Pretty obvious those 5 things are not too good for you - DjArcadian, on 07/03/2008, -5/+23Eating out is simply not healthy *period*
If you're concerned about your weight/health learn how to cook healthy meals. The only places I know of where you can actually get a healthy meal is sushi (but no California Rolls) or Subway (and only a Turkey with no cheese, mayo, oil and on a wheat roll). - bxblox, on 07/04/2008, -0/+15In fact, Quiznos's Mushroom Bisque has 11 grams of fat per cup. That's 17% of your RDA.
How many meals do they expect someone to eat? If you go to a restaurant and choose something that has 17% of your RDA for one meal then what is the problem? If you ate five meals in one day and had that soup for every meal, you would still need 15% more grams of fat to reach your RDA.
edit: I'm not saying that there aren't other ingredients you might be getting too much of, but one thing being 17% of the RDA doesnt seem to be a problem. - fearlessfx, on 07/04/2008, -0/+15I wouldn't recommend eating seamen at all. They are all stringy and muscly, go for a baby instead, nice and tender.
- mrclark112, on 07/04/2008, -0/+9This article is garbage - If you keep a relatively consistent eating pattern - i.e. lean meats(protein, some fat) good fats (fish oil, olive oil, walnuts, almonds, avacados) main carbohydrates from cooked veggies - some fruit.... stay away from starchy grains that provide no nutritional value... fats are not the enemy - it's the simple sugars, processed nitrate/nitrite rich foods, high fructose corn syrup, lack of essential fats that are the worst for us. - - eating out once in a while is a blessing in disguise - keeps your sanity too when enjoying a break out at a restaurant time to time, desert cordon bleu whatever... - you can make better choices at most restaurants and fast food places if your in a pinch....
eating some "fast-food" / or some of the choices in this article once in a while isn't going to kill you if the rest of your meals throughout the week are ok! That and some form of cardiovascular or resistance training a few times a week, whatever it is... just a heads up - it's not easy to make changes at first - for the most part everyone, even those with serious and unfortunate conditions can make small ones and build from there. - upick, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9Muffins...
No what should I eat for breakfast when that's the most convenient food for me... Looks like plain bread from now on... Or maybe I'll stick to cereal... - whysteriastar, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9Once you take away the Bloomin Onion, the Bisque, the muffin, the huge steak and the soda, what's even left worth eating?
I'd hate to be the guy in that picture though. - shutaro, on 07/03/2008, -2/+10Screw that... You'll have to pry my muffin from my cold, dead hands.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/03/2008, -7/+146. Seamen in the bathroom. Even if it's your own.
- InTruthJustice, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6Stop perpetuating this terrible, terrible restaurant bathroom lie!
The average male ejaculate contains no more than 10 calories, and is loaded with protein and vitamin C. So enjoy. Have two or three instead of dessert. Have one for breakfast while on the go.

http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1585.html - DjArcadian, on 07/03/2008, -2/+8You're better off eating a bowl of fruit and one or two hard boiled eggs. The fruit gives you energy and the protein from the eggs suppresses appetite. If you want cereal eat a high fiber cereal with some fruit and non-fat milk.
- HouseofEl, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6Eating out at somewhere like Outback is fine. You just have to make sure that it's a on a very infrequent time scale. One every six months is not the end of the world. The reason it's become such a problem is the fact that people and even families have made it an every weekend deal. That's just a ridiculous amount of calories to take in every week, even if it's just one day. It's not the food that is making us fatter. It's the diet. You can have whatever you want as long as it's sensible and not a daily or weekly event. Just because it's served by the pound, doesn't mean you need to eat all of it there.
- dweeb79, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7These articles really take all the joy out of life.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6Awesome Blossom is in no way shape or form "hidden." A fried onion that you dip in seasoned mayo would be really hard to interpret as a healthy food.
I submit that any food that starts with "Awesome" probably doesn't help your cholesterol situation very much. - mrclark112, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5the above goes for vegetarians too! - substituting meats for similar foods that provide good sources of protein, many of which can be found in the veggies and good fats... sorry for the extra reply - wasn't singling out on anyone's personal choices...
- ghostoftomjoad, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6So that's why the bloomin onion is so good
- Renegade.eit, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4They forgot to mention dessert. It's one of those things that's very hard to avoid, but considering an order of the molten chocolate cake from Chili's contains 1270 calories, maybe some people will have second thoughts.
- Gizza, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4Most soups dishes are probably more than 1 cup to begin with. And usually soup is a starter, so you're still getting the main meal after it.
- Ryan2845, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4The Mayo is the key like you said. After a quick google:
http://www.peertrainer.com/DFcaloriecounterB.aspx? ...

with Mayo: 266 calories, 8.5g fat per roll
no Mayo: 78 calories, 1g fat per roll - Typhoon2009, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4Or you could, you know, exercise a bit. Or maybe if you're planning on going to a restaurant, cut back a little at your other meals. I eat out very often, I'm in good health.
- Areiadebondi, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Wait till u stop growing....
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3This sounds like an overblown propaganda film from the 40s. You're an idiot.
- DjArcadian, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Chinese restaurant? Are you kidding me?
- yunus, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Just avoid the muffins that are the size of a softball. One serving is more the size of a tennis ball.
- paraforce, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Everything in moderation.
You won't be able to eat crap food and still maintain a "high quality" life style when you get older, even with exercise. - cbreaker, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Don't worry about it. You need some extra calories in the morning to help get you going. That's why traditional breakfast food is usually so fatty (eggs, bacon, ham, home fries, etc.)
While obviously some muffins are really bad for you, and smothered with sugar on top; others aren't as bad. I love the corn muffins from Dunk'n'Donuts. Yea, they have a lot of sugar, too, but no more than any other breakfast and they fill me up in the morning. - Ellipsys, on 07/04/2008, -2/+5I'm a little unsure of why California rolls are so bad for you. Rice? okay...That's in all sushi. Its a relatively small amount. Nori? That's healthy. Cucumber? Healthy too. Avocado? Relatively small amounts of it, combined with the fact its a "good fat" would have it sounding healthy to me. Now, I guess it comes down to what's in the "crab meat". Kani stick (imitation crab) is as far as I know, usually Alaskan Pollack, which, while not being one of the greatest fishes for you, is still a lean protein. Provided the imitation crab doesn't have a ton of oils, binders, and chemicals, I'd expect it to be pretty healthy for you. Of course, if you happen to go to a sushi restaurant run by actual Japanese, you may get a chance to taste a california roll with real crab, if you don't mind the expense. (The place I used to work, they came to about $12, compared to the $4 of the imitation kani stick). Of course, if your local place makes california rolls with any kind of mayonnaise based product, then all this goes out the window.

- Pahtcub, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Who eats muffins at restaurants?
- shawnanigans, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Vector cereal, I'm friggen addicted to it. It's delicious!
- pinkcherry, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2 Yep, I cannot wait for those additional few months added to my life wasting away in the rest home.
- Metasquares, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I always thought dessert was the easiest part of the meal to avoid, because the portions tend to be large enough where you can't fit it anyway...
- Areiadebondi, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1The problem is that ice cream always fits in the gaps. Always....
- DrJG, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Exercising for several hours a day and eating all the available stuff seems attractive while you can do it and haven't thought about it; muscles turn into fat when for any reason you are unable to exercise quite so much (accidents do happen and it might not be your fault); if you have fat input now it will show up when you are then unable to do anything about it. It is a matter or how few or how many fat cells you do have, and starving them into leanness by exercising is a continous, not a permanent solution. A better diet and a long walk every day, climbing often, treks occasionally, and other natural ways of exercise can be a better solution than depending on weight lifting at gym for taking care of bad food - that should be limited and used to reduce fat, not to eat fat every day. And making good food or discovering it can be a lot of fun too. (Hint: poor asians, particularly in India, do eat tasty food with low calories. And they do more than survive - they have enough nutrition to get energy, enough to work hard - which they have to, just to survive - and stay lean.)
- beauley, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1In order to sell food to millions of consumers, the food industry must make it appealing to as many as possible, from the young child to the elderly. In order to accomplish this, individual food suppliers use additives to make their foods taste better.

Are There Hidden Additives in Our Foods? - shutaro, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Vector? Is it made of numbers? I didn't know you could eat vectors...
- Samohtneas, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I am pretty sure these were all fairly obvious, especially soda. I tell all my friends they should stop drinking it, or at least so much of it, because I see them down can after can after can. I'm 18, we're still growing and their quick teeny metabolisms and sluggy lifestyle aren't going to hold up for more then a few more years. I tell them it's going to come and bite them in the ass (literally!). So I stick to one Diet Coke a day if I truly must have it, although aspartame is still a bit scary to me. Water and green tea, it's all you truly need!
Have the tests on aspartame as a carcinogen proven to be true? Or is it just saccharin I need to watch out for? - getrealjoeruss, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I work at Chili's. They took the Awesome Blossom off the menu. It took too much effort to prepare and it was infamous for it's high calorie content. If you want to eat one, you've got to go to Outback because their Bloomin' Onion is the exact same thing.

- yacks, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1does having sex count as a form of cardiovascular exercise? and does rejecting sex count as Resistance training?
- bxblox, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2[sorry if it doubleposts. the comment system is acting up.]
Its a sandwich store, not a 3 course meal restaurant. And even if you have the soup and a sandwich, lets stay this one:
Baja Chicken with Bacon:
Chicken, bacon, cheddar, red onion, mild Chipotle Mayo, sweet and smoky Baja Sauce, fresh cilantro
it will still only total 20 grams of fat which leaves room for 45 more grams to reach the RDA. They provide a portion that is an actual cup. You have the option of having more as a bowl but that would be more than the standard serving. If you eat more than one cup then you have to adjust the rest of your meals for the day, but having a cup of of that soup won't really do much damage so I wouldnt label it unhealthy based on its fat content. The list also says it would be loaded with cholesterol but there are only 10 mg in a cup (out of the 300mg RDA.) And weighing in at 130 calories per cup I wouldnt put it on a list of calorie bombs, especially since the RDA is 2000 calories. -
