- GroundIsSound, on 03/28/2009, -0/+37unfortunately this data is based on sales volume, which doesnt tell who has the best craft brews in the country, only the biggest.
- bhone17, on 03/29/2009, -2/+23Stone Brewing Co FTW
- Eichenator, on 03/29/2009, -1/+21Dugg for Magic Hat!
- OrSoItGoes, on 03/28/2009, -2/+22Dugg for New Glarus and Capital Brew. Woot Wisconsin!
- Dimbleby, on 03/28/2009, -1/+17Apparently, noone brews beer in the South at ALL.
Dugg for Oregon. - Capta1nA, on 03/29/2009, -3/+17www.beeradvocate.com
- KrazyMon2, on 03/28/2009, -0/+13Nice list, I have had beers from most the places listed here but did find a few I haven't before. Now I have some beer hunting to do.
- vsujohn2, on 03/29/2009, -1/+13Beer
- homercles337, on 03/29/2009, -2/+13Top 50 in sales/production maybe, but definitely not quality.
- blarch, on 03/29/2009, -3/+14New Belgium in the hizzy.
- snowshoeless, on 03/29/2009, -0/+11but they take the craft seriously -- this is why the term microbrewery is going away and craft brewing is coming into vogue. These companies, while they grow in size, are still staying true to their roots and pushing the limits of beer.
- Swirly83, on 03/29/2009, -0/+10I think that you're only looking at the company's mainstream beers. They have put out some really fantastic things over the years. You should find Sam's Chocolate Bock. It is a work of art. Also, Sam Koch is a genius. He worked for years to make a strain of yeast that could withstand >25% ABV. The line of beers that were made using this yeast was called Utopia. You most likely won't be able to find it, seeing as how you have to be on a waiting list and only a few stores get any (12 12oz bottles at the most). Don't rag on them because of the Boston Lager or the Cherry Wheat. There really is a lot more to the brewery. Don't get me wrong, they are by no means my favorite, but I really think you might be overlooking some fantastic things that they do.
- agentsrecord, on 03/29/2009, -0/+10Bridgeport in Portland, OR and Deschutes in Bend, OR FTW. If you ever visit Oregon I HIGHLY recommend them.
Beer brings Diggers together. =) - cubuffs155, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9Dugg for Colorado
- jsmith212600, on 03/29/2009, -0/+9I'll have a Samuel Jackson.
- snowshoeless, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY is dang good. Dogfish Head is top on the east coast, New Glarus in the midwest, New Belgium in the mountains and well, it's hard to decide for the west coast.
- amnesiac096, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8New Glarus has some great beers, plus they are expanding with a new "Hilltop" brewery that should be open this summer.
There are also some great beers from central Wisconsin.... Central Waters (Amherst), O's Brewery (Plover).
Lakefront has some pretty good beers, I liked the IPA. - jsmith212600, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8Geography Fail
- sharkus414, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8New Belgium is big, but it doesn't export to many states. I am from Colorado and am at school in NYC, and am dying without my fat tire. I asked my local bar, and the bar tender says he has tried to get it, but they will not sell it past the Mississippi river, or something.
- tbhurst, on 03/29/2009, -0/+8Two of my favorite things brought together in one tidy package: Maps and Beers.
- scarlettletter, on 03/28/2009, -0/+7Its really cool to relate the beer we drink to the city its made in.
- skin, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7That's because Leinenkugels is not independent anymore. Miller is now involved so that they have a larger distribution area. It has worked. Most Ruby Tuesday restaurants only carry 6 beers on tap and everyone of them have Leine's Sunset Wheat. Or as I refer to it as, liquid Fruity Pebbles.
- clyentnine, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7Magic Hat, Stone, and Bell's. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
- FOR3MAN, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7Dugg for Bells.
- wing05, on 03/29/2009, -0/+7Nice to see we (Canada and US) are becoming bigger fans of craft brews.
Hopefully we can both stop being defined by the mass produced slop from Labbat, Molson, Coors, Bud et al. and become known for some really good micro brewery suds around the world. - bimtott, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6Isn't being ranked #1 in sales volume kind of the opposite idea of a craft brewery?
By this chart, #1 makes Sam Adams, which is not exactly a small operation. - dmbohn, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6they need lakefront on the list!
- Ventolin, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6St. Arnold's! Where my Houston people at?
- sockpuppets, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6I'd watch that on Discovery. The Beer Hunter.
- snowshoeless, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6i'm missing the fat tire on the east coast too. If they can get Dogfish Head on the west coast, why not some New Belgium on the east?
- DrLeePhD, on 03/29/2009, -1/+6also dugg for Oregon.
Ninkasi Brewing FTW. four blocks from my house. - fastguyrules, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5That would require a complete overhaul of the college drinking audience.
- jmritchie, on 11/10/2009, -2/+7Ohh waah wahh my favorite beer isn't on the list - wah wah. I'm a little vagina that complains when I don't like the truth and so i instead criticize representation of the truth.
- clyentnine, on 03/29/2009, -1/+6Arrogant Bastard, IPA and Smoked Porter are 3 reasons to move to SD
- MikeFallopian, on 03/29/2009, -2/+7Dogfish, Stone, Victory and Rogue FTW
- Hophead, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5That is a silly comment. Don't pretend to be uber beer nerd. 1000's of breweries better than Stone? Better than Victory? Better than Dogfish Head or Anderson Valley? Why don't you go ahead and name the first 1000 better than any of these and I'll concede your point.
- tj111, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5Dugg for Great Lakes Brewing Company. I have yet to have a better beer :)
- weebs, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5Apparently somebody missed that this is based on beer sales volume. Facts are idiotic, according to you.
- fandyllic, on 03/28/2009, -5/+9Apparently they don't have good beer in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Indiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maryland, the Virginias, the Carolinas, and Florida. I skipped Utah, because it is a theocracy and doesn't count.
Not too surprising. Especially Florida. - hilo4321, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4dogfish head is a ridiculously good company
- tlreeves, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Boulevard Wheat is the bomb!!!
- Garmonbozzia, on 03/29/2009, -2/+6Dugg for #4: Shiner!
- thebeerbandit, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Actually Anheuser Busch owns more than 35% of Red Hook, its not a just a distro deal.
- dylster13, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4St. Arnold's - Houston, TX!
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Well, at any rate, some of the best beer I've ever drank is on this list. Dugg.
- coastiefish, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4Yeah they all aren't national. Im hoping Magic Hat gets out to the West Coast sometime soon.
- snowshoeless, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4ah, that makes sense why Sam Adams is #1. Even though these are the biggest, it's good to see that they all really take beer seriously and invest in exciting, interesting beers.
- jspegele, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4It'll getcha drunk!
- pilzburybizkit, on 03/29/2009, -1/+5Sierra Nevada Pale Ale FTW
- DDION, on 03/29/2009, -1/+5I'll have a Sam Adams.
