360 VODKA: World’s First Eco-Friendly Premium Spirit?
inhabitat.com — What would you do if someone told you that you could help the environment by purchasing a bottle of vodka? That ’s exactly the message America’s oldest distillery, McCormick Distilling, is trying to spread with the launch of their brand new product 360 Vodka, as it enters the highly competitive market of ultra luxury vodkas.

- NoCt1, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Why would they appeal to nerds. Me being one i tend to go for Bong Vodka, and the Goose. Besides Mccormick sucks.
- NoCt1, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Because they said its the First. You dont see us complaining about the worlds best or top ten lists do you.. Wait, You do.

- sv650touring, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3"the company states that it uses 250% less fossil fuel energy during production process"
That should be a first, considering it's impossible.- hasansexy, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2So they actually produce fossil fuel during production?
- CrushThemTorg, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Energy crisis solved. Time to drink!
- naner, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2I don't want to be that guy, but had you actually read the article...
"Now we’re familiar with other ‘eco-friendly’ vodkas like Purus or VeeV, which have been around longer, and not only utilize eco-friendly packaging, but are also completely organic when it comes to the ingredients and distilling process as well. Unlike Purus and VeeV, 360 Vodka is made from regular non-organic American grain - and of course Purus and Veev ave been around longer. Because of this we’re not really buying into the ‘World’s First Eco Vodka’ claim, but we’re intrigued by 360 Vodka nonetheless. If you are going to imbibe - imbibe sustainably!"

- Bukowsky, on 03/20/2008, -1/+5sounds intriguing... I wonder how much this would cost at a bar?
- NoCt1, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2cheap. Its mccormick
- mraustin1337, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Luxury and McCormick should not be used in the same sentence unless it is used to express their unlike qualities.
- jggube, on 03/20/2008, -1/+11Great... another great reason to drink myself to stupidity (no, really, thanks....).
- ihavebeenseen, on 03/20/2008, -3/+18McCormick that is all i need to know... i'll pass
- eoncire, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Ill pass too. Here's why......
This is rubbish. Where do i start!? First and probably most important, the print advertising this company is doing for 360 vodka is obnoxious. Who cares if the puny sticker on the bottle is made from 100% PCW. They whore themselves out to every beverage / food magazine (in the last year) i have read. No just a small "paper saving" add, but the full center, 2 page special card stock paper add that eats more paper. Second, EPA regulations on water? NONE. More bullsh*t. Go ahead and google it. "Charcoal filter" in the spirits industry typically means activated carbon. How do you get charcoal? BURN SH*T! Activated also means chemically treated to enhance absorbing properties.
I work in marketing / product dev. for a distillery and i understand having that nice product. But just dont be two faced about your operation.

- LOLSteelBullet, on 03/20/2008, -2/+8I was thrilled until I saw McCormick's name on it. *continues drinking his smirnoff*
- NoCt1, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2true. Absolut and Grey Goose is where its at.
- T8erT0T, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2Absolut is downright trashy. Grey Goose on the other hand, that I can respect.
I'm all about this vodka called Krakus though.
- T8erT0T, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2Absolut is downright trashy. Grey Goose on the other hand, that I can respect.
- bobcrotch, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Uh, yeah. Smirtnoff and Absolut are so much better than McCormick.
- zantos420, on 03/20/2008, -1/+3smirnoff is a bitch drink. sorry, digg me down but someone had to tell you.
and @NoCt1, Grey Goose is definitely where it's at :)- strictnein, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2How is Smirnoff a "bitch drink"? That doesn't make any sense. He's not referring to Smirnoff Ice.
Overpriced "lux" vodkas are the bitch drinks. Grey Goose is one of them. And once you start mixing stuff with the Vodka, paying for anything above Smirnoff is a waste of money. But if it makes you feel better about yourself. I mean, I know it's cool to say "Dirty Martini, Grey Goose, Straight up", but all that's doing is taking another $3 out of your pocket.
Blind taste test where Grey Goose was picked as the worst:

Another taste test. Smirnoff wins for value brands.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/26/dining/26wine.ht ...- LOLSteelBullet, on 04/06/2008, -0/+1Plus Grey Goose is too smooth. I like the burn smirnoff gives.

See what I did there? - bigsteve, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2$27 a bottle. Shame it's McCormicks. McCormicks tastes like Windex. I'm a Goose man myself, or Absolut if said Goose isn't around.
- bobcrotch, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2750ml generally runs 35-40 dollars depending on your state.

- patrickrho, on 03/20/2008, -10/+1I probably could buy much better vodca for cheaper than this 'eco' vodca..
saving the environment is good but i think theres a better way to do that than making a 'eco' vodca bottle.- SoupLaLa, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1you are right!!
- cl2yp71c, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Nothing as righteous as getting wasted!(on eco-friendly Vodka)

- Madpony, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6As an alcoholic, it's great to see that I can now do my part to save the planet.
- MrCrumbles, on 03/20/2008, -0/+10Now you can get wasted without the waste.
- egthareal, on 03/20/2008, -0/+4zing
- freezerburn666, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2seems good, i guess. here in ontario, canada i had the pleasure of speaking to a young woman giving samples of wine in the liqour store, she explained that for EVERY bottle of that wine they sell, they would be planting a tree. now thats pretty damn eco-friendly!
- jetboyterp, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Made by McCormick...the king of well liquor. Never mind "eco-friendly", they need to work on "hangover-friendly" first...
- jordanau, on 03/20/2008, -1/+3I am not good with the maths. How do you have 250% less of something?
- BruisedGhost, on 03/20/2008, -4/+1I sense a lawsuit coming from Microsoft in the near future
- repmekevets, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2i'm pretty sure they don't own the number 360, but that's a guess..
- Mothrog, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6Marketing at its finest. Put cheap swill in a bottle, label it eco-friendly, and watch the eco-tards buy it buy the case. And I'm sorry, but anyone that buys ultra-premium vodka is a ***** moron. Vodka is designed to be pure ethanol cut with a little water. It's like paying a premium for distilled water.
- eoncire, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3I couldnt of said it better.....except for this..
First and probably most important, the print advertising this company is doing for 360 vodka is obnoxious. Who cares if the puny sticker on the bottle is made from 100% PCW. They whore themselves out to every beverage / food magazine (in the last year) i have read. Not just a small "paper saving" print add, but the full center, 2 page special cardstock fold out add that eats more paper. Second, EPA regulations on water? NONE. More bullsh*t. Go ahead and google it. I work at a brewery / distiller and do all of our formula / label approvals we submit to the feds. No where in our approval for our distillery license is there anything about the water quality. "Charcoal filter" in the spirits industry typically means activated carbon. How do you get charcoal? BURN SH*T! Activated also means chemically treated to enhance absorbing properties. Chemically treated burnt ***** doesnt sound very ecofriendly. Most smaller and or cheaper distilled spritis companies simply buy ethanol in bulk at 192-198 proof for their products from a few major distilleries around the states. All they do with that to make "vodka" is cut it down to proof with water (NOT distilled water, spring water. Distilled water makes the finished product slightly cloudy).
I work in marketing / product dev. for a distillery and i understand having that nice product. But just dont be two faced about your operation.
I wish Penn and Teller would do a ***** episode on vodka. I would love to see the idiots that buy expensive vodka as a status symbol finally realize that the price tag doesnt mean dick.
//rave.
- eoncire, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3I couldnt of said it better.....except for this..
- ilves7, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2This would be better for the environment if it wasn't ultra-luxury level. Cheap vodka would replace a larger % of the marketplace and therefore promote more conservation.
- nynexla, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Still a hangover
- bincoder, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Do they fuel the delivery trucks with it or do they still use diesel?
- SmellyGeekBoy, on 03/20/2008, -0/+5"luxury" .... "vodka" ???
- mc_hambone, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Personally, I enjoy Absolut to cool-down after a round in the hot tub: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5p0QtJMKt1s
- elTito, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Dude. I feel like I need a shower after watching that.
- mrbrianxyz, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6If you really want to be eco-friendly, just consume less, buy less things.
Don't fall for the marketing of companies that just want to cash in on the latest trend! - Sincere303, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1This is great stuff. I've drinking it for a few months now. I just wish it was a little cheaper and they sold it in 1.75ML bottles.
- pingster, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6Yes it's eco-friendly. But will it blend?
- elTito, on 03/20/2008, -0/+6Still a net drain on the environment. Anyone who's ever made ethanol knows what an enormously energy intensive, wasteful process it is.
Creative marketing to take advantage of the less informed/intelligent among us.- inphu510n, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Thank you for the one intelligent comment on this.
- HOTM, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3My vodka red ringed : (
- diotro, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2A mail order form to send the metal opening device thingy back? Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but do they wash them? Not saying I've done crazy things to vodka bottles, but crazy things have happened around them.
- Wonderama, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2Sad, stupid and pathetic.
- Icantransform, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1When you are done drinking eco- friendly vodka be sure to put all you pee back into the nearest bush, tree, or alley because that is the sustainable way and truly eco-friendly, Reduce Reuse Recycle, and if you drink enough Regurgitate
- skribble, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2Rather drink Rain Vodka which is made by a well respected distillery in Kentucky from Organic Midwest Corn, and is one of the best Vodkas I've tasted (though I'm more of a Bourbon guy), Maybe not recycled glass (or maybe it is who knows), but I do know that it comes from less then 200 miles away so I'm sure it's better for the environment then all the marketing crap going on with this (Food Miles and all that jazz).
- Wonderama, on 03/20/2008, -1/+1Not so fast with the locally grown meme. Economics can sometimes be a pretty good identifier as to what's more ecologically friendly. Buying Chilean grapes flown halfway across the globe may be better for the environment than those (more local) California ones.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/09/business/yourmon ...- skribble, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1You are correct... however Indiana (where I live) and much of the midwest is actually an ideal place (environmentally) to produce corn, and the entire trip from fields to distillery to my local liquor store, is >400 miles. So in this case I stand by my claim.
- Mothrog, on 03/20/2008, -0/+1Oh christ. You've really shown you've gotten a double dose of marketing stupidity. Vodka is ethanol and water, nothing more. It doesn't matter what it came from, corn, potatoes, or just plain old cane sugar. Ethanol is ethanol, and run through a continuous still, that's pretty much all you're getting. And organic? For *****'s sake, don't even get me started on what a complete load of marketing BS that is.
- skribble, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Well Actually, not quite. Vodka is *not* pure ethanol... thought it's generally distilled up to 80-90% or so, that other 10-20% gives the Vodka subtle character and flavor. Try some different Vodka's side-by-side and it's likely you will notice the difference (though it is subtle) Even the very best Vodka's... which ideally is flavorless, actually has some characters that differentiate it from another. Of course as I stated I'm more of a Bourbon guy, and there are huge differences from one and another there.
- fenris6644, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3Sounds like an expensive drink designed especially for rich liberals so they can feel better about themselves. Suckers. I'll stick with Hanger One, thanks.
- iPood, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2It'll get ya DRUNK!
- purzzzell, on 03/20/2008, -1/+2My household prefer's Tito's Handmade- only one distilled 6 times :)
But my first thought was "is this really new to the market? I swear I've seen it already" : here's a link about it from last May.- SoupLaLa, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3There is no link
- purzzzell, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1thanks, too bad I didn't catch this til now: http://www.luxist.com/2007/05/03/360-vodka-drink-t ...
- SoupLaLa, on 03/20/2008, -0/+3There is no link
- SSUK, on 03/20/2008, -2/+5Why do they call it 360? Because when you see it you turn 360 degrees and moonwalk away.
- Codee, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1That would be called 180*. Then you'd do the moonwalk thingy.
- george97, on 03/20/2008, -1/+0global warming is stupid stop posting ***** about it
- danbaird2000, on 03/20/2008, -1/+1Don't fall for it. The whole "5 times filtered" is a perpetual marketing scheme that vodka somehow can't get out of. "Filtered through coconut braids, bay seal tears and unicorn feathers. The more times you have to filter just means you started with dirtier ingredients.
- russ3, on 03/20/2008, -0/+2..... using charcoaled coconut to filter the vodka is better for the environment? Didnt we have to ship the coconut shells to them and burn them? that cant be good...
