- Namaha, on 06/14/2009, -2/+179Dugg for being in the food and drink section
- vroom101, on 06/14/2009, -5/+107Full description from photographer Harold Ables: "On a recent trip to Egypt, I spent the first three nights at the Mena House Oberoi Hotel across the street from the Great Pyramid of Giza. Early one morning, I walked the hotel grounds with my camera in hand and was lucky enough to spot this Least Weasel raiding the snack shop adjacent to the hotel swimming pool. It was apparently delivering food to its offspring. Each trip required about 15 minutes. I positioned myself some 15 feet away from a previously traveled path and managed to get this image."

- minnymoo, on 06/14/2009, -5/+35Haha, that's cute.
- tillerman00, on 06/14/2009, -3/+18". . . and one of our own made headlines today while en route to bring a tasty morsel to her offspring. Honeripus J. Gadlings, a weasel local to Giza, was photographed by a human in mid-leap with what looks like a delicious crust of some sort lodged in her mouth . . ."
- from today's Egyptian Weasel Times - vsujohn2, on 06/14/2009, -2/+15***** off
- staydead, on 06/14/2009, -0/+12The physics of jumping a few inches? Or the physics of carrying a piece of bread?
- s4g4n, on 06/14/2009, -1/+11Sean Connery!
- darlingt, on 06/15/2009, -0/+10That's, like, the definition of memetics.
- mikemil828, on 06/14/2009, -0/+8Maybe, however he probably was just shooting in continuous mode, decent dSLRs can shoot at 4 frames per second, at that rate you usually are able to get something good.
- GoatMonkey2112, on 06/14/2009, -2/+10That doesn't look like Paulie Shore.
- ayeroxor, on 06/14/2009, -0/+7Yesh indeed, Mahkush.

- Tomoir, on 06/14/2009, -0/+6...
- cliffhanger407, on 06/14/2009, -1/+7It's not a predictive focus algorithm. You know how fast sports cameras have to focus? Granted the depth of field is much larger there and the range less precise, but to photograph something with this accuracy just requires a fast DSLR (like say a Canon 1D Mk III) and probably a 200mm f/1.8 lens if I had to guess. It would be very possible for a skilled photographer to track an animal like this if he knew what he was doing.
@Squeeself, no. you're wrong. I doubt there was any shopping to fix the "focus problems". They probably never existed, and you can't fix bad focus. The photo is very sharpened, but it doesn't have focus "fixed" - staydead, on 06/14/2009, -0/+6It says right in the description that it's a Least Weasel.
- RadiatedAnt, on 06/15/2009, -0/+5Polymorphic memetic alloy!!!

http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/your-shot/wallpa ... - emkaysmith, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4"Very small teeth"? "Poor weasel"? You've never gotten up close and personal with a weasel or a stoat, have you? Those little suckers could take your finger off for a late-morning snack. I have nothing against them, but I stay out of their way, too.
- jmdwinter, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3I know this hurts.
- franklymister, on 06/15/2009, -0/+3...:

- lschofield, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Hahahah... Brilliant catch!
- Chairboy, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Whoa, hardcore downdiggs. Did I accidentally link to naked pictures of myself again?
- Vindexus, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Then real comments what?
- fxu1989, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Yeah that weasel looks delicious.
- superkendall, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2It's easy given the conditions. As stated, he knew the weasel was coming back, he pre-focused on the edge of the path and hit the shutter just as it flew (that part was lucky). After some practice it's very easy to hit a target crossing a moving spot, as long as you have zero shutter delay (which is true of a DSLR and some P&S cameras on manual).
As an on the fly shot it would have been pretty amazing, and it's still a great shot as is - but knowing where something is going to be, even roughly, is a huge advantage. - bmullins, on 06/14/2009, -0/+2If that were true, this weasel would already be dead....
and that's just including my fapping. - Hero0fTime, on 06/14/2009, -4/+6When is someone going to photoshop a slice of bacon in his mouth?
- Yondelldude, on 06/15/2009, -0/+2Post more goats!
- acyork, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1Or, it could have been a video camera and then he just took a still from the video.
- lyonzy90, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1Same focus problems though.
- BullBearMS, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1Figuring out how to set my DSLR into continuous mode with full time autofocus sure did make taking good shots of the little ones in my family a whole lot easier.
- Nighthawke, on 06/15/2009, -1/+2That's some serious noming her family is going to do tonight.
- ayeroxor, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1I believe he's discussing the cohesion of molecules in this most transitory of existences.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1what did it say?
- geobay, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1BRB...killin a weasel
- Squeeself, on 06/14/2009, -3/+4It's been heavily shopped to fix the focus problems. Other than that, just manually focusing to a set distance then letting the camera take multiple shots over the time period will grab one that's fairly in focus.
- cliffhanger407, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1I doubt it. The DOF is too shallow for the tiny image sensor on modern video cameras. It also wasn't taken with a P&S for the same reason. It was definitely taken with an SLR.
- anotherjack, on 06/16/2009, -0/+1It was an inoffensive post, imo. Is it for linking to a Picasa album?
- DubiousDrewski, on 06/14/2009, -3/+4Technically speaking, how could someone have captured this image? I don't know of any cameras that have predictive focus algorithms that are quick enough for this. And pre-focusing and waiting for the little guy to run into the plane of focus is quite a gamble.
I wonder how this was taken! - zagatbuzz, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1Well at least we know someone - or something - will be enjoying the food very much! What a great shot!
- immatellyouwhat, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1From the thumbnail it looked like a tiny man wearing a puffy collar on a grassy knoll.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1what did it say?
