- Indyanna, on 04/08/2008, -1/+95That's it? Calories and fructose corn syrup? pfft. I was expecting real news. Stuff like "Burger King's 'French Toast Sticks' are made out of the uneaten pieces of hamburger buns that people leave on their trays."
- iSamurai, on 04/08/2008, -1/+66Rather repetitive, the article focuses on restaurants not revealing nutrition facts
- jcaino, on 04/08/2008, -0/+48A 1 pound burger might be unhealthy? WHO KNEW?
- karapuz, on 04/08/2008, -3/+47how did this crap make it to the front page?
- frogman54, on 04/08/2008, -0/+34I know when I go to Hooter's I'm very concerned about the fat content in the wings. I ask the waitress if she has any nutritional information, she leans forward, and then I always seem to forget what I asked.
- thashiz, on 04/08/2008, -0/+29I love how each seemingly-identical factoid required its own page. 16 pages for an article basically calling each chain out for not being forth-coming with nutritional info? What a waste.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+22"That its Omelette Feast has 1,335 calories and.."
I have a feeling that people that order something called a Omelette Feast dont give a ***** about calories. - brownspank, on 04/08/2008, -1/+22(Don't give them any ideas, now.)
- andrewsavage, on 04/08/2008, -0/+21I was expecting a lot more out of this article.
- mooseofshadows, on 04/08/2008, -0/+17Charlton Heston?
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+14I work for Panera and there is no "synthetic food colorings" in our pastry.
The dough is a simple pastry dough and the fillings are fresh fruit or cherry pie filling (this was the only 'non fresh item' we put on or pastry and it doesn't have anything a normal high quality pie filling would have)
Not all of Panera's food is healthy and we don't hide it. Ask someone for nutritional info and they'll give you a book. But we do offer lots of healthy choices.
I love how my grand parents are in their 90's and eat butter, fat, and loads of red meat DAILY and they never thought 'wow this stuffs killing me'. I think what kills you faster is worrying about what you eat.
Eat what you want but get off your ass and walk somewhere. - yunus, on 04/08/2008, -0/+12Your grandparents are healthy because they walked to school 5 miles, up hill both ways, in the snow.
Your kids will take a bus 5 miles flat ground both ways, in the snow they just don't go to school they get the day off. - HarryBauzonia, on 04/08/2008, -0/+11Food has calories!
Sugary foods have lots of sugar!!
Fatty foods are loaded with fat!!!
We're all gonna die (someday)!!!!
The thing about Burger King cooking french toast sticks in the same grease as the fish is an outright lie though. The fish gets its own vat because everything cooked in it will taste like fish. - Alphateam, on 04/08/2008, -0/+8Holy *****!!
Eating out at a restaurant is bad for me? Thanks menshealth.com - Porch, on 04/08/2008, -0/+8Bury for stupid article and popups. Not worth reading.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+8no really stunning info in this article
- ronpaulblogscom, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8Now I am scared and slightly hungry.
Really the only way to watch what you eat is by cooking it yourself and trying to avoid bad things.
Even if the nutritional information was included, it would not be good news and you could not do much about it if you eat there. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7Forget wings, I'm more interested in the breasts and thighs myself.
- MortalynFlux, on 04/08/2008, -1/+8Sounds like the writers were given an assignment by the editor to write about the nutritional content of food at restaurants, and when they could not get any information by calling up the local Burger King, they googled some stuff and threw an article together just in time for happy hour. The webmasters then cut it up into pieces for more ad hits. My googling skills are far better.
http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp - dagamore, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6I for one am SHOCKED! SHOCKED! I say, food that tastes good and or is cooked in fat might not be the best thing health-wise to eat. Go figure.
- mousky, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5It's only unhealthy if you eat one every day or every week. Eating a one-pound burger occasionally is not going to kill you. Moderation.
- jsauter, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5At what point did the 'one page per questionable fact' thing become the norm? I would like the old internet back where you just had to load one page and not find the 'next' button to read the fricking article...
- oldhick, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Thats why I don't understand the push for nutritional information on restaurants... Common sense used to be enough. Oh wells.
- lnxfi, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Well, first off - there is a big 'duh' here. You get what you pay for and low grade fatty meats are dirt cheap. This is not exactly a shocker . However, I cannot believe that they get away with claiming ignorance on how things are prepared. Sure some things are hand made, but you can at least provide information for the meal when cooked according to the 'corporate recipe'. Ignorance is bliss I guess.
- Icupnimpn2, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4Summary of article:
Hooters - Doesn't want you to know what's in their food
Applebees - Doesn't want you to know what's in their food
Burger King - Doesn't want you to know what's in their food
Outback Steakhouse - Doesn't want you to know what's in their food
etc. etc. etc. - drmangrum, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4This is lame. So Applesbees low-fat menu has high calories and carbs? It's not a low-cal menu, it's not a low-carb menu, it's a LOW-FAT menu.
Anyone who expects to get a healthy meal out of chain is being naive. It doesn't take a genius to realize that beef, fried foods, and overly sweetened smoothies are bad for you. - hokie47, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4I just wish that the hooters girls will move that damn fanny pack to the side.
/Camel Toe Lover - Ibox, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4next thing they'll tell you beer is bad for you. Winny bastards
- TyTerrasso, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3this was on the front page a few months ago. wasn't good then, isn't good now
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Why the hell would the submitter link to page #5 of a 16-page article? Seriously, it's like linking to #1 in a Top 10 list.
- sagien, on 04/08/2008, -3/+6You know what Soylent Green is made of?
- matthewf01, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3"I'll have the chicken breast.... hold the chicken"
"...Is that what you really want?"
"No...I’m gonna have the gourmet hot dog." - Dunhamzzz, on 04/08/2008, -1/+4we already had this less than a month ago.
- greenamp, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Chain sit-down restaurants are not much better for you than fast food, and in some cases worse. People consume more calories and fat from a meal at Chilli's or Outback than they do at McDonalds.
Fast food chains have been demonized for the practice while chain sit-downs have gone unmentioned. I think that's the point the article is trying to make. - InferiorWang, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Common sense isn't as common as it used to be.
- CaptainDDL, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Notice that '7' on the end of the URL? =)
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3As a kid I always got a ton more exercise on snow days than on gym class days. Running up and down a snowy hill in 20 degree weather with a sled for 8 hours burns a lot of calories.
- PopcornDave, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Political nannyism plain and simple. Politicians think they know better how to run your life better than you do - no matter which side of the political isle they're on. Of course it's a case of do asI say, not do as I do.
- dinostabOMG, on 04/09/2008, -0/+2What's more: Xanthan gum is not a bad thing. It is just plant fibres.
- derek20cali, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2...says the fatass.
- meed, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Give me a f'ing break there are alot worse thing about some restraunts foods than their calaroie and fat content. Impropper food handling for example. Oh Gee this bacon burger isn't good for me? STFU. Restaraunts aren't going to change their menues just so that one person who cares more about the fat content than taste wants to eat there.
- dagamore, on 04/08/2008, -2/+4How DARE YOU imply that it might not be. Remember If it looks good, eat it!.
- o0joshua0o, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2I love Panera. I wish they were more widespread.
- zart, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2I don't like stuff that preys on ignorance for fear. The "scary" ingredients that are listed for Hooters aren't really scary at all. Even though they have scary names like maltodextrin and potassium sorbate, none of them are actually scary. Looking up those names on wikipedia will show you that they're all fine for you. You'd do a lot better to worry about the amount of butter in them then the amount of propylene glycol alginate. That's just a food thickener that's derived from kelp. OH NO.
- mnocket, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3Boring.
- derekivey, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Dupe. This was on the front page a few months ago...
- oldhick, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2I think the bigger question is how many care? I bet not many. If you're eating there already, then you probably just don't give a *****. Its obviously not about taste or health anymore, its convenience.
- Lasereth, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Panera Bread doesn't want you to know that a sandwich and soup for 2 with a drink is $30.
- psibladeZX, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Here's an idea... How about not eating at ***** restaurants?
- snohman, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Shame on you:
"By David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding. Additional research by Lauren Murrow "
They call them selfs writers??? No one is forcing anyone to eat that stuff! Everyone knows that the food is bad for them. I cant believe that they are trying to blame the governor and the chains and not the consumer...if that is the case they should blame the media (which they are apart of) for allowing them to advertise through those channels...people are fat because of a combination of overeating, lack of exercise, and/or the fat gene...its not just a diet, what u dont eat but diet as to what you eat... -
