It did state however that they haven't changed any ingrediants on their more popular products so I haven't really noticed any differance.
- waydee, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Do they perhaps use that ingredient to stop it melting so easily? I've bought chocolate in india that had more in common with a lump of wax than chocolate that had been messed with so it doesn't melt so easily in transport/on the store shelves.
- VINLANDER, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2As long as Swiss chocolates contain real cocoa, there's nothing to worry...
- saisumimen, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2Vomit enzymes are quite distinguishable. If you've ever puked before, odds are, it was A LOT.
You'd remember something like that. - fantasticjon, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2At one point in American history Hershey's did make a good tasting good quality chocolate bar.
They are inedible now. I can't understand someone eating a hershey bar or hershey kisses.
Here is the deal. Most Americans are overly cost conscience. Its like a game consumers play to get the best price. Major manufacturers and major stores sacrifice quality to lower price. There are still many small manufacturers that provide high quality goods. -
