- lucy22, on 06/16/2009, -1/+14I would like to know where my food is grown and if they use pesticides etc. After the Chinese lead and melamine, I want to check where my food is coming from.
- XZanatos, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Barcodes will work well enough until they get the price of RFID tags low enough to use on more products. Its simply a matter of, "how much computer scannable information can they attach to a product?" Method one: longer barcodes, method two: RIFD tags when the price comes down more.
- gl77, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3thats one of the things about Whole Foods Market where I work, with a lot of the foods in our store, you are able to trace a particular food item down to the exact farm where it was grown. i always thought that was pretty neat
- hiPpymIck, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2good article - lots of new links to explore
- XZanatos, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3No. That barcode is just for the produce category number. I know, I work in the produce dept at my store.
- 68024, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3The pear I was eating the other day had a barcode on its sticker. I was wondering if that pear could be tracked back all the way to the exact tree it was picked from.
- dmelo, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1What if there bad melons?
- 68024, on 06/17/2009, -1/+2Nope, that's not what I meant. It wasn't a store barcode or a number. It was one of those small oval stickers like the ones you typically find on bananas, but with a tiny barcode on it consisting of 2 rows of bars one on top of the other.
- themastersb, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1You mean an info file?
- bioviral, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Fridges with LCD screens that displays your food's information as it is picked up from within.
- themastersb, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Pretty sure you can scan a barcode on most things in Japan with a phone and get tons of info about it.
- zagatbuzz, on 06/17/2009, -0/+1Very good article. It is important to know where your food is coming from and what goes into it!
