WTF??? - bixby1, on 04/10/2009, -1/+44If maple syrup goes away, I'm moving to Canada where it flows like wine.
- agentsrecord, on 04/10/2009, -1/+41"Canadian reserves were exhausted (did you know there were maple syrup reserves? There are!)"
Heavily guarded by giant beavers, I presume. - AmyVernon, on 04/10/2009, -1/+36I can't drink the crap-ass "pretend" maple syrup anymore. We don't use it often, but when we do, it's gotta be the real stuff.
- ileftfark, on 04/11/2009, -2/+35That's called a yeast infection.
- hotbert73, on 04/10/2009, -1/+27Prices did not go up here... I got my batch a few weeks ago and it is MMMMMM
- Acqua206, on 04/11/2009, -3/+24You know we're pretty well off when maple syrup is on the list of concerns. I got about half a gallon of maple syrup up in Canada. It was good, yes. Way better than my high fructose imitation syrup with maple flavor. Am I concerned with the price? Nope. I have no problem stepping it down to Jemima...seriously, maple syrup isn't even on the radar for me. There are so many other things to be worried about right now.
- gader, on 04/11/2009, -2/+18Who the ***** budgets for sweeteners?
- ichunxo, on 04/11/2009, -3/+17Seriously. Fatties.
- lucy22, on 04/10/2009, -0/+13Come on up. We welcome you, oh maple syrup buddy.
- Lucas123, on 04/10/2009, -0/+13I used to make maple syrup when I worked on a farm as a kid and I can't emphasize enough to my own children that the corn-syrup pretender maple syrup they tend to gravitate to because of advertising and what they get in school is nothing like the real thing. I can't stand Aunt Jemima and the other fake maple syrups.
That said, the cost of maple syrup is also staggering - something I still can't fully grasp. Tapping trees for their sap is a renewable source of food that is very cheap and boiling down the sap isn't that labor intensive. - dfweyer, on 04/10/2009, -1/+13More of a honey person...
- avaugha4, on 04/11/2009, -1/+12RTFA... I bet you have never had real maple syrup in your life...
Aunt Jemima and Log Cabin are NOT maple syrup.
Just bought a 32oz bottle of Grade A medium amber today. hopefully it will last a while... - cyrusuncc, on 04/10/2009, -1/+11Ever notice how the Vermont maple syrup logo looks like a guy taking a leak in a bucket?
http://vtsugarandspice.com/images/products/detail/ ... - inactive, on 04/11/2009, -2/+11Diabetes much?
- xonkonog, on 04/11/2009, -0/+9Im surprised how many people don't even realize their consuming artificially flavored corn syrup.
- Amlethus, on 04/11/2009, -8/+16Lucky for me, my girlfriend is Canadian. I can just jam my tap into her whenever I want fresh, dripping maple syrup.
- edstate, on 04/10/2009, -3/+11Lol, I'm eating some steel cut oats and maple syrup as I type!
- bman1984, on 04/11/2009, -1/+9I regretted expanding to see the replies to this comment.
- ileftfark, on 04/11/2009, -0/+8Now that's what I call a sticky situation...
- Amlethus, on 04/11/2009, -3/+10No, that would be if the tap poured out cottage cheese.
- poginston, on 04/11/2009, -0/+7I haven't noticed any of this, but then again, I'm from Vermont. (802 REPRESENT) The stuff practically flows like water up here. Death to table syrup!!!
- jiveturkeyblues, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6aunt jemima isn't maple syrup, its corn syrup with artificial maple flavoring
czech the labels, dawg - tgc1, on 04/11/2009, -2/+8Keep up that sort of talk reefsurfer226 -- We will cut off the Maple Syrup supply entirely. And then you will be powerless Muahahahahaha!
/Maple Syrup Hoarding Canadian.
// Will share with those who play nice. - henismightier, on 04/11/2009, -1/+7No kidding. That's ridiculous.
- inactive, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6You never saw maple syrup at Denny's. Only breakfast syrup with brown coloring and high fructose corn syrup.
- tgc1, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6Moose and Polar Bears, but close enough.
- rpgguy1o1, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6You wouldn't last long as a highway trooper
- inactive, on 04/11/2009, -0/+6Right, girlfriend in Canada. We all totally believe you.
- Spoomeister, on 04/11/2009, -1/+7Who categorizes their monthly budget, let alone grocery shopping, that way? A sweeteners category? Really?
"Food that is meat"
"Food that is not meat"
"Beer"
"Other liquids I can drink"
"Cleaning stuff"
Done. - bubbameister33, on 04/11/2009, -1/+7Wilfred Brimley?
- NoTiG, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5I would like to add something to the list... aren't payphones kind of disappearing? I mean everyone has a cell phone these days and I don't see as many
- avaugha4, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5I love maple syrup, wouldn't have anything else in its place. Right now I'm focusing on the little things, and the biggest of the little is food. Eating in more means I put a lot more care into what I am doing in the kitchen.
- tibbon, on 04/11/2009, -0/+5Err, at least in states bordering Vermont there is no lack of real Vermont Maple Syrup.
- RatatRatR, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Exactly right. It's been repeated over and over in these comments, but there really is a huge difference.
- MattVarney, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Sap doesn't flow from the trees year round. It's harvested in the spring time because of the freezing nights and warm days which causes the sap to flow. The past 2 years were poor harvests so the stockpiles are running low
- ronjon13, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4i have maple syrup with my steak, LONG LIVE CANADA!
- avaugha4, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4Maple syrup doesn't exist if it doesn't get below freezing during the night when they are tapping the trees.
- LargeStack, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4I have 3 kids under 12 and we use a bag of brown sugar 3 $ a month and a jar of honey 5& every 2 months and sirup 6 $ lasts 2-3 months.
50$
What are they a family of Elves brought up by Will Ferrel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qb0x1epSjJg - bman1984, on 04/11/2009, -0/+4I have a pretty hard time drinking the real maple syrup too.
- Mockylock, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3It's an acquired taste.
- Taiyoryu, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3Aye likes 'em both
- CRCulver, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3From the experience of myself and acquaintances, even the most well-dressed and respectable-looking person has a hard time getting anyone to temporarily lend their phone, as they seem pretty sure that you are some thief about to run off with it.
- Y0tsuya, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3This ain't the penthouse forum.
- inactive, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3he's talking about pure maple syrup going away.
FTA: "Cracker Barrel went to 55% maple syrup and 45% cane syrup in its "100% Pure Natural Syrup" at its Old Country Store restaurants
Though with economy the way it is, maple syrup should be the least of anyone's concerns. - TruthKid, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3I can't taste the difference between synthetic and mineral 10w30
- fantasyflamz, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3That's why I like the real stuff. It's much better and not as sickeningly sweet.
- SwordOfShannara, on 04/11/2009, -2/+5and where the women flock like the salmon of Capistrano..
- maximilen, on 04/11/2009, -0/+3I don't know if it's just me or what, but the "Grade-B" stuff tastes a lot better than the "Grade-A" -- It has more flavor and is darker. It's also more expensive.
- Raian, on 04/11/2009, -1/+4I don't think I could honestly use $6 a month worth of "sweeteners" even if I tried.
