- fitqueenb, on 05/21/2008, -2/+65This kids is out there doing what he loves, and he does it well. He has guts to get that kind of speed and not see where he is going if you ask me.
- LegalizeGanja, on 05/21/2008, -7/+4I've tried skating a miniramp with my eyes closed and to me that's not the most amazing thing. The hardest part I think is learning to skate in the first place and that's really what shows he's adventurous. To try dropping in without ever seeing the ramp before is unimaginable to me.
- chapter78, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6Bear in mind that this kid has never seen a miniramp in his life. He'll never have seen other skateboarders doing tricks so how did he learn?
- ElAssoWipo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5Balls of steel.
- LegalizeGanja, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2I am bearing it in mind. That's why I wrote it.
You: "...this kid has never seen a miniramp..."
Me: "...without ever seeing the ramp before..."
Not to be an ***** but RTFC

- aquireworth, on 05/21/2008, -1/+59Geeze, I suck at skating and I have perfect vision. Wish I had the guts this kid has!
- teriyakisause, on 05/21/2008, -1/+56Just tried to walk around the house with my eyes close and using echoes....
Didn't work.- saxmaster, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Ouch
- tymme, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I have the same condition as the kid in the video (and the prosthetic), except it only took one eye. (The other is ***** from radiation treatment spilling over, but it at least works.) You start to adapt, 'hearing walls' and other things close to you. If your other senses are not accustomed yet, though, you're not going to do well. He's had 13 years, I've had double that- not just 5 minutes.
- happyperson, on 05/21/2008, -1/+96I was like: "yeah bullsh1t, he aint blind he just said that to meet Tony Hawk"
Then he plucked his prosthetic eyes out of his skull. *****!- willr001, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3"Get his eyes Mike!!! He's nothing without his all-seeing eyes!"
- itsradBrad, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Effing Pei Mei style.
- directrix13, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Haha, crazy Elle.
- Ninjao, on 05/21/2008, -1/+23It's things like this that make me feel good and bad at the same time. Good because I'm happy for people that don't let their disabilities hinder them from what they enjoy doing and bad because I realize a blind dude skates better than me.
- DSPoh, on 05/21/2008, -1/+35This really puts a new respect on the things we take for granted everyday, doesn't it?
- badwithcomputer, on 05/21/2008, -0/+7Totally. I dusted off my Dreamcast just so I could play THPS2 after thats. Man did I miss Venice Beach...
- snowcrazy, on 05/21/2008, -1/+31How cool is this kid. Great attitude, amazing spirit and determination...wish there were more people like him and Hawk around.
- Dujara, on 05/21/2008, -1/+13How does he....what about when the board....and how does he know the tricks look....in the words of Keanu Reeves....WHOA.
- pentupentropy, on 05/21/2008, -4/+4I've been a blind skateboarder before. Alcohol bad
- McCharlie, on 05/21/2008, -2/+2That's outstanding, that means I should stop complaining. Dang it!
- optoomistic, on 05/21/2008, -2/+4i just tried to navigate to my kitchen using echolocation. surprise! i walked into the bookshelf
- willr001, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5wtf is a bookshelf doing in a kitchen...
- silvershadow21, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6I think that's the point, he didn't make it to the kitchen...
- directrix13, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3I read navigate my kitchen as well. But apparently he said navigate TO my kitchen.
- willr001, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5wtf is a bookshelf doing in a kitchen...
- Syugo, on 05/21/2008, -3/+22That kid just makes us look like *****.
- bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -6/+3You don't even know "us" so how can you say that? I might be a blind skateboarder with no legs.
- webbyman, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2Or more likely your an internet geek that goes on digg and plays WoW all day..
- bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3Actually I am a skateboarding guy with no arms or legs, blind and my brain is in a jar
- webbyman, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2Or more likely your an internet geek that goes on digg and plays WoW all day..
- bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -6/+3You don't even know "us" so how can you say that? I might be a blind skateboarder with no legs.
- azntzouie, on 05/21/2008, -1/+29Dugg for pulling his prosthetic eyes out.
- nymphetamine, on 05/21/2008, -2/+5So I guess I'm the only one who thought the interview would be "AMAZING"?
- ACitizenofCambe, on 05/21/2008, -10/+21im much better than him - he fell like 5 times
- ralphthemagi, on 05/21/2008, -3/+2Rip out your eyes, then count how many times you fall. Make sure to post it on YouTube.
- makkaveli19, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6haha, damn i feel bad for laughing at that.
- ckpcw, on 05/21/2008, -1/+16I read title to mean: Tony Hawk interviews teenage member of the Blind skateboard team. AMAZING!"
Didn't sound amazing, then I saw eye sockets. AMAZING! - kpmoore, on 05/21/2008, -2/+13I thought it was weird at first how the kid didn't seem to talk to Tony Hawk like a typical fan would. He didn't seem excited to talk to Hawk at all--he didn't even thank him at the end.
Then I thought that if I had never seen Tony Hawk skate, I wouldn't think he was that great either. Great video.- techlyc, on 05/21/2008, -2/+5He couldn't have played any of the video games either!
Retina cancer FTL. - azurechaos, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I did notice that too, though he did say "Thanks for coming out..." to Tony. What an awesome kid.
- techlyc, on 05/21/2008, -2/+5He couldn't have played any of the video games either!
- deweyhewson, on 05/21/2008, -17/+4I can't believe it! Tony Hawk interviewed a blind skateboarder! That's AMAZING!
- Mist0r_Wiggles, on 05/21/2008, -3/+2Wow...That was just inspiring.
Now I have to take up that offer from my friend to go sky diving with him. - bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -13/+1I know he is blind and everything but he is not very good. I was still expecting him to be better.
I think the youtube skateboarding dog is better- megahan, on 05/21/2008, -1/+7Damn! Spoken like a truly horrible future father!
- bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1I am a father
- flashback99, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4that was quick.
- bryanwebster, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1I am a father
- megahan, on 05/21/2008, -1/+7Damn! Spoken like a truly horrible future father!
- intox, on 05/21/2008, -2/+2sooo insane
- sat0shi, on 05/21/2008, -2/+15How about Og de Souza... The guy has no legs -- he skates only using his arms and he's damn good.
http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=aQ9iHMOa9Mc- subESC, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4*shakes change cup*
I have no legs. I have no legs. - altf4me, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Not only is he a great skater, but he's hard as nails, tough as teak!
- magicalhobo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1But he has tiny baby legs!
- subESC, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4*shakes change cup*
- jimmyt1988, on 05/21/2008, -1/+15As a skateboarder myself, i honestly have no idea how he does it. I take my hat off to him. He's such an inspiration for anyone with a disability. His message is kind of like "i'm disabled... so bring it ***** on".
Fantastic, thanks for the article. - WoWii, on 05/21/2008, -2/+16This will be on Diggnation.
- rileyhallwood, on 05/21/2008, -2/+2damn, this guy skates a mini better than i do, and i have my vision!
it looks hard to the average person, but its 10x what you would think with your eyes closed, i would never have the guts.
an inspiring guy. - fxu1989, on 05/21/2008, -3/+1I believe the eye is one of the most precious gifts humans have. And for those who become/are born blind, the ears are.
- itsradBrad, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2We can all learn something from this.
- urkel2762, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1reminds me of the nike 'no excuses' tv ad:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=myDYE49KPlQ - GregFD3S, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Wow, if this doesn't get you motivated to skate, I don't know what else would. I can see fine, and I am not nearly as good as this kid on a vert ramp.
- jamwil87, on 05/21/2008, -1/+711. A fist bump is completely appropriate here.
- johndajap56, on 05/21/2008, -2/+8Wonder if he'll get sponsored by BLIND
god im going to hell - xXdredgXx, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1If you love what you're doing don't let anyone/anything stop you from doing it
- alibanana, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2Awesome. I skated for 5 years and wasn't as good as this guy on miniramp. Inspirational stuff.
- dkitch, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3Okay, that's just ***** cool
- Dyabolik, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Wow, that kid rips. he's better than me in a half pipe that's for sure.
- Shawkab, on 05/21/2008, -1/+0Good stuff
- Pahtcub, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2So since he uses walls can he skate outdoor parks?
- Tubilakken, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1he's talking about the walls on the quaterpipe, so yeah.. plus I have seen a photo of him in The Skateboard Mag. issue: January 2008 page 38-39..l. ( I wish I had a scanner ) where He skates in an outdoor skatepark
- duke1981, on 05/21/2008, -1/+4True inspiration
- Zippo, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2Man, skating with your eyes open is dangerous enough... this kid has serious balls and serious skills.
- schmitey, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3Mad props to Tony and the skating world in general to accept this kid and encourage him like that! It says a lot for the sport and people involved IMO...
- orblivion, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0What, do you think Tony might have considered rejecting and discouraging a blind kid?
- zionKing, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1I really don't see how this kid skates so well...
- Oddish, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1Less talking, more skating, please.
- F0RMLESSNESS, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1I have pictures of this... this was at my friend Patrick's indoor skate park co-op. He sent me pictures after it happened, which was months ago, slow to digg I guess. That blind kid is truly an inspiration.
- Jeoha86, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1seems like a very chill and down to earth kid, kudos to him for doing what he loves
- blacklilyninja, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1whats cooler is.... he's not bothering to wait for our praises. he's just learning new tricks.
- HouseofEl, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1Totally awesome. The kid is like Daredevil! Really makes you understand how perseverance and determination can allow you to do anything you put your mind to.
- SamyK, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1I am not gonna lie, when I first read this description I thought they were talking about Blind, the skateboard company. Truly amazing though.
- carguy25, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1 Nice.
- danbedford, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1Amazing! I love this kind of stuff. You can never take for granted the things you have when you see someone triumph over a handicap like this. Personally, I've always thought losing my sight would be the worst of the senses to lose, and this makes me believe it won't be as bad as I assume it would be.
- fatloui, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1"When I fall it doesn't even hurt anymore." I know exactly what he means, when I used to skate pain was just another feeling like hot or cold, since I stopped I feel like I've become more and more of a wuss, I miss the days when I was impervious to pain.
