- soupr, on 06/25/2008, -1/+10The coastline of England has some of the most charming little villages I've ever seen.
- Brownbox, on 06/26/2008, -0/+8By definition, ANY restaurant by the sea in Britain is going to be 'cool'.
- waydee, on 06/26/2008, -1/+9Yeah because Steak and Kidney Pie, Kippers and Black Pudding are what every British person eats and represent the best of British cuisine. Get over yourself, you're speaking *****.
- Thrilltone, on 06/26/2008, -0/+6I don't eat out anymore, since I started watching Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares
- ricerfuel, on 06/26/2008, -1/+6Nothing wrong with our food mate!
- thisisntjon, on 06/26/2008, -0/+5What? No pictures?
- dan0964, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4Woo I'm from Cornwall, and can say i've been to all the ones in devon/cornwall and they are great.
- Modiga, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4You'd think the article would receive a larger chunk of page real estate.
- Brownbox, on 06/26/2008, -0/+4Ha ha ha that show is the greatest. All Mankind went and visited one of the restaurants in his show while they were on tour. It's beside the sea too. Love's Fish and Chips Restaurant : http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ebm1m_yhos
Gordon Ramsay is the king. - webman77, on 06/25/2008, -0/+4Good way to promote Designer!
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3I might suggest The Steam Packet, Isle of Whithorn, Dumfries and Galloway. While technically not a restaurant I guess but a pub and restaurant, it sits on the quayside at the harbour and serves some of the best food I have had in all of the UK. Highly original dishes (without being outrageous)
- SaucyJack, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3Unfair imo. I think that may have been true in the past, but not today. There is a great deal of interest in cooking in the UK judging by the TV programs, Michelin chefs and number of award winning restaurant here. For example, The Fat Duck in Berkshire got the highest number of Michelin stars a restaurant can achieve in 2005. There has also never been anything wrong with traditional (and fusion) British food done properly.
To the thread poster below. There is nothing wrong with Blood (Black) pudding either (delicacy in northern France, Spain, Iceland, Belgium, Germany and others btw). I had a black pudding with blood orange and red onion jelly starter the other day and it was delicious. - JohnsonGotOwned, on 06/26/2008, -1/+3This is cool and everything, but I was disappointed in the lack of pics.
- soupr, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2To the seaside?
- UltraDavid, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2I haven't seen a more deserving front-page story since the last xkcd comic came out! Thanks for posting, dudeface!
- burjzyntski, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1I may be speaking *****, but you must remember that I'm an american...so what do you expect?
- BelatedHero, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Guinness!!
- beauley, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1In order to sell food to millions of consumers, the food industry must make it appealing to as many as possible, from the young child to the elderly. In order to accomplish this, individual food suppliers use additives to make their foods taste better.

Are There Hidden Additives in Our Foods? - Raphas, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Digg me down if you want. It's the worst food I've ever had over there (the Dutch come pretty close).
- GoatMonkey2112, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1It seems more like rubbish than bollocks to me.
- TheCatsPants, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1It doesn't matter. The american palate is so used to too much salt and sugar in food that anything not overloaded with them tastes bland. Even my brother who emigrated to the US over 10 years ago complains the food tastes bland when he comes back to visit. When I visit him even the ordinary wholemeal bread tastes like cake. Very tasty, but it made me wonder if it was healthy. But then I also tried candy that turned out to be a 50/50 mix of chocolate and salt. It was definitely an aquired taste.
So you can't say british or american food is better than the other, it's just different.
PS: fish and chips FTW (don't forget the vinegar) - TheCatsPants, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1kidney pies? That's usually *steak* and kidney pies.
- TheCatsPants, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1that's because what you've heard is wrong.
- GoatMonkey2112, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Buried for being European only! You stupid Europeans are so narrow minded!!!!
- WordsnCollision, on 06/25/2008, -7/+7All the atmosphere in the world isn't going to make English food taste any better... a few pints of ale might help though.
- ucccft, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1Yea Florida Beaches.
- kellylz10, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0You know Obama is hanging out in one of these right now!
- CressCrowbits, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1ATTENTION AMERICANS!
British food is not Steak & Kidney Pie, Black Pudding and Kippers any more than American food is boiled pig intestines. Sure, there are some older generations that grew up eating stuff like that because that's what you get when your country is under siege form the Nazis and you're desperate (see also - bread & butter pudding).
I've lived here for the complete 29 years of my life and have never been so much as offered black pudding (although I did see it on sale somewhere once) nor have I ever eaten 'kidney pie' or kippers.
Please try to learn a little more current information about other nations, rather than relying on dated stereotypes. - JHarrison23, on 11/30/2008, -0/+0Wow, some of these places are really impressive.
http://www.Total-Cleanse.org - Raphas, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1Eat a meal in Britain ? No way thanks. I don't miss the jelly.
- flocktest, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1Doh
- flocktest, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1Oops
- Halsfield, on 06/26/2008, -1/+0burjzyntski , the idiot, is just making up for the stupid people that rag on americans here. Idiocy is worldwide, when will people learn?
- flocktest, on 06/26/2008, -3/+1Agreed.
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -7/+5Nobody goes to England for the food.
- vw2005, on 06/26/2008, -4/+2Why's everyone disappointed over lack of pics? ... I mean, really ... How enticing are kidney pies?
- borez, on 06/26/2008, -4/+2Bollocks list... sorry, but it's bollocks.
- Halsfield, on 06/26/2008, -4/+0sorry to say, but i didnt really find these that enticing, ooo graffiti on the walls, so hip! ><
Also, pictures wouldve given a better sense of the enticing look and feel of the restaurants. - burjzyntski, on 06/26/2008, -7/+1...says an Englishman.
kidney pie?
kippers?
blood pudding?
please. - vw2005, on 06/26/2008, -7/+1This article goes against all the stories I've heard about the bland, tasteless 'food' found in Britain....
- ucccft, on 06/26/2008, -8/+2Everyone in the UK needs to get out a bit more, I mean really get out.
