- jamwil87, on 05/16/2009, -0/+77That was pretty anti-climatic
- kpwells, on 05/16/2009, -0/+35weak graphic. how about some real pictures of classic to modern skateboards, and some less than retarded descriptions of how they've changed over time...this is ***** stupid.
- gamerbambi, on 05/15/2009, -0/+17My first skateboard had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles graphic and big piece of rubber so it wont get scratched.
- uzusan, on 05/15/2009, -3/+14They missed one at the end: http://kotaku.com/5255409/new-tony-hawk-game-has-a ...
- Bic823, on 05/16/2009, -5/+14Needs more longboards!
- pleeker, on 05/15/2009, -0/+9I'm pretty certain that I was one of the first kids in town with the kicktail in the 70s.
- paulwind, on 05/16/2009, -3/+10The infographic no one asked for.
- algaeturd, on 05/16/2009, -0/+7They left out a MAJOR development between the 80s and the 90s shapes...the Mike Vallely barnyard deck was the first board that had a double tail, extending the nose that eventually morphed into what you see as standard today.
I think New Deal did a siamese board early and Vision did a hacked version but those were just novelties until the World Industries barnyard board when it wasn't just a gimmick.
The double tail was functional enough to push skating into a new direction with switch, nollies and a ***** of other tricks that wouldn't be an option today if that shape hadn't come along.
It's a shame that Mike V. turned out to be a greasy hockey-playing wrestler southern rock dude instead of just focusing on skating. - kdmkdmkdm, on 05/16/2009, -1/+7Evolution? The skateboard was created in six days!
- sageerrant, on 05/16/2009, -0/+5The weather remained very neutral.
- darrellcskinner, on 05/16/2009, -0/+4Twas amazing being involved in mid-90's skateboarding. Sure other eras before ours were 'classic', but my time frame saw some amazing bars being set.
- Maxmaxxwell, on 05/16/2009, -1/+4THIS GRAPHIC WAS HELLA GNARLY BRO!!!
- thebeginning, on 05/16/2009, -2/+5No, this one does. Sick of seeing this everywhere.
- immatellyouwhat, on 05/16/2009, -0/+3that's what she said.
- Rhenthalin2, on 05/16/2009, -4/+7The Longboard has pushed truck, deck and wheel design beyond anything designed to ride in a park. Go look up downhill longboarding on youtube or slalom racing. You'll see where the evolution continued. check this.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-V67gMD-tg&fea ...
There is a whole world of skate that this graphic ignores - marx2k, on 05/16/2009, -0/+3So do sites generate more hits now by just throwing "INFOGRAPHIC" somewhere in there?
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2The kid who practices outside my house still cant do the trick he had been trying since i moved here 12 years ago.
- GodsTwin, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2Thank god
- superspaldo707, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2honestly I don't know why you're getting dug down they need to have some drop through and drop deck longboards in there.
- morepowerr, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2Don't remember all my boards. But do remember the one I like the most. My very last board was a blank carbon fiber deck, indy trucks with steel washers and rubber spacers for bushings.German bearings, no brand 48 mm wheels and bridge bolts.
- danesis, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2Looks like it all started with Marty McFLy
- thebeginning, on 05/16/2009, -0/+2It changed a bit more than that from the 90's to now. Boards are a bit slimmer now (alot of the boards in the earlier 90's were still pretty wide), and those tiny wheels aren't getting as much attention as they were.
The important part: skateboarding is still awesome. - fraggle35, on 05/16/2009, -1/+3is Skateboarded some kind of sex act?
- kolobcreek, on 05/16/2009, -1/+3I don't skate but there's a lot of technical stuff you're missing.
- vinblackham, on 05/15/2009, -0/+2And don't forget the kicktails from the 80's (my era) when they were all neon! Rad!!
- fonebone, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1I felt old when I realised mine was an 80's model :)
- castletech, on 05/16/2009, -1/+2That was a waste of 30 seconds.
- Rhenthalin2, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1amen I ride a DH race myself its a tricky bitch thats for sure
- jonnyfatman, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1No, it's a torture method used to extract information. Think waterboarding.
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1hah. I had that same skateboard. The board was indestructible. But the metal trucks (axles), not quite... broke one of those doing an ollie.
- samsonofjohn, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1I would say that skateboards have changed since the early 90's increased concave, and the wider noses. Also some companies have boards where the nose and tail are the same now.
- sh1tman, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1^^ Here's some.
- chrisbradley87, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1So, when do we get BTTF-style hoverboards?!
- TheHardDisk, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1The other kids wouldn't let me skateboard cause I was the fat kid, and they were afraid if I fell off one I'd cause an earthquake.
- inactive, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1I had an SMA Natas... first board at the local skate shop that had a double kick, that I remember. But the front kick wasn't like it is on boards today... it still had that rounded shape. A year later and most of my friends had boards with the square front kick, and the boards became more symmetric from front to rear. This was probably '91 or '92.
I do remember seeing that barnyard deck. Pretty awesome looking. But I liked my kitty and the odd airplane. - immatellyouwhat, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1hmm almost 20 years and since it last changed.
- jankind, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1Dugg for referring to the movie as BTTF.
- GalacticRerun, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1I had a skateboard handed down from my brother and it had a very narrow board and rubber wheels. It was far too fast but none of the other kids had rubber wheels. I used to ride it sitting down on my hill and I'd always scrape my knuckles while holding on.
- Fmunkey, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Hell yeah, Im getting my drop deck tomorrow, its a landyachtz switch, can't wait to see what the local skaters say to that, lol. Probably just "that sucks", just like when they told me that my helmet made me go slower.
- jankind, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1I logged in to make the same point. I had a couple of those Mike V barnyard decks. I considered that the point at which boards really changed and took the new direction towards what they are now. I had a bunch of his elephant ones too before that came out.
- iceman0113, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1Agreed. The ever constant change of longboards never ceases to amaze me. Just got Arbor's Rise Up pocket rocket a few days ago.
- graemee, on 05/16/2009, -0/+1Found my old board while looking for something in the garage. It's a 70's vintage wooden one. Use to have a graphic on it labeled "OFF THE WALL" but when MJ put out his album I removed it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI - darrellcskinner, on 05/16/2009, -2/+2how embarrassing. So rather than compete with skate, they throw the guitar hero gimmick at it. *sigh* it's going to blow, but it'll sell, because single moms will think their child will be getting exercise.
- doublsh0t, on 05/16/2009, -3/+3lies--everyone knows Marty Mcfly invented the modern skateboard :p
- thelastspot, on 05/16/2009, -1/+1I completely agree! I ride hybrid Downhill Board with a Carbon Fiber deck and drop-though trucks (The board "hangs" off the wheels instead of sitting on top). This allows for a lower center of gravity and means that your feet are closer to the road for easier kicking and foot-breaking.
In fact, one of the biggest D.H.Longoboard races (and Slide comp) in all of Canada takes place this weekend on the Sunshine Coast of BC. Check out a huge stash of pics from last years event here: http://lightninja.com/may_16_18_dangerbay7/index.h ...
Also, so see where D.H. Longboarding kind of emerged from, do a Google search for Cliff Coleman, inventor of the Coleman slide. - havok420, on 05/16/2009, -0/+0weak.. for a more detailed and further history check this out..
