- jcgreenx, on 02/18/2009, -1/+18The best is Due's but they're inconsistent. Lou Malnati's is always outstanding.
- alapoet, on 02/18/2009, -0/+15I love how much you Chicagoans know about pizza. I am truly in awe of your pizzalogical knowledge.
[genuflects in the direction of the Windy City] - Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+14So delicious. Who can choose the best?
- serif69, on 02/18/2009, -9/+22Chicago pizza isn't pizza. It's a casserole.
- fandyllic, on 02/18/2009, -0/+12I wish the Pizzeria Uno chain around the country (is it now defunct?) actually made chicago-style, deep dish pizza instead of the dry whatever it is they make.
- sfrench, on 02/18/2009, -2/+12A mystery, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in a pizza crust....
"Well, it's not a Taco Town taco until we roll it up in a blueberry pancake, dip it in batter and deep-fry it until it's golden brown. Then we serve it in all commemorative tote bag filled with spicy vegetarian chili. It's 15 great tastes all rolled into one.
The new pizza crepe taco pancake chili bag. Only at Taco Town."
TACO TOWN!

- jimmies, on 02/18/2009, -0/+10Lou Malnati's would be my one food choice on death row.
- mofo269, on 02/18/2009, -0/+10Ha! "pizza thick as a sewer lid and almost as heavy"
- chicagomargaret, on 02/18/2009, -0/+10I vote for Lou Malnati's, especially the Lincolnwood restaurant.
- mofo269, on 02/18/2009, -1/+9Lou Malnati's. Best sauce, hands down.
- MsCarlaPauline, on 02/18/2009, -0/+8My favorite is Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder. I've never had better. And now I want some of that pizza by the pound.
- jcgreenx, on 02/18/2009, -0/+7It's not even worthy of this discussion.
- acmaurer, on 02/18/2009, -2/+9Sorry Uno's, but I'm not really a fan! I prefer Lou Malnati's or Edwardo's. Delicious!
- Logal, on 02/18/2009, -1/+8Chicago's got nothin on Michael Scott's favorite pizza joint while he's in the NYC. Good ol' Sbarro's!
- VacantThoughts, on 02/18/2009, -0/+7Some friends and I once road tripped 3 hours for Chicago pizza, needless to say it was worth it.
- rdaughtridge, on 02/18/2009, -1/+7You should write a book about the history of Chicago deep dish. All those relationships are fascinating! Plus, great old vintage pix and new photos.
- mnemy, on 02/18/2009, -0/+6...wrapped in bacon?
- ObeseSnake, on 02/18/2009, -0/+6Isn't that the point of the article? Someone did write a book and found out that the history wasn't very clear.
- Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+6What about his half-uncle, Rudy Malnati Jr.'s pizza, at Pizano's. That's good.
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -1/+6I still like Gino's better.
- Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+5Your disdainful (but tasty) non-Chicago pizza is but a wafer.
- jarjarwang, on 02/18/2009, -2/+7I don't know a SINGLE person here in Chicago city who buys deep dish pizzas.
- jayfish, on 02/18/2009, -0/+5Gino's East, when it was still downtown, was amazing pizza. Easily the best I've ever tasted.
- bairmik, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Louisa's in Crestwood, south of Chicago. Best ever. Louisa took the Lou Malnatti's style to the next level
- ajbl, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4I dugg you up because I once saw a manager punch a waiter for having some people rob him there. Ahh, Hyde Park.
- zuiquan, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Oh yeah, totally. Because no Italians live anywhere but in Philly or New York or Jersey. Jesus Christ do you think Italians only live in a couple big cities? So if an Italian guy opens up a pizzeria in a city of say 5,000 people he's going to have ***** pizza because there's not 100,000 Italians living there? You have got to be ***** kidding me. There's phenomenal pizza all over this country. Some of it made by Italians, some of it not. And for the record I've had both ***** pizza and amazing pizza in Philly and Jersey. I've also had amazing pizza in Honolulu, San Francisco, Monterey, Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, all over Michigan, Alabama, North Dakota, Texas, Vermont, and West Virginia.
- jcgreenx, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Haven't tried it before. Is it like Malnati's?
- sdigroup, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Lou Malnati's FTW! it has a better flavor and the quality is much higher
- Langford, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4I don't know what is the most correct flavor for pizza to have, but rarely have I eaten a pizza I didn't like, although I will admit to occasionally picking off offending toppings. I kinda like the fact that it tastes different at pretty much every restaurant that makes it.
- PizzaEagle, on 02/18/2009, -1/+5Who cares its still delicious
- Hetman, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4Edwardos is my favorite pizza in Chicaog. As thin pizza goes I also enjoy Pizano's they have an awesome buttery crust thing going on.
- ZombieSociety, on 02/18/2009, -0/+4I like Pat's better.
- Emera, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Arrgh, you got me. Dugg for title.
- Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3They're all slightly different.
- Elbryan233, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Bacino's of Lincoln Park. Best pizza in the city. Worth the trip every time.
- Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3It's not the same.
- Anim8tor, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3What do you think of the Uno Chicago Grills? The out-of-town chain? Do you like that as much? (I don't. Can't stand it.)
- marktastic, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Pizza? Now that's what I call a taco!
- jcgreenx, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Yes, but some are more different than others.
- rogosan, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Anyone know of a deep dish pizza place in Los Angeles? I really miss it...
- petebot, on 02/18/2009, -1/+4I'm a Chicagoan, but I've always preferred thin crust to deep dish. I rarely eat deep dish pizza.
- SupComTabz, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Duhh.. deepdish!
- inactive, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3That's Geno's. And I don't go to Pat's or Geno's for steaks. Both highly overrated.
- misterjangles, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3I'm one of the many paradoxical Chicagoans who prefers New York style pizza. Deep dish pizzas just has too much dough or something! Piece Pizzaria in Wicker Park as pretty decent New York style pizza. Luigi's in Lincoln Parks is also really good. I admit you do have to go to NY for the real deal, though.
- po43292, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Uno is still a chain restaurant. They're good, but in Chicago there's probably a better pizza place to visit that's more indie.
- saikyan, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Not my favorite, but I do feel Gino's East is underrated.
- mlvassallo, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3Mangia Pizza in Austin, Tx is the best "outside of the city" Chicago style Pizza I've ever had.
- Taiyoryu, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3I visit a friend in Chicago now and then, and he swears by Pequod's and Art of Pizza. I have to agree. They both make some mighty fine pizza.
- pjpete, on 02/18/2009, -0/+3No, Uno's is definitely still in business.
