- johnboycanada, on 10/01/2009, -1/+137 eleven has been in HK for ages. There is no surprise here except they are adding some more snacks. This is hardly an impressive article.
- ChromaVita, on 10/01/2009, -0/+10Made popular 14 minutes ago, your comment was posted 11 minutes ago. Yea sounds about right.
- monkeyrun, on 10/01/2009, -0/+8it's 7 Cafe they are talking about.
There's one 7-11 on every street in Hong Kong already. - sndream, on 10/01/2009, -0/+8Don't worry, the 7 eleven here in North America will continue sell us crap.
- Karagoose, on 10/01/2009, -2/+9FTA: It's just before noon on a Tuesday, and despite the rain, a few dozen schoolgirls in white uniforms and navy cardigans...
Stopped right there to go rub one out - backwardscompat, on 10/01/2009, -3/+6Once they have a single Slurpee, their lives will be changed forever (in the best way imaginable)
- hkrob, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2The real point which is (trying) to get made is ... 7/11, or simply 'seven' as it's know here is moving into other food areas.
For ages, seven has been selling 'western style' snacks, such as hotdogs, sandwiches... They also sell microwaveable meals and instant noodles.. They even have 'stations' in the their stores where you can cook your food and eat it.
Now, what they are moving into is more traditional 'street food' and that's where many of the traditional 'cafes' (cha cha teng's) are starting to get worried... - cam81, on 10/02/2009, -0/+2"suit? suit? copy watch?" eventually I found you just have to ignore them :D
- shyner, on 10/02/2009, -0/+2It won't be as good as Sheetz.
- Treshnell, on 10/01/2009, -0/+2Do they still have Mt. Dew slurpees? We don't have 7-11s around here, but our KwikTrips used to carry those. Unfortunately, they don't anymore. No more cool, slushee Mt. Dew, all I can get now is the nasty Strawberry and Bluemoon.
- FurtThePirate, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1monkey's right there is literally either a 7-eleven or a circle K on every block.
- Turkman182, on 10/01/2009, -1/+2Mmmmmmmmmmmm that's good Squishee!
- twigboy, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1well that explains the domo kun promo they're running!
it seemed so random to me
http://www.slurpee.com - bphicke, on 10/01/2009, -1/+2Its not just Ginza, its all of Japan.
- smashblu, on 10/01/2009, -0/+1I don't know about Hong Kong but Taiwanese 7-11s don't have Slurpees. They have some other frozen-drink-type thing but it ain't a Slurpee.
- kentifer, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1I was SO confused when I went to a 7-11 in Japan and there were no slurpees.
- bainfu, on 10/02/2009, -1/+2It's not possible for the cultures to be somewhat similar?
- bainfu, on 10/01/2009, -3/+4Just got back from Japan and convenience stores / minimarts are huge over there, outside of Tokyo's Ginza district there seemed to be either a FamilyMart, AMPM, or a 7-11 on every block. With so much foot traffic, I can't imagine that it wouldn't do well after a while, unless it's next to a KFC which seems to be the biggest thing since sliced bread over there.
- whoreable, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1It depends if they can get along with the arabs working there.
- postitnote, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1In Hong Kong, the slurpees are carbonated (or something like that). Delicious.
- St0neman, on 10/02/2009, -0/+1amen!
- YokohamaGaijin, on 10/02/2009, -1/+2It already is (Indians and Pakistanis) and they're all trying to sell you tailored suits and fake watches.
- YokohamaGaijin, on 10/02/2009, -1/+2I think I'll start a T-shirt business for ex-pats/visitors similar to one I saw in Thailand:
No I don't want a suit
No I don't want a fake watch
Leave me the ***** alone
Honest to god, I saw this T-shirt for sale in Phuket. - bphicke, on 10/02/2009, -1/+1"Just got back from Japan and..."
I am fairly certain this was a segue into the original poster's personal experience at which point we were talking about Japan, not Hong Kong. - ShoggothDreams, on 10/02/2009, -1/+1And yet, here I am in the land of 7/11, and would give anything to have HK streetfood....
Mmmmm Jian Bing for brekkie.....
*drool* - harrisbradley, on 10/01/2009, -4/+4Keep those comments to yourself Polanski
- YokohamaGaijin, on 10/02/2009, -1/+1Geography fail: we're talking about Hong Kong... not Japan.
- NightC, on 10/02/2009, -3/+3Oh no! Now Hong Kong will be filled with Indians!
- harrisbradley, on 10/01/2009, -7/+1They have to! I mean... who DOESN'T1 rike 7-ereven.
