- gmanolatos, on 01/09/2009, -1/+11Wow, thanks for digging up my feature. Just wanted to point out that this was written before the Dec. 27 PPV and there's a small case to be made to add the Griffin-Evans match.
- elamenop, on 01/09/2009, -1/+11Kimbo slice ***** sucks
- Kvasaari, on 01/08/2009, -5/+12Dugg for MMA. I think #7 (Silva vs Henderson) should've been #1.
- EvilCan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+7That was not in UFC.
- y2kery, on 01/09/2009, -2/+8All great fights...love MMA. Can't wait for the Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn fight.
- GirlsCallMeMatt, on 01/09/2009, -2/+8love ufc, hate lists that span more than one or two pages...
good list though haha - EvilCan, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5"Your a retard." Nice.
Just cause a guy did fake wrestling doesn't mean he isn't a real athlete. - doiveo, on 01/08/2009, -4/+8wow - did you even try or was that just next on your list of inane things to say? It's a slide show *****
- anaclagon, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Do you mean the former EliteXC?
- cfannin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Did you even watch Silva vs. Henderson?
Silva won via submission (Rear Naked Choke). - robtheghost, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell?
- JigoroKano, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Guys who did fake wrestling and _became_ MMA legends: Ken Shamrock, Kazushi Sakuraba, Josh Barnett, ...
- theblueprint, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3Pound-for-pound, Silva is the best MMA fighter.
The competition is much, much better at Middleweight than Heavyweight. Silva has dominated every fight in the UFC, to the point where he's gone up a weight class, and whipped those opponents too.
I'm not saying Fedor isn't amazing (he is), but the average MMA heavyweight isn't nearly as skilled as those at lighter weights. - rabidvibes, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2love ufc...
- esaks, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2never mind im retarded, i didn't see 2008.
- lastelement0, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3the list wasn't too bad. but still surprised that there was no mention of any of the fights from dec 27. some of them were disappointing, but evans fight against griffin as well as rampage's return fight against silva were very respectable. especially considering what happened to rampage following his lost earlier in the year.
also the TUF Finale fights were also very good to not have any of them mentioned. hell the junie browning vs dave kaplan fight should get a nod for the performance and for dave's awesome entrance.
also, should be noted the anthony johnson vs kevin burns fight was their second fight since their first matchup had a less then acceptable finish. - tflowholdings, on 01/09/2009, -6/+8#1 best mma fighter in the world anderson silva??? please....
YA'LL MUSTA FORGOT.. about Fedor - lastelement0, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2my fault. was thinking of his fight against james irvin. he just caught his leg and came with a brutal knockout punch.
- rsbryswrrl, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Again, not UFC. But Fedor v. Arlovski is the one fight I'm really looking forward to.
- YouRookies, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2You saying MMA died with Kimbo means you know nothing about the sport. Real MMA fans wanted him out of the sport to begin with.
- jasonstahl, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I was at that fight live. Brock certainly dominated Herring, but it wasn't one of the 10 best of the year.
- randman89, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2nope
- flamesoftheend, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Hazelett is straight up exciting to watch!
- moduc, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1I fear GSP would knock the heck out of BJ Penn. BJ Penn has skill with submission and mixing things up. However, he doesn't have power and clumsy with finishing off a fight (takes along long long time to finish a guy). GSP doesn't give him that luxury. GSP is an all around guy. Strong, skillful, flexible, quick in thinking, and know how to finish.
However, I have a personality that usually roots for the underdog. Probably that's what worth to watch. If not, then it's so lopsided, that the judge just give the other guy a win. So, I hope BJ Penn find his rhythm and strength to beat GSP, that would be worth a watch. - esaks, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Hazelett vs Burkman was better. Standing jumping over the head armbar ftw!
- akawraith, on 01/09/2009, -10/+11Fedor Emelianenko > All
- cfannin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Happened in 07.
- esaks, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Eddie Alvarez had some amazing fights in japan. His fight with Kawajiri was by far the best fight of 2008 hands down.
- IpwnZnoobs, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1no way
- inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1GSP vs Fitch should be #1. It was an absolute war.
- cfannin, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3Just goes to show how the average casual fan thinks the sport is called "Ultimate Fighting".
- anaclagon, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1You say you played Real Sports but were you professional in any of the sports? Because Brock was a professional wrestler. Also forgive me if I'm mistaken but haven't there been some professional athletes in the past who have crossed from one professional sport to another?
- rsbryswrrl, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1One of my faves was Amir Sadollah beating CB Dolloway twice with back-to-back submissions, but he's from my hometown (RVA) so I might be biased.
- suzaku, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1I haven't seen all those fights but that Torres vs. Maeda WEC fight was spectacular and would definitely make my top 10. Those two both have some heart and are really willing to put all out there.
- YouRookies, on 01/09/2009, -2/+3Wow, why is cfannin getting dugg down? If you UFC fans are really MMA fans you would also watch other organizations instead of listening to Dana White's BS, "UFC has the best fighters". You guys are just band wagon fans.
- sathias, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Good list, I'm not convinced about number 1 though. Grugel is just frustrating with the way he won't use his BJJ skills. I would have had Maia vs McDonald somewhere on there as well.
- y2kery, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1@moduc I agree. I think GSP is the all around better fighter. But BJ has better BJJ skills. Should be a good fight.
- flamesoftheend, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Sean Sherk + Tyson Griffin was an AMAZING fight.
What about Dustin Hazelett Vs Tamdan McRory... Simply one of the coolest fights of 08.. May have been lower key but insane submission attempts and striking + dislocation of Tamdan's arm. Battle of the geeks. - cfannin, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1Agreed.
Hazelett is a great prospect. All of his fights have been exciting. His submissions are ridiculous. That flying armbar on Burkman was amazing. - cfannin, on 01/09/2009, -7/+8It's too bad this is UFC only. Some of the best bouts took place in other organizations.
Eddie Alvarez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Eddie Alvarez vs. Joachim Hansen
Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le
Miguel Torres vs. Yoshiro Maeda
Rob McCullough vs. Donald Cerrone
Just to name a few... - JigoroKano, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1In the last fight BJ handled GSP in boxing and GSP handled BJ in wrestling. Skill-wise that's how it's going to be again this time, but the question is if BJ will have the cardio to put up more of a fight in the later rounds.
- lastelement0, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2i wouldn't go that far, but definitely up there for top knockouts of 2008.
that was just crazy what he did to him. - rheaume, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2Oh my god, it would ruuuule if you said that to his face but because he sucks, nothing would happen
- doiveo, on 01/08/2009, -10/+11Respectable list of fights in fact. Glad to see none of Brok's on the list.
- craigob, on 01/09/2009, -1/+2It's so funny that the Kimbo defenders always mention that kimbo could kick my ass, or a random person who says he sucks, as if that somehow validates him as a MMA fighter. Anyone in the UFC, or in fact pretty much any professional MMA fighter could kick a random posters ass. The fact that you have to bring that up just to defend Kimbo is pathetic, and setting the bar pretty low for little ol' Mr. Kevin "Kimbo Slice-with-a-butter-knife" Ferguson.
With everyone else it's just a given. No one bothers saying "Don't hate on Randy Couture, he could kick your ass!". That's simply assumed and doesn't need mentioning. - machobullshit, on 01/10/2009, -0/+1Competition at Middleweight isn't that much better than Heavyweight. They're both suffering from the same syndrome, that the champion seperates himself so much farther than his competitors. If that's the definition of "Best P4P", BJ Penn would be the best because he's seperated himself miles farther than his competition at 155, and 155 is probably the toughest division to make it in. Everyone at 155 is much more well rounded than in any other division.
- GirlsCallMeMatt, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1BJ penn is gonna BJ piss on George St. Pierre...hard
- odxWallz, on 01/09/2009, -0/+1GSP vs Jon Fitch... If you read the description, they say that Jon Fitch "Took GSP to the limit" [by going all 5 rounds]. Are you kidding me? They make it sound like it was a close decision in the end. All 5 of those rounds, all Jon Fitch did was eat punches from GSP, and lose a LOT of blood in the process.
- CaptCourt, on 01/09/2009, -2/+2no chuck?
