- XPpro, on 07/07/2009, -11/+43Slim Jim's are awful, like eating peperoni dumped in lard. And if you do the math, they're like $10 a pound. Buy yourself a steak dinner instead.
- MeLikeyTacos, on 07/06/2009, -12/+38I never understood the appeal of Slim Jim. I tried it multiple times, and it was some of the most foul-tasting beef jerky I've ever eaten. Their commercials were pretty funny though.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -3/+28Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
- rambomcfly, on 07/08/2009, -5/+28America just got a little bit healthier.
- dafragsta, on 07/08/2009, -1/+17Surely we can find pig lips, *****, and mechanically separated chicken parts SOMEWHERE.
I hate to say it, but Slim Jims are one of those things that I know is basically just a stick of congealed animal parts laced with TONS of sodium, but goddammit... they ARE tasty every once in a while. - mysticalone, on 07/08/2009, -1/+16that what she said
- CaptainNoPants, on 07/08/2009, -1/+14Slim Jims are not jerky. They are spicy beef sticks. Also, delicious once every 5 years.
- minnecrapolis, on 07/08/2009, -0/+12Well, it's not "jerky". It's a meat stick. Jerky is marinated meat strips that are dried at low temp.
If you're looking for jerky flavor then you need to buy jerk, not Slim Jims.
Slim Jims are delicious. Try the "hot" ones. Not really hot in my opinion but a nice flavor to them. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -3/+15$10/ pound is pretty average for proccessed meat.
- purseonality, on 07/08/2009, -0/+11Oh dear gawd NO! Not my spicy meatsicles! Anything but that!
- dpknc84, on 07/08/2009, -0/+10Sadly yes and I really wish this article went into more detail. People were not just injured at the ConAgra plant. Three people lost their lives due to the explosion and resulting roof collapses. This happened just down the road from me.
For more info and pics on the disaster:

See? It doesnt even sound right! - Grova, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10Snap into a....wait what!?!?
- nonymous666, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7Not just any chicken, though. Mechanically separated chicken. Prime stuff; the best for making meat mush.
- atbnet, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7I buy real beef jerky and it is usually $14/pound. For each pound of meat you only get about 1/4 lbs jerky after it is processed.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7Yes, according to the article, their only US factory 'assploded'.
- kromix, on 07/08/2009, -3/+9Since when is demand for these things so high?
I'd go for Oh Boy! OBerto , Jack Links , Pemmican, even Mr. Z before I do some nasty beef jerky.
Well if your a Slim Jim lover, or want to horde the sticks and sell em on eBay for instant profit I have the perfect plan for you:
1. Open New Tab
2.Visit http://www.amazon.com/Slim-Jim-Sticks-Original-0-2 ...
3. Buy 100x100-Pack=10,000 of Slim Jim Original Sticks for 18.65x100 = 1865.00
4. Sit on them (not literally)
5. PROFIT
NO ??????? , its a fool-proof plan my friends. - offthewagon, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6As a once in a while sort of thing, its perfectly fine. I had a lab live 16 years and she'd much on them a couple times a week. If you said slim jim around her she'd go crazy.
- pe5t1lence, on 07/08/2009, -0/+6What if we put the steak dinner on a stick!
- MacEnvy, on 07/08/2009, -2/+8@XP
I'm not sure you understand what "processed meat" is. Certainly not rotisserie chicken. - zigardne, on 07/08/2009, -1/+7you only get a 3 on my trollometer
- cran, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5But they're so tasty!
- Hellahulla, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5I thought a slim jim was the tool that used to be able to open cars when you lock yourself out of them.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3True but they're not as tasty as the similarly named processed meat products.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3Do you know what Google is?
- ubuwalker31, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3@dpknc84 Thanks for your thoughtful response. I still browse Digg, but usually the comments make me sad because they don't really have anything of value to say, which is why I've moved onto reddit.com. Digg really needs more comments like yours, rather than the responses that p106peppy and CaptainNoPants provided.
- shakabrah, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3i think you mean, "OH YEAH!"
/macho man - khail250, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3man, all your comments keep getting buried, why do you still write here, no one cares!
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3...spicy beef sticks. With spicy mechanically separated chicken too :D
- damnshoes, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3oooooooYYEEAAHH!!!!

- FXNGLAS, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2I will be extremely happy, since my dad has been buying me a box of 100 slim jims for christmas for the last 5-6 years, and I never eat them.
- geesamba, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2or else it gets the hose again.
- MattM0914, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2I remember being a kid and being disappointed when Slim Jims didn't make the snapping sound like they did in the commercials. Damn you Macho Man Randy Savage!
- overtoke, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3that is a bad habit. they are bad for people, but they are worse for dogs.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -3/+5Didn't one of their factories explode?
- alpinekarst, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Most local meat shops will process your fall harvest of Deer, Antelope and Elk into a pile of meatsticks if you're so inclined.
- DigitalisAkujin, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3RTFA, the slim jim factory exploded oO
- Eastcoastsurfer, on 07/08/2009, -3/+5I found it to be more enjoyable to try and peel the "skin" off it instead of eating it.
- CaptainNoPants, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3They're all gonna laugh at you!
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gumb: It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told.
- darksydxx, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2They are great after a night of drinking. I can eat like 5 of those in one sitting
- PowderedToasty, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I'd like to see a chicken get mechanically separated... any links?
- PowderedToasty, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Nerver mind, not nearly as awesome as I thought it was. Pretty f-ing gross actually http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanically_separate ...
- mastacoupe, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Thanks, I guess.
- Lennox24, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Identically named, in fact.
- tiptep, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1You live just down the road from where Slim Jims are made? You, sir, are my new God.
- overtoke, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1The good news is that the price for their raw materials (lips and *****) has plummeted.
- kefkaantakrist, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1a steak on a steek?
- okcomputer1982, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1absolutely!
